PURPOSE: Although ipsilateral C7 nerve transfer is used for the treatment of C5-C6 brachial plexus injuries, accurately evaluating the functional quality of the donor nerve (ipsilateral C7 nerve root) is difficult, especially when the C7 nerve root is slightly injured. The purpose of this study was to determine the indicators to evaluate the quality of the ipsilateral C7 nerve and assess the clinical outcomes of this procedure. METHODS: This study employed the following three indicators to assess the quality of the ipsilateral C7 nerve: (1) the muscle strength and electrophysiological status of the latissimus dorsi, triceps brachii, and extensor digitorum communis; (2) the sensibility of the radial three digits, especially the index finger; and (3) the intraoperative appearance, feel and electrophysiological status of the ipsilateral C7 nerve root. Transfer of the ipsilateral C7 nerve root to the upper trunk was implemented only when the following three tests were conducted, the criteria were met, and the clinical outcomes were assessed in eight patients with C5-C6 brachial plexus injuries. RESULTS: Patients were followed-up for an average of 90 ± 42 months. At the final follow-up, all eight patients achieved recovery of elbow flexion, with five and three patients scoring M4 and M3, respectively, according to the Medical Research Council scoring. The shoulder abduction range of motor recovery averaged 86 ± 47° (range, 30°-170°), whereas the shoulder external rotation averaged 51 ± 26° (range, 15°-90°). CONCLUSION: Ipsilateral C7 nerve transfer is a reliable and effective option for the functional reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow after C5-C6 brachial plexus injuries when the three prerequisites are met.

BACKGROUND: Adjusting trunk inclination from a semi-recumbent position to a supine-flat position or vice versa in patients with respiratory failure significantly affects numerous aspects of respiratory physiology including respiratory mechanics, oxygenation, end-expiratory lung volume, and ventilatory efficiency. Despite these observed effects, the current clinical evidence regarding this positioning manoeuvre is limited. This study undertakes a scoping review of patients with respiratory failure undergoing mechanical ventilation to assess the effect of trunk inclination on physiological lung parameters. METHODS: The PubMed, Cochrane, and Scopus databases were systematically searched from 2003 to 2023. INTERVENTIONS: Changes in trunk inclination. MEASUREMENTS: Four domains were evaluated in this study: 1) respiratory mechanics, 2) ventilation distribution, 3) oxygenation, and 4) ventilatory efficiency. RESULTS: After searching the three databases and removing duplicates, 220 studies were screened. Of these, 37 were assessed in detail, and 13 were included in the final analysis, comprising 274 patients. All selected studies were experimental, and assessed respiratory mechanics, ventilation distribution, oxygenation, and ventilatory efficiency, primarily within 60 min post postural change. CONCLUSION: In patients with acute respiratory failure, transitioning from a supine to a semi-recumbent position leads to decreased respiratory system compliance and increased airway driving pressure. Additionally, C-ARDS patients experienced an improvement in ventilatory efficiency, which resulted in lower PaCO2 levels. Improvements in oxygenation were observed in a few patients and only in those who exhibited an increase in EELV upon moving to a semi-recumbent position. Therefore, the trunk inclination angle must be accurately reported in patients with respiratory failure under mechanical ventilation.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the level of agreement on various prevention and management strategies for irritation caused by topical retinoids in facial and trunk acne in an attempt to alleviate it and minimize treatment discontinuations as much as possible. METHOD: After reviewing the scientific medical literatura currently available, 4 different areas of uncertainty in the management of irritation caused by topical retinoids in acne were identified. A questionnaire with 34 recommendations was created and evaluated by a group of 133 dermatologists (Delphi methodology). RESULTS: In 82.3% of the recommendations (28 out of 34), some level of agreement was reached (≥ 85% agreement in 22 recommendations and ≥ 70% agreement in 6). The results with the highest level of agreement focused on specific patient education strategies (explaining that irritation is an expected reaction at the beginning of treatment and tends to decrease over time), gradual and/or spaced application of topical retinoids (at night time to prevent and/or reduce skin irritation), and the importance of using adjuvant products, specific for acne-prone skin, hydration, photoprotection, and skin cleansing. These recommendations reflect a comprehensive approach to managing irritation associated with topical retinoids and promoting long-term adherence. CONCLUSIONS: Skin irritation caused by topical retinoids in facial and trunk acne is an expected, mild, and controllable reaction if proper prevention and management guidelines are followed, meaning that it should not be a reason for treatment discontinuation.

RESUMO

Various anatomical variations are known to occur in branches of the aorta. Some of these variations are common while others are quite uncommon. However, these variations carry significant implications when the patient is diseased and some intervention or surgical procedure is to be done. Most of these variations are usually incidentally detected. This imaging case series illustrates some clinically important variations of aortic branches including branches of the aortic arch and abdominal aorta, with a review of the literature. All cases illustrated here were detected incidentally.

Subclavian and thyrocervical trunk pseudoaneurysms are rare pathologies and even more so when they occur simultaneously. Treatment of these vascular injuries can be done endovascularly or with open surgery. We present a novel two-stage, hybrid open and endovascular approach to the management of a healthy 41-year-old man with no personal or family history of connective tissue disorders, who presented with subclavian branch and thyrocervical trunk pseudoaneurysms complicated by brachial artery occlusion. The pseudoaneurysms were treated with microvascular plug deployment, followed by subclavian artery covered stenting, with treatment of the brachial occlusion via open thrombectomy with patch angioplasty. The patient recovered without any complications.

Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS, also known as celiac artery compression syndrome, celiac axis syndrome, celiac trunk compression syndrome, Dunbar syndrome, or Harjola-Marable syndrome) is a rare condition characterized by abdominal pain attributed to the compression of the celiac artery and celiac ganglia by the median arcuate ligament. Pain can occur post-prandially and may be accompanied by weight loss, nausea, or vomiting. Following angiographic diagnosis, current definitive treatment may include open or laparoscopic decompression surgery with celiac ganglion removal (if affected), which has been found to provide relief. In this case report, we outline a young female patient with a MALS diagnosis and subsequent surgery, but whose pain recurred in various stress-related instances even after surgical intervention. After a particular pain episode, osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) was applied, with a focus on restoring autonomic balance through the use of various gentle osteopathic treatment techniques. A significant reduction in pain was reported post-treatment, followed by complete pain resolution, indicating a great benefit to the incorporation of OMT into the treatment plan of MALS patients in future osteopathic practice.

Background: Epidemiologic findings suggest that measures of body fat distribution predict health outcomes independent of the overall body fat assessed by body mass index (BMI). This study aimed to evaluate the associations of overall and regional body fat with the severity of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in type 2 diabetic patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Methods: Bioelectric impedance analysis and two newly developed anthropometric indices, namely, A Body Shape Index (ABSI) and Body Roundness Index (BRI), were used to estimate the body fat. Based on fibroscan parameters, significant hepatic fibrosis and severe steatosis were defined as ≥F2 and >66%, respectively. Results: Higher total body fat (odds ratio [OR] 1.107, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.038-1.182, p = 0.002), trunk fat (OR 1.136, 95% CI 1.034-1.248, p = 0.008) and leg fat (OR 1.381, 95% CI 1.139-1.674, p = 0.001) were associated with liver fibrosis. However, in contrast to the total body fat (OR 1.088, 95% CI 1.017-1.164, p = 0.014) and leg fat (OR 1.317, 95% CI 1.066-1.628, p = 0.011), the trunk fat was not associated with severe hepatic steatosis. BRI performed better than trunk, leg and total body fat in predicting hepatic steatosis (OR 2.186, 95% CI 1.370-3.487, p = 0.001) and fibrosis (OR 2.132, 95% CI 1.419-3.204, p < 0.001). Moreover, the trunk to leg fat ratio and ABSI were not independent predictors of either steatosis or fibrosis (p > 0.05). Conclusion: BRI revealed a superior predictive ability for identifying the degree of hepatic steatosis and stiffness than other obesity indices. Additionally, higher levels of adiposity in the trunk, legs, and overall body were linked to an increased risk of developing liver fibrosis. Although trunk fat did not show an association with severe hepatic steatosis, an increase in leg and total fat was related to liver steatosis.

Twisted trunks are not uncommon in trees, but their effects on tree growth are still unclear. Among coniferous tree species, the phenomenon of trunk distortion is more prominent in Pinus yunnanensis. To expand the germplasm of genetic resources, we selected families with excellent phenotypic traits to provide material for advanced generation breeding. The progeny test containing 93 superior families (3240 trees) was used as the research material. Phenotypic measurements and estimated genetic parameters (family heritability, realistic gain and genetic gain) were performed at 9, 15, and 18 years of age, respectively. The genetic evaluation yielded the following results (1) The intra-family variance component of plant height (PH) was greater than that of the inter-family, while the inter-family variance components of other traits (diameter at breast height (DBH), crown diameter (CD), height under branches (HUB), degree of stem-straightness (DS)) were greater than that of the intra-family, indicating that there was abundant variation among families and potential for selection. (2) At half rotation period (18 years old), there was a significant correlation among the traits. The proportion of trees with twisted trunks (level 1-3 straightness) reached 48%. The DS significantly affected growth traits, among which PH and DBH were the most affected. The volume loss rate caused by twisted trunk was 18.06-56.75%, implying that trunk distortion could not be completely eliminated after an artificial selection. (3) The influence of tree shape, crown width, and trunk on volume increased, and the early-late correlation between PH, DBH and volume was extremely significant. The range of phenotypic coefficient of variation, genetic variation coefficient and family heritability of growth traits (PH, DBH, and volume) were 44.29-127.13%, 22.88-60.87%, and 0.79-0.83, respectively. (4) A total of 21 superior families were selected by the method of membership function combined with independent selection. Compared with the mid-term selection (18 years old), the accuracy of early selection (9 years old) reached 77.5%. The selected families' genetic gain and realistic gain range were 5.79-19.82% and 7.12-24.27%, respectively. This study can provide some useful reference for the breeding of coniferous species.

Hazelnut is among the most important nut crops in Chile, currently covering 46,000 ha. In 2023, the country exported 30,000-ton. In recent years the incidence of plants with internal discoloration, cankers and dieback has been increasing. In some cases, the trees died and had to be removed and, after a year, purple resupinate fruiting bodies were observed growing from the stumps. To determine the etiology of the symptoms and signs, wood samples (n=318) were collected since 2020, from 38 symptomatic orchards from Maule to La Araucanía Regions, primarily from the cvs. Tonda di Giffoni and Lewis. Wood sections 0.5 cm diameter were cut from the symptomatic tissues, disinfected using a sodium hypochlorite (10%) solution, and plated on a quarter-strength acidified potato dextrose agar (aPDA1/4). The plates were incubated and purified on PDA. Subsequently, isolates were identified by morphological and molecular means. Almost half of the isolates (47%) were preliminarily identified as basidiomycetes, based on mycelial features such as the presence of clamp connections, with 45% of them exhibiting abundant whitish cottony fast-growth mycelia, resembling Chondrostereum purpureum (Grinbergs et al., 2020). DNA was extracted and the 500-bp fragment, located between 5S and 18S ribosomal regions, was amplified using APN1 specific primers (Becker et al. 1999), identifying the isolates as C. purpureum. In addition, 5.8S gene of RGM1 (35°13'40.9"S 71°25'14.1"W), RGM2 (36°31'27.95"S 71°46'58.31"W), RGM3 (37°10'54.8"S 72°03'39.6"W), RGM4 (35°19'25.2"S 71°19'54.7"W) and RGM5 (36°35'30.8"S 72°05'18.8"W) isolates, representing different locations within the hazelnut growing area, was amplified using ITS1/ITS4 primers (White et al., 1990). The PCR product was sequenced, and the analysis showed 100% homology among isolates (Genebank codes: PP839283, PP839284, PP839285, PP839286 and PP839287, respectively). To determine the pathogenicity of the isolates, 30-cm healthy cuttings cv. Lewis were inoculated with mycelial plugs, while control shoots were inoculated with sterile agar plugs. Cuttings were vertically arranged in pots with 3-cm water and incubated for 60-d at 22°C. In addition, fresh cuts of 3-y potted plants cv. Lewis were inoculated with mycelial plugs and incubated for 137-d in a shadehouse. After incubation, bark was removed from inoculated cuttings and the length of necrotic lesions was measured. Although discoloration was reproduced by all the isolates in both pathogenicity tests, RGM1 isolate was the most aggressive, causing the complete discoloration of the cuttings and the death of the inoculated plants. To our knowledge this is the first report of C. purpureum causing wood disease in hazelnut. These findings are significant because the disease may not only reduce orchard longevity but also decrease fruit yield and quality, as observed in other fruit crops (Grinbergs et al., 2021).

Background Brachial plexus birth injury results in deficits in strength and motion, occasionally requiring surgery to restore power to the deficient external rotators of the shoulder in these patients. This is a retrospective analysis of the long-term results of an isolated latissimus dorsi transfer to the rotator cuff in patients with brachial plexus birth injury. Methods This is a retrospective review of prospectively collected data for patients undergoing isolated latissimus dorsi transfer into the infraspinatus in addition to release of the internal rotation contracture of the shoulder with greater than 5 years' follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative shoulder elevation and external rotation were documented. Failure of surgery was defined as a return of the internal rotation contracture and a clinically apparent clarion sign. Results A total of 22 patients satisfied the inclusion criteria: 9 global palsies and 13 upper trunk palsies. The average follow-up was 11 years, ranging from 7.5 to 15.9 years. There was a trend for improved external rotation in the global palsy cohort at final follow-up ( p = 0.084). All nine global palsies maintained adequate external rotation without a clarion sign. Five of the 13 upper trunk palsies failed the latissimus dorsi transfer and subsequently required either teres major transfer and/or rotational osteotomy. In these five failures, the period from initial transfer to failure averaged 6.6 years, ranging from 3.4 to 9.5 years. Conclusion The results of this study indicate that patients with global palsy have sustained long-term improved outcomes with isolated latissimus dorsi transfer while patients with upper trunk palsy have a high rate of failure. Based on these results, we recommend isolated latissimus dorsi transfer for global palsy patients who have isolated infraspinatus weakness. Level of Evidence: Case series - Level IV.

Introduction: Acute limb ischaemia resulting from foreign body embolisation is an infrequent yet critical complication associated with vascular closure devices (VCDs). Despite the widespread use of VCDs, rare complications such as fragment emboli pose unique challenges, necessitating heightened clinical awareness. This case report presents a case of acute limb ischaemia caused by a VCD malfunction following an endovascular procedure. Report: A 70 year old male who was diagnosed with a severe claudication of the lower extremity (Rutherford III) due to right common iliac stenosis, underwent angioplasty using a FemoSeal (Terumo Ltd., Surrey, UK) to close the right femoral artery access. Two weeks later, the patient presented with acute lower limb ischaemia due to a right popliteal-tibial occlusion. Emergency surgical thrombo-embolectomy was successfully performed from a medial popliteal approach, and the thrombus, which contained a polymer disc from the VCD at its distal end, was completely removed. Discussion: Despite VCDs being proven safe and efficient, rare complications such as fragment emboli can occur, and physicians should be aware of the possible delayed onset of symptoms. Moreover, the radiolucent nature of the polymer disc in a FemoSeal complicates diagnostic imaging. While endovascular approaches exist, open surgery is a safe and effective strategy for retrieving fragments and treating the patient in acute limb ischaemia cases. Conclusion: Physicians should remain vigilant for embolic risks associated with vascular closure devices, even with suitable anatomy and following guidelines, especially considering the trend toward early ambulation and discharge.

BACKGROUND: The surgical treatment strategy for aortic arch pathology with a shaggy aorta must be determined on a case-by-case basis because of the risk of catastrophic complications, such as brain infarction and spinal cord injury. CASE PRESENTATION: This report describes the surgical case of two saccular aneurysms of the arch and abdominal aorta associated with a shaggy aorta in a 63-year-old man who underwent total arch replacement and secondary thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Considering the risk of embolization during endovascular therapy, graft replacement for the abdominal aortic aneurysm was initially performed. On postoperative day 28, total arch replacement with the conventional elephant trunk was performed using the functional brain isolation technique, which involves manipulating places far from the atherosclerotic burden, such as arterial inflow for cardiopulmonary bypass and unclamping of neck vessels. On postoperative day 7 after total arch replacement, thoracic endovascular aortic repair was performed across the conventional elephant trunk in the nondiseased descending aorta. No postoperative complications, such as cerebrovascular failure, paraplegia, or embolization to abdominal viscera or lower extremities, occurred. The patient remained asymptomatic. CONCLUSIONS: The present case suggests that total arch replacement with the conventional elephant trunk and secondary thoracic endovascular aortic repair may be an effective alternative for aortic arch pathology with a shaggy aorta. The strategy for surgical treatment in patients with aortic arch pathologies with a shaggy aorta must be judged on a case-by-case basis, considering patient characteristics, comorbidities, and preoperative evaluation using transesophageal echocardiography and computed tomography angiography, to eliminate potential determinants of intraoperative stroke.

BACKGROUND: Generalized joint hypermobility (GJH) is prevalent among young adults, necessitating effective monitoring of musculoskeletal health, particularly among college-aged females. This study aimed to identify physical fitness and health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) characteristics associated with GJH. METHODS: A total of 67 participants were assessed: 26 with GJH (mean age 20.06, SD 1.2 years), and 41 without (mean age 20.15, SD 2.2 years). Assessments included hypermobility, anthropometric data, foot posture, balance, flexibility, strength, and HR-QoL. We used the Mann-Whitney test for two independent samples, categorical variables were analyzed with Cramer's V test. The results indicated that participants with GJH exhibited inferior balance and back muscle static strength endurance but greater flexibility compared to those without GJH. Significant differences were observed in foot posture. However, handgrip strength, explosive strength, and abdominal muscle static strength endurance did not differ significantly between groups. No significant differences were observed in HR-QoL components between the two groups. In conclusion, there appears to be a link between GJH and increased flexibility, impaired balance, reduced back muscle static strength endurance, and altered posture of both feet.

This chapter discusses the role of cardiac neural crest cells in the formation of the septum that divides the cardiac arterial pole into separate systemic and pulmonary arteries. Further, cardiac neural crest cells directly support the normal development and patterning of derivatives of the caudal pharyngeal arches, including the great arteries, thymus, thyroid, and parathyroids. Recently, cardiac neural crest cells have also been shown to indirectly influence the development of the secondary heart field, another derivative of the caudal pharynx, by modulating signaling in the pharynx. The contribution and function of the cardiac neural crest cells has been learned in avian models; most of the genes associated with cardiac neural crest function have been identified using mouse models. Together these studies show that the neural crest cells may not only critical for normal cardiovascular development but also may be involved secondarily because they represent a major component in the complex tissue interactions in the caudal pharynx and outflow tract. Cardiac neural crest cells span from the caudal pharynx into the outflow tract, and therefore may be susceptible to any perturbation in or by other cells in these regions. Thus, understanding congenital cardiac outflow malformations in human sequences of malformations resulting from genetic and/or environmental insults necessarily requires better understanding the role of cardiac neural crest cells in cardiac development.

BACKGROUND: Many children with cerebral palsy (CP) show impairments in trunk posture control, one crucial factor contributing to impairments in gait and arm manipulation. RESEARCH QUESTION: The goal of this study was to test the feasibility of the cable-driven hippotherapy system on improving trunk posture control and walking function in children with CP. METHOD: Ten children were recruited in this study with average age 6.4 ± 3.0 years old, and were randomly assigned to the robotic group and the conventional balance training group. A custom designed cable-driven robotic hippotherapy system was used to deliver controlled pelvis perturbations while children were sitting astride. Participants from both groups underwent intensive robotic hippotherapy training or conventional balance training, depending on their group assignment, for 6 weeks (3 time/week). Outcome measures were assessed pre and post 6 weeks of robotic or conventional balance training, and 8 weeks after the end of training (follow-up test). The primary outcome measure was trunk control, which was measured using the Trunk Control Measurement Scale (TCMS). In addition, the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM-66), self-selected overground walking speed, and 6-minute walking distance were also assessed. RESULTS: The change in TCMS score from baseline to the post intervention was significantly greater for the robotic group than that for the conventional group (i.e., 6 ± 3 vs. -1 ± 5, p = 0.048, Mann-Whitney test). GMFM scores, self-selected overground walking speed, and 6-minute walking distance showed no significant improvement after robotic hippotherapy and after conventional balance training (p > 0.05). SIGNIFICANCE: Results from this study indicated that it was feasible to improve trunk posture control in children with CP using a cable-driven robotic hippotherapy system. Knowledge obtained from this study may provide an insight for the development of new perturbation-based intervention approaches for improving trunk posture control in children with CP.

Trunk compensatory movements frequently manifest during robotic-assisted arm reaching exercises for upper limb rehabilitation following a stroke, potentially impeding functional recovery. These aberrant movements are prevalent among stroke survivors and can hinder their progress in rehabilitation, making it crucial to address this issue. This study evaluated the efficacy of visual feedback, facilitated by an RGB-D camera, in reducing trunk compensation. In total, 17 able-bodied individuals and 18 stroke survivors performed reaching tasks under unrestricted trunk conditions and visual feedback conditions. In the visual feedback modalities, the target position was synchronized with trunk movement at ratios where the target moved at the same speed, double, and triple the trunk's motion speed, providing real-time feedback to the participants. Notably, trunk compensatory movements were significantly diminished when the target moved at the same speed and double the trunk's motion speed. Furthermore, these conditions exhibited an increase in the task completion time and perceived exertion among stroke survivors. This outcome suggests that visual feedback effectively heightened the task difficulty, thereby discouraging unnecessary trunk motion. The findings underscore the pivotal role of customized visual feedback in correcting aberrant upper limb movements among stroke survivors, potentially contributing to the advancement of robotic-assisted rehabilitation strategies. These insights advocate for the integration of visual feedback into rehabilitation exercises, highlighting its potential to foster more effective recovery pathways for post-stroke individuals by minimizing undesired compensatory motions.

Multiple myeloma (MM) patients complain of pain and stiffness limiting motility. To determine if patients can benefit from vertebroplasty, we assessed muscle activation and co-activation before and after surgery. Five patients with MM and five healthy controls performed sitting-to-standing and lifting tasks. Patients performed the task before and one month after surgery. Surface electromyography (sEMG) was recorded bilaterally over the erector spinae longissimus and rectus abdominis superior muscles to evaluate the trunk muscle activation and co-activation and their mean, maximum, and full width at half maximum were evaluated. Statistical analyses were performed to compare MM patients before and after the surgery, MM and healthy controls and to investigate any correlations between the muscle's parameters and the severity of pain in patients. The results reveal increased activations and co-activations after vertebroplasty as well as in comparison with healthy controls suggesting how MM patients try to control the trunk before and after vertebroplasty surgery. The findings confirm the beneficial effects of vertebral consolidation on the pain experienced by the patient, despite an overall increase in trunk muscle activation and co-activation. Therefore, it is important to provide patients with rehabilitation treatment early after surgery to facilitate the CNS to correctly stabilize the spine without overloading it with excessive co-activations.

Celiac artery compression syndrome is not frequent in the pediatric population. The syndrome may entail long-standing abdominal pain, recurrent vomiting, bloating, weight loss, and an abdominal bruit, which in the case of our patient, was an incidental finding. Notably, patients may be asymptomatic.  Our patient is a 16-year-old male who presented with concerns about multiple, non-tender chest lymph nodes lasting for two weeks. He had also lost 80 lbs. over one year. On examination, however, an abdominal bruit was discovered, and a diagnostic workup was significant for celiac artery compression following a magnetic resonance angiography of the abdomen. Due to his significant weight loss and mediastinal lymphadenopathy, a chest computed tomography (CT) scan was done to rule out malignancy. The chest CT scan was reported as normal. Additionally, a renal duplex ultrasound was done to rule out renal artery stenosis, considering he had presented with elevated blood pressure; this was also unremarkable. Although this patient had a history of marijuana use, his assessment did not show marked dependence. Substance abuse and atherosclerotic vascular disease can be predisposing factors for celiac artery compression syndrome in older individuals. However, compression of the celiac trunk by the median arcuate ligament is a congenital anomaly more appreciated in younger age groups. The patient was referred to vascular surgery for possible median arcuate ligament release.

OBJECTIVE: The abdominal aorta is a continuation of the thoracic aorta and gives off coeliac trunk, superior mesenteric artery & inferior mesenteric artery. The focus of our study is to evaluate variations in origin level in coeliac trunk, Superior Mesenteric artery, Inferior Mesenteric artery, and Aortic bifurcation in the Indian population and compare with various demographics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was retrospective and the local ethics committee approval was taken before starting it. 300 patients who were of more than 18 years of age and required CECT studies were included in this. The vertebral origin level of the arteries from Abdominal Aorta and Aortic Bifurcation level was analyzed. RESULTS: The most common origin level of Coeliac trunk for both males and females was T12-L1 Disc level. The most common origin level of Superior Mesenteric Artery was L1 Upper level. The most common origin level of Inferior Mesenteric Artery was L3 Upper level. The most common origin level of Superior Mesenteric Artery was L5 Lower level. There was no statistical difference between the origin of any arteries in Males and Females in the Indian Population. CONCLUSION: As per our study in the Indian population and the published literature it is realized that there are significant variations in origins of Coeliac Trunk, Superior Mesenteric artery, Inferior Mesenteric artery and Abdominal Aorta bifurcation in different populations. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: This study elaborates on potential Anatomical Variations in Indian Population, particularly Mumbai City population. Also, our study compares it to different countries' data and their results in variations found in Abdominal Aorta branches.
