RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, a new form of health has emerged, namely philosophical health. This novel concept is part of the philosophical counseling movement and relies on the philosophical method called the SMILE-PH interview, which draws heavily from continental philosophy, including phenomenology. Reflecting on the link between health and philosophy brings us to an ancient healthcare tradition that actively relies on philosophy: Chinese healthcare and its founding wuxing, or five phases ontology. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to interpret philosophical health from the standpoint of wuxing ontology. METHODS: We used the multiple meanings of the five phases to interpret the six concepts of SMILE-PH interview method. Then, we monitored how applying the SMILE-PH involves a parent phase triggering for the counselee. Last, we focused our analysis on the triggered phase and conceptualized them into philosophical health. RESULTS: The SMILE-PH topics are located in a specific phase, namely the Metal phase (xin), which is described by the concepts of connection, existence, identity, meaning in one's life, and spirituality. The one-phase structure of SMILE-PH fosters the triggering of its parent phase: the predominant Metal phase character of the SMILE-PH interview will promote the appearance of Earth phase answers. Conceptualizing the Earth phase into philosophical health adds the following aspects to the latter: emotional stability, the feeling of plenitude, and sharing without a transactional mindset. CONCLUSION: We obtained a clear perspective of the place of SMILE-PH in wuxing ontology and added a new layer to philosophical health. The other phases of wuxing ontology remain to be tested and integrated into philosophical health.

RESUMO

Modern computer technology sheds light on new ways of innovating Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). One method that gets increasing attention is the quantitative research method, which makes use of data mining and artificial intelligence technology as well as the mathematical principles in the research on rationales, academic viewpoints of famous doctors of TCM, dialectical treatment by TCM, clinical technology of TCM, the patterns of TCM prescriptions, clinical curative effects of TCM and other aspects. This paper reviews the methods, means, progress and achievements of quantitative research on TCM. In the core database of the Web of Science, "Traditional Chinese Medicine", "Computational Science" and "Mathematical Computational Biology" are selected as the main retrieval fields, and the retrieval time interval from 1999 to 2019 is used to collect relevant literature. It is found that researchers from China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Zhejiang University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other institutes have opened up new methods of research on TCM since 2009, with quantitative methods and knowledge presentation models. The adopted tools mainly consist of text mining, knowledge discovery, technologies of the TCM database, data mining and drug discovery through TCM calculation, etc. In the future, research on quantitative models of TCM will focus on solving the heterogeneity and incompleteness of big data of TCM, establishing standardized treatment systems, and promoting the development of modernization and internationalization of TCM.

RESUMO

As the basic concept and terminology of the theory system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Wuxing has rich philosophical connotations. This research takes the term Wuxing as the object, based on the relevance translation theory to analyze the accuracy of the translation of the three authoritative versions of the dictionary, and finally proposes the reference for English translation of core terms of TCM.

RESUMO

Objective To observe the intervention effect of Wuxing-Jiangu exercise for different syndrome types of elderly patients with chronic low back pain. Methods A total of 199 patients who met the criteria of chronic low back pain (CLBP) were divided into a Wuxing-Jiangu exercise group (86 cases), a control group (85 cases) and a health education group (28 cases). On the basis of health education, theWuxing-Jiangu exercise group was given Wuxing-Jiangu exercise; the control group was treated with the warm type frequency therapeutic instrument; health education group was only given health education guide. The changes of the score of CLBP patients before and after treatment with different syndrome types were observed. Results After 3 months of treatment, the score of the kidney deficiency syndrome and spleen deficiency syndrome in the Wuxing-Jiangu exercise group, the control group and the health education group had significant differences (H were12.554, 8.014, respectively;all P<0.01); After 3 months of treatment, the score of kidney deficiency syndrome and spleen deficiency syndrome in the Wuxing-Jiangu exercise group reduced than before the treatment (Z were -5.975,-5.025, respectively)and 1 month after the treatment(Z were -5.976,-5.026, respectively) (all P<0.01).Conclusion Wuxing-Jiangu exercise can reduce the score of the kidney deficiency syndrome and spleen deficiency syndrome and improve clinical syndrome.

RESUMO

The open-closed question of TCM theoretical system, which based on the ancient ideology, was always the core question which the scholars pestered. In four aspects: "the concept of yin-yang and wuxing——TCM methodology cornerstone, the TCM theory construction methodology, macroscopic judgment randomness of the human body pathology mechanism, the difficult problem of TCM theory extension",this article had analyzed this question and tried to elaborate it. The authors considered that TCM standed in the closed-like theoretical system of yin-yang and wuxing, the objective idealism speculation was its essential characteristics. TCM developed from this and kept its step originally also.

RESUMO

Background and purpose:Wuxing soup is popular for it's anti-cancer effect in folk medicine and deserved to be further studied by modern scientific methods. This research aimed to explore its anti-cancer effect and to study the influence on the immunity of melanoma in mice. Methods :Inhibition of different ingredients and concentrations of Wuxing soup on the growth of the mouse melanoma B16 cells was detected by MTT in vitro.Animal experiment was performed to determine its anti-cancer effect in vivo.C57/BL6 mice were randomly divided into three groups after vaccination of B16 cell, and then given intragastrically with different soups for 25 days. All mice were killed on day 26 after inoculation. The weight of tumors were recorded. The anti-tumor immune function was measured by T lymphocyte transforming assay and NK killing assay. The different effect of different ingredients was also observed. Results :Our result showed that different ingredients soup exerted different inhibition on B16 cell growth and Wuxing soup was the strongest one of all and in dose-dependent manner in vitro. The animal experiment indicated that different ingredients soup has different inhibition on melanoma, the soup-treated mouse display improved T lymphocyte transforming assay and NK killing ability.Among the different soups,Wuxing soup showed the strongest anti-cancer effect and immune enhancement. Conclusions :Wuxing soup is an effective anti-cancer agent in melanoma mice and can enhance the immunity of the mice with melanoma.
