A Randomized Controlled Trial involving 158 Brazilian medical and nursing students assessed one of three conditions over an 8-week period: 1) a circuit training protocol (CTG); 2) a yoga protocol (YG); or 3) no intervention (CG). The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of circuit training and yoga protocols in reducing perceived mental stress and examining their effects on serum cortisol levels, as well as on traditional cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs), during an academic semester. Mental stress was measured using self-reported stress questionnaires. For the CTG, comparisons of pre- vs. post-intervention data indicated a reduction in self-reported stress levels on a Brazilian scale (p < 0.001) and an international scale (p < 0.05). Regarding CRFs, there was a reduction in waist circumference (WC) (p < 0.05), systolic blood pressure (SBP) (p < 0.05), and heart rate (HR) (p < 0.001). No changes were observed in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (p = 0.211) and serum cortisol (SC) (p = 0.423). In the YG, pre- vs. post-intervention data indicated a reduction in self-reported stress levels on the ISSL (p < 0.001), in both resistance and exhaustion stress levels on the PSS scale (p < 0.001), and in SC levels (p < 0.001), WC (p < 0.05), and SBP (p < 0.05); however, HR and DBP did not change (p = 0.168 and p = 0.07, respectively) in this group. No changes were noted in any measures in the CG. The intervention protocols demonstrated that both CTG and YG can positively impact mental or biochemical stress responses, as well as CRFs.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) is a prevalent yet often overlooked complication of diabetes mellitus (DM), impacting multiple organs and substantially elevating the risk of morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of yoga-based intervention (YBI) compared to the American Diabetes Association exercise regimen (ADA Ex. Regime) and standard care for treating autonomic neuropathy in type 2 DM. METHODS: This open-label exploratory clinical trial featured two parallel study arms: Group A (Intervention), which received YBI alongside standard care, and Group B, which adhered to the ADA Ex. Regime in conjunction with standard care. A total of 80 participants aged 35-60, diagnosed with type 2 DM and autonomic neuropathy, were equally allocated to both groups. Data collection included nerve conduction velocity (NCV) tests, autonomic function tests (AFTs), as well as evaluations of depression and quality of life. RESULTS: YBI demonstrated a drop in parasympathetic tone compared to the ADA Ex. Regime. Following a six-month intervention, the sympathetic activity indicator (SD2) exhibited a significantly lower value in the YBI group than in the ADA Ex. Regime group, indicating a positive effect (p < 0.05), while the ADA Ex. Regime showed more improvement in certain areas of NCV (e.g., left and right peroneal NCV, right and left peroneal F-latency), notable differences were observed in alkaline phosphatase levels, depression scores, and WHO-5 wellness, all reaching statistical significance at p < 0.05. CONCLUSIONS: The study findings observed that a 24-week YBI significantly reduced in symptoms of diabetic neuropathy and stress. Although the ADA Ex. Regime demonstrated greater improvement in specific aspects of NCV compared to YBI, YBI outperformed the ADA Ex. Regime in enhancing WHO-5 wellness and reducing depression symptoms.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a cluster of disorders of blood vessels and the heart. As a form of physical activity, yoga postures, and pranayama have been shown to be beneficial in various health conditions, i.e. hypertension, prediabetes, and diabetes among high-risk subjects. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of yoga and diet on the Framingham risk score (FRS) among high-risk cardiovascular subjects. Materials and Methods: The experimental interventional study was conducted at "RUHS College of Medical Sciences" and Associated Group of Hospitals", Jaipur among high-risk cardiovascular subjects. FRS was used as a measurement for the outcome of interest at baseline and six months of yoga diet intervention in the study and control groups. Results: Mean age of participants was 48.43 ± 6.4 years. Baseline values (mean ± SD) of FRS 24.59 ± 10.15 after six months of yogic lifestyle 15.1 ± 7.05. After six months of yogic lifestyle FRS scores and estimated 10-year cardiovascular risk were statistically significantly (P < 0.0001) decreased. Pearson correlation analysis results depict that FRS correlation. There was a strong positive correlation between the FRS score and total cholesterol (r = 0.787; P < 0.001) and a negative strong correlation between the FRS score and high-density lipoprotein was observed (r =-0.621; P < 0.002). Conclusion: The findings of this study conclude that six months of yoga and diet lifestyle intervention significantly decreased FRS among high-risk CVD subjects compared to the control group.

Meditation, yoga, guided imagery, and progressive relaxation are promoted as complementary approaches for health and wellbeing in the United States, but their uptake by different sociodemographic groups is unclear. This study assessed the prevalence and 20 year trends in the use of these practices in US adults between 2002-2022. We examined practice use and associations with sociodemographic and health factors in a population-weighted analysis of n = 134,959 participants across 5 cycles of the National Health Interview Survey. The overall use of meditation (18.3%, 60.53 million), yoga (16.8%, 55.78 million) and guided imagery/progressive relaxation (6.7%, 22.22 million) increased significantly from 2002 to 2022. Growth was consistent across most sociodemographic and health strata, however users of 'Other' race (comprising 54% Indigenous Americans, Odds Ratios; ORs = 1.28-1.70) and users with moderate (ORs = 1.19-1.29) psychological distress were overrepresented across all practices, and those with severe psychological distress were overrepresented in meditation (OR = 1.33) and guided imagery/progressive relaxation (OR = 1.42). Meditation use has accelerated over time for 65 + year olds (OR = 4.22), people not accessing mental health care (OR = 1.39), and less educated (OR = 4.02) groups, potentially reflecting unmet health needs. Health professionals should consider the extensive use of complementary practices in service and treatment planning and consider their risks and benefits.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study investigated the effects of deep abdominal breathing on cardiovascular parameters and symptoms in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) during head-up tilt-table (HUT) challenge. METHODS: Thirty POTS patients completed two consecutive rounds of 10-min HUT in a crossover design. One round was HUT without intervention, and one round combined the HUT with deep breathing at a rate of 6 breaths/min. Cardiovascular parameters, including mean blood pressure and maximum and mean heart rate (HR), were measured supine and standing. Symptoms were assessed using the Vanderbilt Orthostatic Symptom Score (VOSS). RESULTS: During the breathing technique, the mean HR increase was -7.35 bpm (95% confidence interval [CI] = -11.71 to -2.98), and the maximum HR increase was -6.27 bpm (95% CI = -11.85 to -0.68, p = 0.041), significantly lower compared to normal breathing. Additionally, improvements were observed in all absolute cardiovascular parameters during standing, with VOSS symptoms simultaneously and significantly decreasing by -5.38 (95% CI = -10.43 to -0.36). CONCLUSIONS: Slow deep abdominal breathing can act as a simple technique to reduce the standing HR increase upon HUT in patients with POTS. This suggests that modulation of the cardiopulmonary neurocircuits and the respiratory pump may reduce HR increase and symptoms in patients with POTS. The findings of this study highlight the use of a safe, zero-cost, and simple behavioral tool to suggest to POTS patients for symptom relief apart from standard treatment. The observed improvements in cardiovascular parameters and symptoms offer a promising therapeutic approach for patients in times of inadequate treatment options.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Pregnancy is associated with an increase in pelvic floor dysfunction. Yoga, an ancient Indian practice involving asanas (physical postures), pranayam (breathing patterns) and meditation, can help women to control their pelvic floor muscles. However, the literature to support yoga as a remedy for pelvic floor dysfunction is lacking. We hypothesized that yoga could be an important method in improving pelvic floor dysfunction in pregnancy. METHODS: In a randomised control study, 200 pregnant women matched for age, weight, parity and physical activity were randomised at the 13- to 20-week period of gestation into two groups: group I (n = 100, undergoing yoga therapy) and group II (n = 100, given usual antenatal care). A trained instructor provided two physical sessions, each lasting for 60 min and further online sessions for 5 days a week for 3 months. The Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) questionnaire was used to assess the primary outcome at recruitment, 32 weeks (antenatal), 1 week and 6 weeks post-partum in both groups. RESULTS: In the 200 women randomised and matched for age and parity, there were no complications seen throughout the pregnancy and none of the patients was lost to follow-up in either group. The proportion of women exhibiting a decline in PFDI-20 scores was greater in group 1 (24%) than in group 2 (8%). The mean difference of scores between recruitment and 6 weeks post-partum was statistically significant (p value = 0.0026). CONCLUSIONS: Yoga in pregnancy significantly improves pelvic floor dysfunction in an easy manner with no proven adverse effects.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of yoga on successful aging based on the selection, optimization, and compensation model in elderly women. DESIGN: Quasi-experimental study. SAMPLE: Seniors' meeting points and parks and clubs for the old age pensioners of the ministry of education, ministry of healthcare, and the oil corporation in Shiraz, Iran. 68 elderly women within the age range of 60-86 years were divided into a yoga and a control group. MEASUREMENTS: The subjects in both groups were asked to complete the selection, optimization, and compensation model questionnaire before and after the intervention. Successful aging was measured using the selection, optimization, and compensation questionnaire. INTERVENTION: The yoga training program was implemented in 1-h sessions twice a week for eight weeks. RESULTS: After eight weeks of yoga training, the results showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest successful aging total scores of the yoga group (P = .005). However, the difference between the yoga and control groups' posttest mean total scores was not significant (P = .601). CONCLUSION: Based on the results, it seems that yoga training can improve successful aging. Thus, yoga is recommended as an inexpensive and entertaining method.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) burdens the lives of those affected. MPN patients endure significant impacts on their physical, psychological, and social well-being. While pharmacological interventions offer some disease and symptom control, they often have unfavorable side effects. This review explores the potential of Integrative Oncology (IO) therapies in managing MPNs and their associated symptoms. RECENT FINDINGS: IO is dedicated to augmenting conventional treatments through integrating interventions targeting the mind, body, nutrition, supplements, and other supportive care therapies. Several small studies suggest the benefit of an IO approach in MPN patients. These benefits are postulated to be modulated through enhanced physical capacity, reduced disease-related inflammation, subconscious mind training, and gut microbiome modulation. By combining IO with evidence-based pharmacological treatments, the potential exists to enhance the quality of life and clinical outcomes for individuals with MPNs. Future research should prioritize well-powered studies, including diverse demographics and symptom profiles, with appropriate study duration, to draw definite conclusions regarding the observed effects.

This review explores the benefits of yoga during pregnancy and considers its implications for working pregnant women, focusing on safety, future directions, and limitations. The physical and psychological changes experienced during pregnancy can lead to increased stress and discomfort, impacting both maternal and fetal health, which may be further augmented by work stress during pregnancy. To address these challenges, various interventions such as yoga, relaxation techniques, and meditation have been proposed. Although there is evidence to support the benefits of yoga at both physical and psychological levels, there is a lack of proper strategies and guidelines for the implications of these interventions among working pregnant women. Incorporating yoga as a safe and cost-effective intervention for managing work-related distress during pregnancy can have significant benefits for both maternal and fetal health. However, careful consideration of safety guidelines, further research on working pregnant women, and exploring optimal implementation strategies are essential to fully harness the potential of yoga in this context. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current evidence for the benefits and safety of yoga during pregnancy, with a specific focus on working pregnant women. To ensure the scientific rigor of this review, we conducted a systematic search of the PubMed database for high-quality research studies published in peer-reviewed journals.

Stressful situations lead to change in or damage to the central nervous system, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and autonomic function. Techniques for reducing stress such as yoga and mindfulness meditation have been reported to improve emotional regulation and mindfulness skill, as well as stress response. Mindfulness skill relies on intense focus to quiet the mind and bring concentration to the present moment. The present study was a randomized control trial to investigate the effects of an 8-week training program (three 45-minute sessions/week, one session with an instructor and two sessions as home practice) in mindfulness meditation or in yoga on stress and related variables in healthy people. Forty-four healthy participants were randomly allocated to one of three groups: a mindfulness group (n = 16), a yoga group (n = 13), and a control group (n = 15). The yoga training significantly modified heart rate variability, contributing to decreased relative power of the low-frequency band; the relative power of the high-frequency band increased after training. The mindfulness meditation training significantly improved mindfulness skill and concentration performance. In the present study, yoga was associated with increased heart rate variability and mindfulness meditation was associated with an increase in mindfulness skill and concentration performance.

Non-clinical approaches such as meditation, yoga, and mindfulness are popular traditional therapeutical interventions adopted by many educational institutions to improve the physical and mental well-being of learners. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of yoga intervention in improving cardiopulmonary parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, pulmonary function tests and psychosomatic symptoms such as depression, anxiety and stress in medical and dental students. Using the PRISMA protocol, a search from databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Embase resulted in 304 relevant articles. After screening the title and abstracts, 47 papers were analyzed thoroughly and included in the qualitative analysis. 18 articles with homogenous statistical data on physiology and psychological parameters were included for meta-analysis. In comparison to the control group, the study showed a significant reduction of systolic blood pressure (SBP: 6.82 mmHg, z = -3.06, p = 0.002), diastolic blood pressure (DBP: 2.92 mmHg, z = -2.22, p = 0.03), and heart rate (HR: 2.55 beats/min, z = -2.77, p = 0.006). Additionally, data from 4 studies yielded a significant overall effect of a stress reduction of 0.77 on standardized assessments due to the yoga intervention (z = 5.29, p < 0.0001). Lastly, the results also showed a significant (z = -2.52, p = 0.01) reduction of 1.2 in standardized anxiety tests in intervention group compared to the control. The findings offer promising prospects for medical educators globally, encouraging them to consider reformation and policymaking in medical curricula to enhance academic success and improve the overall quality of life for medical students worldwide.

OBJECTIVE: Up to 80% of women of reproductive age are thought to experience premenstrual stress, which is characterised by physical, psychological, and behavioural changes. Yoga activity lowers harmful inflammatory secretions that provide comfort for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) sufferers. DATA SOURCES: The following worldwide databases were searched for this systematic review: Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane Library, PEDro, and Google Scholar from inception to August 2022. STUDY SELECTION: A PICOS framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Study Design) was used for searching. Population included those with premenstrual syndrome or premenstrual tension syndromes, intervention included yoga therapy, comparator was with control group, and outcome measures included blood pressure (SBP, DBP) and heart rate (HR). DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS: To evaluate the study, we employed the Methodological Index for Randomised Controlled Trials. Fixed effects meta-analysis and qualitative synthesis were conducted. A total of 14 studies out of 224 were included. The main outcome measures included in this review were SBP, DBP, HR, and Moos Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MMDQ). For the meta-analysis, 7 studies were considered. 3 studies contributed data of SBP (mean difference (MD) = -0.30; 95% CI: -2.29 to 1.69; heterogenicity (I2) = 96%; P = 0.00001) and DBP (MD = -0.25; 95% CI: -0.99 to 0.49; I2 = 79%; P = 0.009). HR results from 4 studies were included (MD = 0.08; 95% CI: -0.83 to 0.99; I2 = 89%; P = 0.00001). 3 studies contributed data of MMDQ (MD = 1.50; 95% CI: 0.91 to 2.10; I2 = 92%; P = 0.00001. CONCLUSION: Yoga can help people with both medical and psychological conditions including menstrual pain, irregular periods, stress, tension, and anxiety. It has been shown to lessen women's emotional, behavioural, and physical PMS symptoms, which has enhanced their quality of life. Les activités de yoga réduisent les sécrétions inflammatoires nocives et soulagent les symptômes du syndrome prémenstruel. SOURCE DES DONNéES: Pour cette revue systématique, des recherches ont été effectuées dans les bases de données mondiales Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane Library, PEDro et Google Scholar pour la période allant de leur création au mois d'août 2022. SéLECTION DES éTUDES: Une méthode PICOS (population, intervention, comparaison, résultat et conception de l'étude) a été utilisée pour la recherche. Les critères de jugement principaux de cette revue étaient les pressions artérielles systolique et diastolique, la fréquence cardiaque et le questionnaire de détresse menstruelle de Moos. Dans la méta-analyse, 7 études ont été prises en compte. A 27-year-old man with Allergic rhino sinusitis presented to our hospital in July 2020 with complaints of continuous sneezing, coughing while rising from bed for half an hour, and the same complaints repeated in the afternoon for half an hour, as well as a continuous dry cough for half an hour in the evening. He also had complaints of itching and skin rashes, particularly in his limbs. He underwent yoga (45 minutes, 5-6 days a week) including Jalaneti (a yogic cleansing technique, i.e. nasal irrigation with warm salt water for twice a week), hydrotherapy (enema using neem leaves paste mixed with water and steam bath on first day, followed by facial steam on alternate days) and Acupuncture (one session a week) for 8 months. Results showed a reduction in immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and symptom severity suggesting that integrated yoga, hydrotherapy, and acupuncture are effective in the management of chronic allergic rhinosinusitis. All treatments were well tolerated without adverse effects. Though the result is encouraging, further studies are required with a larger sample size.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a complex condition associated with a range of persistent symptoms including headaches, cognitive dysfunction, mental fatigue, insomnia, and mood disorders. Conventional treatments for TBI-related symptoms can be insufficient, leading to interest in complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) approaches. This comprehensive article examines the existing literature on CIM modalities, including mind-body interventions, acupuncture/acupressure, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, biofeedback, yoga, and tai chi in the context of managing secondary complications following TBI. The article highlights potential benefits and limitations of CIM modalities, while acknowledging the need for further research to better establish efficacy and safety in this specific population.

Background: Workplace stress is a serious problem globally. It represents a major threat to the UN's sustainability goal of good health and wellbeing (SDG 3). The purpose of this article is to explore how yoga may be a tool for increased wellbeing and stress management at work and in everyday life. Methods: To examine how yoga can facilitate employees' wellbeing and ability to cope with stress, we performed qualitative interviews with practitioners who did yoga regularly. We focused on how yoga was experienced by each of our interviewees and what practicing yoga meant to them. Our data material consists of 13 semi-structured lifeworld interviews. The sample consisted of 10 female and 3 male in the age range of 20-55 years old. The data were analyzed through a thematic analysis. Results: The themes identified in the thematic analysis include: (1) yoga as a tool for increased wellbeing, (2) yoga for coping with stress and dealing with challenges, (3) the role of breathing, and (4) contextual factors. While confirming other research findings, this article elaborates on aspects informants described as induced by yoga, like self-awareness, calmness, balance, mood-lifting, focus, presence, self-care, and mastery. The reported positive outcomes of yoga constituted increased wellbeing, and also facilitated the ability to cope with stress and experience less stress. Informants also emphasized that yogic breathing was a central factor in inducing wellbeing and feeling less stressed. They also expressed that contextual factors, such as time, teacher, and location, influenced how practicing yoga was experienced and made sense of. Conclusion: The study concludes that the interviewees experienced practicing yoga as positive, by reducing their occupational stress. Moreover, yoga increased their wellbeing, as well as their ability to cope with stress. These experienced changes were especially facilitated by yogic breathing, and influenced by contextual factors.

Purpose: Untreated stress, anxiety, and depression during the perinatal period can lead to adverse maternal and infant outcomes. Yoga, the practice of body-mind-spirit techniques has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Aims: The aim of the study was to examine the feasibility and limited efficacy of the 4-week practice of pregnancy tele-yoga module (PTYM) delivered and monitored through an online platform. Methodology: A multicentric, open-label, exploratory study was conducted in the antenatal clinics (ANCs) of three tertiary care hospitals in India. Pregnant women between 13 and 32 weeks of gestation were invited to participate. PTYM was taught by the trained research staff. A YouTube link demonstrating the PTYM developed by the researchers was shared with consenting participants. Using the Yoga Performance Assessment (YPA), research staff monitored the online performance of the PTYM. Pre- and postintervention, women were assessed using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Results: Preintervention, among 162 consented pregnant women, anxiety (62.34%) was the most common mental health condition, followed by stress (55.55%) and depression (45.67%). YPA at the end of week 1, week 2, week 3, and week 4 was 19.45, 21.35, 24.15, and 28.45, respectively. Postintervention anxiety, stress, and depression persisted in 19.78%, 11.44%, and 10.41% of women. Pregnant women with stress (DASS-21 ≥15; n = 90), anxiety (DASS-21 ≥8; n = 101), and depressive (DASS-21 ≥10; n = 74) symptoms after undergoing 4 weeks of PTYM reported significant reduction in the scores. Conclusion: The current study demonstrated the feasibility and limited efficacy of PTYM in ANCs of a tertiary care hospital in India.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a common spinal deformity that primarily affects adolescents during the key period of growth and development. While traditional treatment methods often involve bracing or surgery, Hatha yoga, a millennia-old practice rooted in Indian tradition, has emerged as a complementary option for AIS cases. This paper explores the potential benefits of Hatha yoga for adolescents with AIS. It also discusses the limitations of existing research, such as the lack of large-scale randomized controlled trials (RCTs), varying yoga protocols, and challenges in blinding participants and researchers. To address these limitations, I propose future research directions, including conducting large-scale RCTs, long-term follow-up studies, standardized yoga protocols, and assessing safety concerns. I also highlight the need for tailored interventions and comparative effectiveness studies to better understand the potential of Hatha yoga in the holistic treatment of AIS in adolescents.

Background: Traditional yoga texts describe "cross nostril breathing," with inhalation and exhalation through different nostrils. Previous research reported no clear differences in oxygen consumption during uninostril breathing (i.e., inhalation and exhalation through the same nostril), hence not supporting right and left uninostril breathing as activating or relaxing, respectively, with no research on oxygen consumed in "cross nostril breathing." Methods: Oxygen consumed during "cross nostril breathing" was measured in healthy participants (n = 47, males, 26.3 ± 6.4 years). Five sessions (viz., right nostril inspiration yoga breathing [RNIYB], left nostril inspiration yoga breathing [LNIYB], alternate nostril yoga breathing [ANYB], breath awareness (BAW), and quiet rest (QR) were conducted on separate days in random order. Sessions were 33 min in duration with pre, during, and post states. Results: Volume of oxygen consumed (VO2) and carbon dioxide eliminated (VCO2) increased during RNIYB (9.60% in VO2 and 23.52% in VCO2), LNIYB (9.42% in VO2 and 21.20% in VCO2) and ANYB (10.25% in VO2 and 22.72% in VCO2) with no significant change in BAW and QR. Diastolic blood pressure decreased during BAW and QR and after all five sessions (P < 0.05; in all cases). All comparisons were with the respective preceding state. Conclusion: During the three yoga breathing practices, the volume of oxygen consumed increased irrespective of the nostril breathed through, possibly associated with (i) conscious regulation of the breath; (ii) attention directed to the breath, and (iii) "respiration-locked cortical activation." Restriction of the study to males reduces the generalizability of the findings.

Background: Volitionally modifying respiration leads to changes in middle cerebral arterial (MCA) blood flow. The effect of changes in breath rate on MCA blood flow has not been reported. Aims and Objectives: To determine the effect of slow (bumblebee yoga breathing) and fast (high frequency yoga breathing) yoga breathing techniques on MCA blood flow and vagally mediated heart rate variability. Materials and Methods: Thirty participants (mean age ± standard deviation, 27.3 ± 4.2 years) were assessed on 2 separate days practicing either high frequency yoga breathing (HFYB, breath frequency 54.2/min) or slow frequency bumblebee yoga breathing (BBYB, breath frequency 3.8/min) in random order to determine the effects of changes in breath frequency on MCA hemodynamics. Assessments included transcranial Doppler sonography, vagally mediated heart rate variability (VmHRV), and respiration. Results: Both HFYB and BBYB (i) reduced MCA flow velocities, i.e., peak systolic, end diastolic, and mean flow velocities, and (ii) increased MCA pulsatility indices. There was an increase in VmHRV during BBYB based on increased power in high frequency (HF) and low frequency (LF). LF reflects VmHRV for slow breath frequencies. In BBYB the average breath rate was 3.8 breaths/min. In contrast, VmHRV decreased during HFYB (based on reduced HF power; repeated measures analysis of variance, P < 0.05, all cases). Conclusion: Hence, irrespective of the differences in breath frequency, both HFYB and BBYB appear to reduce MCA flow velocities and increase the resistance to blood flow bilaterally, although the VmHRV changed in opposite directions. MCA velocity and pulsatility changes are speculated to be associated with low global neural activity during yoga breathing.

Infertility, a widespread medical condition affecting numerous couples globally, persists as a challenge despite advances in assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), often burdened by financial, physical, and emotional strains. Complementary and alternative approaches, notably yoga, have garnered attention for potentially enhancing fertility outcomes. Studies reveal yoga's influence on factors contributing to infertility, including reduced oxidative stress (OS) and oxidative DNA damage (ODD). OS, linked to mutagenic base formation, higher malondialdehyde levels, abnormal methylation, and altered gene expression, can impair sperm genome integrity. Yoga's efficacy is evident in lowering OS, positively affecting signal transmission, gene expression, and physiological systems. Furthermore, yoga has a positive impact on addressing the dysregulation of apoptosis, resulting in improved processes such as spermatogenesis, sperm maturation, and motility, while also reducing DNA fragmentation. OS correlates with genome-wide hypomethylation, telomere shortening, and mitochondrial dysfunction, contributing to genome instability. Yoga and meditation significantly reduce OS and ODD, ensuring proper reactive oxygen levels and preserving physiological systems. The review explores potential mechanisms underlying yoga's positive impact on infertility, including enhanced blood flow, reduced inflammation, relaxation response, and modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Furthermore, a comprehensive review of the literature reveals substantial evidence supporting the positive effects of yoga on infertility factors. These include oxidative stress (OS), oxidative DNA damage (ODD), epigenetic changes, hormonal balance, ovarian function, menstrual irregularities, and stress reduction. In summary, yoga emerges as a promising adjunctive therapy for infertility, demonstrating the potential to mitigate key factors influencing reproductive success. Although preliminary evidence indicates the positive effects of yoga on infertility, further clinical research is imperative to define specific benefits, molecular mechanisms associated, optimal protocols, and long-term effects in infertility treatment plans.
