RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To compare X-ray signs in different gestational and body weight groups of patients with NEC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study, enrolling 52 preterm newborns with symptoms of NEC regardless of onset time, who underwent treatment at Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Municipal Non-commercial enterprise "City Children Hospital №2", Odesa. The patients were split into 3 clinical groups: very preterm newborns (VPN), moderately preterm newborns (MPN), and moderately preterm newborns with intrauterine growth restriction (MPN+IUGR). RESULTS: Results: In the VPN group NEC was diagnosed at stage II (58,82±12,30) % and III (41,18±12,30) % by Bell MJ, р>0,05. In the group MPN+IUGR, NEC stage II (33,33±14,21) % and stage III (66,66 ±14,21) %, р>0,05, were equally observed. In the MPN group, NEC was diagnosed at stage I (41,67±10,28) % and II (58,33±10,28) %, р>0,05, without prevalence of any. Also only localized forms were observed. In VPN, we observed localized forms in most cases, while diffuse forms were diagnosed in (11,76±8,05) % cases, р<0,05. In the MPN+IUGR group, we found diffuse form of the NEC in half of the cases - (50,00±15,08) %. In the VPN and MPN+IUGR groups, NEC developed at 13,23±0,39 and 14,33±1,19 days, respectively. However, in MPN without IUGR, NEC developed at 17,75±0,55 days, significantly later than in the MPN+IUGR group, р<0,05. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: We have described distinct features of NEC in MPN with IUGR. Compared to MPN without IUGR, NEC had more severe course and earlier manifestation in such neonates.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the association of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T polymorphism with birth body mass and risk of autism in Chinese Han population. Methods: A total 1,505 Chinese Han autism patients were recruited, using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th revised version (DSM-IV-R) diagnostic criteria for autism, and 1,308 sex-matched healthy controls were also enrolled for the study. All the participants' birth body masses were counted according to the medical records. The MTHFR C677T genotypes were detected using the polymerase chain reaction-restrict fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. The association between C677T polymorphism, birth body mass, and risk of autism were analyzed using the chi-square tests. Results: The present study found that the MTHFR 677T was significantly associated with risk of autism [P = 0.004, odds ratio (OR) = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.02-1.29). The autism children more frequently showed low birth body mass (<2.5 kg) than healthy control subjects (8.6 vs. 5.3%, P = 0.001, OR = 1.67, 95% CI = 1.24-2.26). The interactive effects between MTHFR 677T and low birth body mass (P = 0.0001, OR = 2.18, 95% CI = 1.44-3.32) were also significantly associated with risk of autism. Conclusions: The MTHFR C677T polymorphism and low birth body mass may be associated with risk of autism in Chinese Han population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the dairy product intake during pregnancy in Southwest China and to explore its relationship with neonatal birth body mass. METHODS: A prospective study was conducted to select healthy singleton pregnant women at 8-14 weeks of gestation in a maternal and fetal health care institution in Chengdu City. Dairy product consumption during the first, second, third trimester of pregnancy were collected by 24-hour dietary recalls at 8-14 weeks, 24-28 weeks and 32-36 weeks of pregnancy, respectively, and the total milk intake and milk consumption rate were calculated. According to the dietary guidelines for Chinese pregnant women (2016), the recommended amount of milk (300 g/d) was used as the standard to calculate the compliance rate. The respondents were divided into three groups: no dairy consumption group, insufficient dairy consumption group and suitable dairy consumption group. The gestational age at delivery and neonatal birth body mass were collected by the hospital information system. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between milk intake during pregnancy and neonatal birth body mass. RESULTS: A total of 962 pregnant women were included. The average milk intake in the first, second and third trimester of pregnancy were 125.0 (0, 236.1) g/d, 208.3 (0, 284.7) g/d and 250.0 (150.0, 416.7) g/d, respectively, with the compliance rates of 12.6%, 33.2% and 48.4%, respectively. The average neonatal birth body mass was (3 225.0±399.8) g. The incidence of small for gestational age (SGA) and large for gestational age (LGA) was 8.3% and 3.9%, respectively. Compared with no dairy consumption group in the second trimester of pregnancy, the risk of SGA was lower in suitable dairy consumption group (odds ratio (OR)=0.786, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.385-0.976). Compared with no dairy consumption group in the third trimester of pregnancy, the risk of SGA was lower in insufficient dairy consumption group and suitable dairy consumption group (OR=0.672, 95%CI: 0.477-0.821 and OR=0.497, 95%CI: 0.116-0.807, respectively). No association was observed between milk intake in the first trimester and neonatal birth body mass, and milk intake in the second and third trimester of pregnancy was not associated with the risk of LGA. CONCLUSION: Insufficient milk intake of pregnant women is a significant problem in southwest China and needs to be improved. Milk intake during pregnancy is associated with neonatal birth body mass, and increased milk intake in the second and third trimester of pregnancy may reduce the risk of SGA.

RESUMO

Objective To explore the association of MTHFR C677T polymorphism and birth body mass with the vulnerability of autism in Chinese Han population. Methods Totally 1 505 children with au-tism have been recruited, using the diagnosis and statistical manual,4th revised version ( DSM-IV-R) diag-nostic criteria for autism. And 1 308 healthy control subjects sex matched with the children with autism were enrolled for the study. All the participants were identified the birth body mass ( kg) according to the birth medical recording. All the subjects were examined the MTHFR C677T genotypes, using the polymerase chain reaction- restrict fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods. The frequencies of genotypes, alleles and birth body mass were compared between autism and healthy control groups using the chi-square and other tests. Results The MTHFR C677T (P=0. 004,OR=1. 18,95% CI=1. 02-1. 29),low birth body mass (<2. 5 kg) (P=0. 001,OR=1. 04,95%CI=1. 02-1. 06),and their interactive effects ( P=0. 0001,OR=2. 18,95%CI=1. 44-3. 32) were associated with the vulnerability of autism. Conclusions The MTHFR C677T polymorphism, low birth body mass and their interactive effects might be associated with susceptibility of autism in Chinese Han population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of eating frequency (EF) and gestational weight gain (GWG) with birth body mass of neonates. METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 578 healthy pregnant women from April to October 2015. Dietary intake and physical activity data per trimester were collected using a questionnaire. Data in relation to gestational body mass, gestational stage and birth body mass of neonates were obtained from clinical records. Multiple logistic regression models were established to test the impacts of EF and GWG on appropriate for gestational age (AGA). Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to determine the association between EF and birth body mass of neonates. RESULTS: A final sample of 503 eligible pregnant women (87.02%) was included in data analyses. Higher EF [odds ratio (OR)=2.03; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18-3.47] and snacks (OR=1.84; 95%CI: 1.08-3.15) in the first trimester were associated with increased risk of excessive GWG,after controlling for maternal age, education, average household income, physicalactivity, numbers of pregnancy, numbers of delivery, and dietary intake (protein, fat, carbohydrate). A meal frequency greater (OR=2.83; 95%CI: 1.07-4.58) or less (OR=1.92; 95%CI: 1.08-3.61) than three in the first trimester was also associated with increased risk of large or small for gestational age. Meal frequency in the first trimester was positively correlated with birth body mass of neonates (ß=236.17; P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Frequent eating and snacks in the first trimester are associated with increased risks of excessive GWG. Meal frequency in the first trimester is also positively correlated with birth body mass of neonates: three meals per day is a protective factor of AGA.

RESUMO

Objective To study the expression of the imprinted gene H19 and IGF-Ⅱ in newborn placenta, and to discuss its influence on the birth body mass of the neonate. Methods The fresh placental tissues from full-term newborn (without trimester of pregnancy complica-tion and placenta and funic abnormality) with normal, high and low birth body mass (12,10 and 8 samples respectively)were collected. The expression of imprinted gene H19 and IGF-Ⅱ mRNA in the placenta were estimated by reakime fluorescence quantitative PCR Results The ex-pression of H19 mRNA in the placenta was negative correlation to the birth body mass (r =-0.403,P = 0.027).The expression of of IGF-H mRNA was positive correlated to the birth body mass (r = 0.444,P = 0.014). The H19 mRNA expression level in the high birth weight neonates (0.21 0.31) was significantly lower than that in the low birth body mass neonates (1.51 2.04)(P= 0.013). But the expression level of IGF-Ⅱ mRNA in the high birth body mass neonates (2.67±3.41) was significantly higher than that in the low birth body mass neonates (0.39±0.33)(P =0.013). Conclusion The expression of H19 and IGF-Ⅱ mRNA was significantly different in the placenta of normal, high and low birth body mass newboms. These two genes may be related to the birth body mass, and there may be some realation-ship between these two genes.
