RESUMO

Despite the promising potential of Solanum plant glycoalkaloids in combating skin cancer, their clinical trials have been halted due to dose-dependent toxicity and poor water solubility. In this study, we present a rational approach to address these limitations and ensure colloidal stability of the nanoformulation over time by designing solid lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (SLPH). Leveraging the biocompatible and cationic properties of polyaspartamides, we employed a new polyaspartamide derivative (P1) as a raw material for this class of nanostructures. Subsequently, we prepared SLPH through a one-step process involving hot-melt emulsification followed by ultrasonication. The physicochemical properties of the SLPH were thoroughly characterized using dynamic light scattering (DLS), ζ-potential analysis, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The optimized formulation exhibited long-term stability over six months under low temperatures, maintaining a particle size around 200 nm, a polydispersity index (PdI) lower than 0.2, and a ζ-potential between +35-40 mV. Furthermore, we evaluated the cytotoxic effect of the SLPH against human cutaneous melanoma cells (SK-MEL-28) compared to human foreskin fibroblast cells (HFF-1). Encapsulation of glycoalkaloids into the nanoparticles (SLPH-GE) resulted in a two-fold greater selective cytotoxic profile for melanoma cells than glycoalkaloids-free (GE). The nanoparticles disrupted the stratum corneum barrier with a penetration depth of approximately 77 µm. These findings underscore the potential of the developed nanosystem as an effective glycoalkaloid carrier with suitable colloidal and biological properties for further studies in topical treatment strategies for cutaneous melanoma.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: For growth of methylotrophic yeast, glycerol is usually used as a carbon source. Glucose is used in some cases, but not widely consumed due to strong repressive effect on AOX1 promoter. However, glucose is still considered as a carbon source of choice since it has low production cost and guarantees growth rate comparable to glycerol. RESULTS: In flask cultivation of the recombinant yeast, Pichia pastoris GS115(pPIC9K-appA38M), while methanol induction point(OD600) and methanol concentration significantly affected the phytase expression, glucose addition in induction phase could enhance phytase expression. The optimal flask cultivation conditions illustrated by Response Surface Methodology were 10.37 OD600 induction point, 2.02 h before methanol feeding, 1.16% methanol concentration and 40.36µL glucose feeding amount(for 20 mL culture volume) in which the expressed phytase activity was 613.4 ± 10.2U/mL, the highest activity in flask cultivation. In bioreactor fermentation, the intermittent glucose feeding showed several advantageous results such as 68 h longer activity increment, 149.2% higher cell density and 200.1% higher activity compared to the sole methanol feeding method. These results implied that remaining glucose at induction point might exhibit a positive effect on the phytase expression. CONCLUSION: Glucose intermittent feeding could be exploited for economic phytase production and the other recombinant protein expression by P. pastoris GS115.

RESUMO

In this study, a CoO-Fe2O3/SiO2/TiO2 (CIST) nanocomposite was synthesized and utilized as an adsorbent to remove methylene blue (MB), malachite green (MG), and copper (Cu) from aqueous environments. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Input parameters included pH (3-10), contact time (10-30 min), adsorbent amount (0.01-0.03 g), and pollutant concentration (20-60 mg L-1). The effects of these parameters on the removal process efficiency were modeled and optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM) based on the Box-Behnken design (BBD). The RSM-BBD method demonstrated the capability to develop a second-degree polynomial model with high validity (R2 ˃ 0.99) for the removal process. The optimization results using the RSM-BBD method revealed a removal efficiency of 98.01%, 93.06%, and 88.26% for MB, MG, and Cu, respectively, under optimal conditions. These conditions were a pH of 6, contact time of 10 min, adsorbent amount of 0.025 g, and concentration of 20 mg L-1. The synthesized adsorbent was recovered through five consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles using hydrochloric acid. The results showed an approximately 12% reduction from the first to the seventh cycle. Also, MB, MG, and Cu removal from real water samples in optimal conditions was achieved in the range of 81.69-98.18%. This study demonstrates the potential use of CIST nanocomposite as an accessible and reusable option for removing MB, MG, and Cu pollutants from aquatic environments.

RESUMO

Pectin is widely used in several products in the industry. Conventionally, strong and harmful acids are used for its extraction. This study optimized the extraction of orange peel's pectin using citric acid, considering yield and degree of esterification (DE) as response variables. Proximal analyses were performed, and the samples were subjected to a Box-Behnken design on three central points, considering as variables the temperature, time, and pH. The results of proximate analyses of the orange peels revealed 11.76 % moisture content, 87.26 % volatiles, 0.09 % ash, 50.45 % soluble carbohydrates, 70.60 % total carbohydrates, 0.89 % fixed carbon, 5.35 % lipids, and 36.75 mg GAE/g of phenolic compounds. The resulting second-order polynomial model described the relation of the input and output variables related to each other. The best performance to obtain a higher yield (18.18 %) of high methoxyl pectin (DE 50 %) was set at 100 °C/30 min/pH 2.48. Pectin showed antioxidant properties by ABTS and DPPH assays and similar thermal properties to the commercial polymer. Its equivalent weight was 1219.51 mol/g, and the methoxyl and anhydrouronic acid were 2.23 and 67.10 %, respectively. Hence, pectin extraction with citric acid results in a high-quality polymer and could be used as a gelling agent, stabilizer, or texturizer in food products.

RESUMO

Wine lees, an important by-product of the wine industry, pose a major environmental problem due to the enormous quantities of solid-liquid waste that are discarded annually without defined applications. In this study, the optimization of a method based on a Box-Behnken design with surface response has been carried out to obtain extracts with high anthocyanin content and potent antioxidant activity. Six variables have been considered: %EtOH, temperature, amplitude, cycle, pH, and ratio. The developed method exhibited important repeatability properties and intermediate precision, with less than 5% CV being achieved. Furthermore, these novel methods were successfully applied to diverse wine lees samples sourced from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah varieties (Vitis vinifera), resulting in extracts enriched with significant anthocyanin content and noteworthy antioxidant activity. Additionally, this study evaluated the influence of grape variety, fermentation type (alcoholic or malolactic), and sample treatment on anthocyanin content and antioxidant activity, providing valuable insights for further research and application in various sectors. The potential applications of these high-quality extracts extend beyond the winemaking industry, holding promise for fields like medicine, pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals, thus promoting a circular economy and mitigating environmental contamination.

RESUMO

The main objective of this study was to optimize the extraction of dietary fiber (insoluble dietary fiber and soluble dietary fiber) and degree of esterification from yellow dragon fruit peels using ultrasound-assisted extraction. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate the potential application of this fiber as a fat replacement in alpaca-based sausages. The optimization process for extracting dietary fiber and degree of esterification involved considering various factors, including the liquid-to-solid ratio, pause time, and total ultrasound application time. A Box-Behnken design consisting of 15 treatments was employed to determine the optimal levels for ultrasound-assisted extraction. The optimized conditions were found to be a liquid-to-solid ratio = 30 mL/g, pause time = 1 s, and total ultrasound application time = 60 min, which resulted in the highest values of insoluble dietary fiber (61.3%), soluble dietary fiber (10.8%), and the lowest value of degree of esterification (39.7%). The predicted values were validated against experimental data and showed no significant differences (p > 0.05). Furthermore, a completely randomized design was utilized to assess the effect of dietary fiber on replacing fat content during the production of alpaca-based sausages. The findings revealed that up to 78% of the fat content could be successfully replaced by soluble dietary fiber obtained from yellow dragon fruit peels when compared to high-fat sausages. Additionally, experimental sausages using soluble dietary fiber showed similar (p > 0.05) quality characteristics, such as hardness (24.2 N), chewiness (11.8 N), springiness (0.900), cohesiveness (0.543), redness (a* = 17.4), and chroma values (20.0), as low-fat commercial sausages.

RESUMO

In this work production of l-threonine by Escherichia coli ATCC® 21277™ has been studied using a mixture of alternative low-cost substrates, which are recognized to be a major pollution problem. Whey was used as the primary carbon source, whereas Red Tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) viscera hydrolysates constituted the nitrogen source. A Box-Behnken Design was used for optimizing l-threonine and biomass production, using temperature and glucose, whey, and Red Tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) viscera hydrolysate contents as factors. Results indicate that biomass production is affected by the concentration of hydrolysate and temperature. On the other hand, l-threonine production is affected by concentration of whey, hydrolysate, and temperature. In this context, it was possible to maximize l-threonine production, but with a detriment on biomass production. The optimal conditions for biomass and l-threonine maximization (after 24 h) were identified and validated experimentally, resulting in biomass and l-threonine production of 0.767 g/L and 0.406 g/L, respectively. This work has shown the technical feasibility of using whey and Red Tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) viscera hydrolysates for the production of l-threonine by E. coli ATCC® 21277TM. Finally, the complications associated to the use of these low-cost complex substrates for the production of l-threonine by E. coli, suggest that more in detail studies (i.e. at the metabolic level) are required in order to propose strategies to increase the process productivity, before its scale up. This is a first step in our long-term goal of developing a production process for i) dealing with the pollution problems caused by those wastes, and ii) strengthen the milk and fish industries which are important poles of the Colombian economy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is a therapeutic agent used for the treatment of cholestatic hepatobiliary diseases in pediatric patients. It is a bile acid that presents high lipophilicity, and it belongs to Class II of the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS), which exhibits low water solubility and high intestinal permeability, which leads to poor oral absorption. The objective of this work was to design and optimize UDCA nanosuspensions by means of the precipitation-ultrasonication method to improve the solubility, dissolution, and oral bioavailability of UDCA. METHODS: A three-level, three-factor Box-Behnken design was used to optimize formulation variables and obtain uniform, small-particle-size UDCA nanosuspensions. The independent variables were: stabilizer percentage (X1), amplitude (X2), and sonication time (X3), and the dependent variable was the particle size (Y1). In the precipitation-ultrasonication method, UDCA was dissolved in acetone:PEG 400 (1:1 v/v) and quickly incorporated into the antisolvent (pre-cooled aqueous dispersion of HPMC E-15 0.3%), by means of intense sonication at 50 W for 5 min, controlling temperature through an ice water bath. The lyophilization efficacy was evaluated by means of a cryoprotective efficacy test, working with 10% maltose at -80 °C. The nanosuspensions were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The physicochemical stability was determined at 25 °C and 4 °C at 7, 14, 30, and 60 days, and the UDCA content was analyzed via HPLC-UV. An in vitro dissolution assay and an oral bioavailability study were performed in male Wistar rats. RESULTS: A significant impact was achieved in the optimized nanosuspension with 0.3% (stabilizer), 50 W (amplitude), and 5 min (sonication time), with a particle size of 352.4 nm, PDI of 0.11, and zeta potential of -4.30 mV. It presented adequate physicochemical stability throughout the study and the UDCA content was between 90% and 110%. In total, 86% of UDCA was dissolved in the in vitro dissolution test. The relative oral bioavailability was similar without significant statistical differences when comparing the lyophilized nanosuspension and the commercial tablet, the latter presenting a more erratic behavior. The pharmacokinetic parameters of the nanosuspension and the commercial tablet were Tmax (1.0 ± 0.9 h vs. 2.0 ± 0.8 h, respectively), Cmax (0.558 ± 0.118 vs. 0.366 ± 0.113 µM, respectively), ΔCmax (0.309 ± 0.099 vs. 0.232 ± 0.056, respectively), AUC (4.326 ± 0.471 vs. 2.188 ± 0.353 µg/mL.h, respectively, p < 0.02), and IAUC0-24h (2.261 ± 0.187 µg/mL.h vs. 1.924 ± 0.440 µg/mL.h, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The developed nanosuspension presents an appropriate dosage and administration for pediatric patients. On the other hand, it exhibits an adequate absorption and UDCA oral bioavailability.

RESUMO

Sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum) leaves are rich in bioactive compounds that present therapeutic benefits for human health. Ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) is frequently used to obtain phenolic compounds from plants/herbal sources. However, few works have developed multi-variable studies to find the optimal conditions to extract the maximum amount of compounds, especially when applied to UAE via a sonotrode. The purpose of this work was to perform a multi-variable study by employing a Box-Behnken design to collect the highest active compound content from Ocimum basilicum leaves. The efficacy of the design was endorsed by ANOVA. The studied parameters for UAE via a sonotrode were the ethanol/water ratio, amplitude, and time. The analyzed responses were the rosmarinic acid, the sum of phenolic acids, and the sum of phenolic compounds content. The optimal conditions were found to be 50% ethanol/water, 50% amplitude, and 5 min. Twenty bioactive compounds were identified by HPLC-ESI-TOF-MS when the extract was collected by applying the optimal conditions. Ocimum basilicum may be appreciated as a valuable source of important bioactive substances for pharmaceutical use.

RESUMO

Trub, a brewing by-product, can be used as alternative ingredient for foods nutritional enrichment after its bitter compounds extraction. Study presents the optimisation of bitter compounds extraction from trub by Box-Behnken design, and use of debittered trub (DT) as new ingredient to enrich pasta. Bitterness extraction process was evaluated at different pH levels, time and extraction steps, and physical-chemical properties of DT (obtained under optimal conditions) were evaluated. Pasta was enriched with DT (5%, 10% and 15%) and its physical-chemical and quality properties were evaluated. Protein structure and chemical composition of trub were altered after process, also modifying its technological properties. Pasta with 10% DT increased in 33.51% protein content. Interaction of DT and wheat proteins resulted in a more compact structure, and DT water absorption capacity provided pasta texture changes. DT use improved pasta nutritional and quality properties, enabling trub valorisation and its use as vegetable proteins alternative source.

RESUMO

The study's objective was to develop a co-fermentation process with appropriate fermentation parameters to produce a sour beer (similar to a Belgium sour beer) with an ethanol content of 6-8% (v/v) using a coculture of Saccharomyces pastorianus and Lactobacillus plantarum. Statistical optimization was conducted to determine fermentation conditions to produce a sour beer with ~ 3 mg/mL of lactic acid, similar to the traditional sour beer levels. Studies were conducted on the microbial dynamics and volatile compounds produced during this fermentation and aging process. GC-MS studies revealed the generation of novel bioactive compounds as well as the depletion of some volatile compounds during co-fermentation. The study detailed a 5-day co-fermentation process of S. pastorianus and L. plantarum and a 21-day aging process to prepare a sour beer with biochemical properties along the lines of traditional lambic beers. The interrelationship between the two microorganisms and the biochemical changes in the sour beer fermentation process was elucidated and the sensorial attributes have been described.

RESUMO

Matrix complexity of fruit juices and their low antimony level requires sensitive, cost-effective instruments, time-consuming and error-prone sample pretreatment methods. Therefore, a flow-batch procedure (HG-FBA-AFS) was developed for the fast and sensitive determination of total inorganic Sb in grape juice samples by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The sample pretreatment, pre-reduction and stibine formation steps run through the mixing chamber. The HCl and NaBH4 concentrations, and carrier gas flowrate were optimized through a Box-Behnken design. The detection limit (LOD) was 20 ng L-1, intra and inter-day precision ranged in 3.0 - 3.5 %, and low errors within (- 2.4 to 6.6 %) for samples containing 1.23 - 4.58 µg L-1 total Sb. Both HG-FBA-AFS and reference method agreed at 95% confidence level. An 87 h-1 sample throughput, and a 1.15 mL total waste per determination attest that HG-FBA-AFS is a fast, and ecofriendly tool for determining Sb in grape juices.

RESUMO

Nanotechnology has been widely applied to develop drug delivery systems to improve therapeutic performance. The effectiveness of these systems is intrinsically related to their physicochemical properties, so their biological responses are highly susceptible to factors such as the type and quantity of each material that is employed in their synthesis and to the method that is used to produce them. In this context, quality-oriented manufacturing of nanoparticles has been an important strategy to understand and to optimize the factors involved in their production. For this purpose, Design of Experiment (DoE) tools have been applied to obtain enough knowledge about the process and hence achieve high-quality products. This review aims to set up the bases to implement DoE as a strategy to improve the manufacture of nanocarriers and to discuss the main factors involved in the production of the most common nanocarriers employed in the pharmaceutical field.

RESUMO

The discovery of biopigments has received considerable attention from the industrial sector, mainly for potential applications as novel molecules with biological activity, in cosmetics or if aquaculture food supplements. The main objective of this study was to increase the production of carotenoid pigments in a naturally pigmented yeast by subjecting the yeast to various cellular stresses using design of experiments. The fungal strain Rhodotorula mucilaginosa AJB01 was isolated from a food sample collected in Barranquilla, Colombia, and one of the pigments produced was ß-carotene. This strain was subjected to various stress conditions, including osmotic stress using different salts, physical stress by ultraviolet (UV) light, and light stress using different photoperiods. The optimal growth conditions for carotenoid production were determined to be 1 min of UV light, 0.5 mg/L of magnesium sulfate, and an 18:6 h light/dark period, which resulted in a carotenoid yield of 118.3 µg of carotenoid per gram of yeast.

RESUMO

Sugarcane straw (SCS) was pretreated with dilute sulfuric acid assisted by microwave to magnify fermentable sugars and to minimize the concentration of inhibitors in the hydrolysates. The optimum conditions for maximum recovery of sugars were 162 °C and 0.6% (w/v) H2SO4. The low level of inhibitors, such as acetate (2.9 g/L) and total phenolics (1.4 g/L), in the SCS slurry from the pretreatment stage allowed the enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation steps to occur without detoxification. Besides consuming the total sugar content (31.0 g/L), Clostridium beijerinckii Br21 was able to use acetate from the SCS hydrolysate, to give butyric acid at high conversion factor (0.49 g of butyric acid /g of sugar). The optimized pretreatment conditions spared acid, time, and the detoxification stage, making bio-butyric acid production from SCS extremely attractive.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Quinoa grain has a bitter tasting layer in the pericarp called saponin, a triterpenoid glycoside with industrial potential. Traditionally, quinoa saponins are extracted with a large amount of water, which is why ultrasound technology constitutes an emerging technological alternative which is considered efficient and profitable compared to traditional extraction methods. The objective of this research was to determine the amplitude, time, and concentration of ethanol that guarantee a higher content of saponin through extraction assisted by ultrasound. METHODS: To find the optimal extraction conditions, the response surface methodology was used using the Box Behnken design with 5 central points, taking as a response the content of saponins (expressed in oleanolic acid as it is the most abundant sapogenin). RESULTS: According to the results obtained, the R2 values were in agreement with the adjusted R2, showing that the data fit the model well. The results showed that ethanol concentration has a significant effect (p < 0.05) on the saponin content in the extract. Optimization showed that the optimal extraction conditions were 70% ethanol, 59% amplitude and an exposure time of 12 min. These values were obtained experimentally to compare theoretical values and found residual error percentages less than 3%. The emulsifying activity was evaluated, reporting a value of 52,495 units of emulsion activity per milliliter (UAE/mL), and the foaming stability indicated that 87.54% of the initial foam was maintained after 5 min, indicating high stability. CONCLUSIONS: The parameters of ethanol concentration, amplitude and time were optimized in the extraction of saponins, assisted by ultrasound. Furthermore, the extract obtained had good foaming and emulsifying characteristics, suggesting its suitability for use in industry.

RESUMO

Anodic oxidation of recalcitrant organic compounds is still challenging concerning to the anode material and mass transport limitations imposed by the low concentration. In this work, we studied the degradation of a real wastewater containing glyphosate using an electrode of PbO2 electrodeposited on a three-dimensional matrix of reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC). The high mass transfer rate provided by the RVC/PbO2 anode is demonstrated. A Box-Behnken factorial design was used for a systematic analysis of the effects of current density, flow rate and temperature on the degradation and mineralisation kinetics, current efficiency and specific energy consumption. The optimised degradation performance was achieved applying 30 mA cm-2, 3000 mL min-1 and 50°C. As the flow rate increases from 150 to 1500 mL min-1, the current efficiency increases from 18% to 65% and the energy consumption dropped from 72 to 33 kWh kg-1 due to the mass transfer enhancement promoted by the porous matrix. The efficacy of the electrochemical process for the treatment of real effluents using the three-dimensional PbO2 has been demonstrated.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Red beet plants are cultivated worldwide for the consumption of their roots, generating large amounts of unexploited by-products. In particular, beet leaves (BLs) represent about 50% of the whole plant and are usually discarded as waste. This constitutes not only an economic issue, since multiple resources invested in the production will be wasted, but also an environmental problem because of the pollution associated with their disposal. However, BLs comprise an important source of functional compounds (polyphenols and betalains) that could be recovered from the raw material, representing a sustainable solution for the underutilization of this by-product. This study proposes the recovery of polyphenols and betalains using an aqueous ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) process at different powers (35, 50, and 100 W) that was characterized and optimized. RESULTS: UAE significantly enhanced the recovery of bioactive compounds and shortened the time required for extraction in comparison with traditional macerations (35 < 50 < 100 W). During UAE, the temperature of the systems increased as a function of the power applied, favouring the recovery of these phytochemicals. Additionally, a Box-Behnken design and response surface methodology were employed to optimize UAE conditions (90 W ultrasound power, 1:20 solid:liquid ratio, 16 min extraction time), under which the yields were 14.9 mg g-1 (polyphenols), 949.1 µg g-1 (betaxanthins), and 562.2 µg g-1 (betacyanins), consistent with the values predicted by the models. CONCLUSION: This study enabled the development of a green-solvent UAE process that constitutes an effective post-harvest by-products strategy to minimize losses and increase biomass utilization through the recovery of bioactive compounds from BLs, promoting sustainability in the agri-food chain. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

In the present work, gold nanoparticles were synthesized through a green route by using, for the first time, polysaccharides extracted from pineapple gum (PG) as the reducing and capping agent. The obtained nanoparticles (AuNPs-PG) were characterized by UV-VIS, FTIR, TEM, FESEM, EDX, XRD, and zeta potential measurements, which confirmed that PG was effective to produce AuNPs with an average diameter of 10.3 ± 1.6 nm. The AuNPs-PG were employed as the modifier of glassy carbon paste electrodes (CPE/AuNPs-PG), which were applied as sensitive electrochemical sensors to the determination of the antihistamine drug promethazine hydrochloride (PMZ). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements showed that the AuNPs-PG could enhance the electronic transfer properties of the glassy carbon paste, which was due to their large surface area and high electrical conductivity. After optimization of the instrumental parameters of square wave voltammetry (SWV) through a Box-Behnken factorial design, a linear relationship between the anodic peak current and PMZ concentration was obtained in the range from 2.0 to 15.7 µmol L-1 in McIlvaine buffer solution pH 5.0. The detection and quantification limits were found to be equal to 1.33 and 4.44 µmol L-1, respectively. The developed sensors could successfully quantify PMZ in different commercial pharmaceutical formulations, with satisfactory levels of accuracy and precision. In addition to improving the analytical features of the electrodes, hemocompatibility assays carried out on erythrocytes and leukocytes showed that the AuNPs-PG do not exhibit toxic effects on the referred cells. This interesting behavior enables their use in biocompatible electrochemical sensing platforms as well as for future biomedical investigations.

RESUMO

Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) are aqueous dispersions of nanoparticles formed by solid and liquid lipids. In this study, NLC containing an organic UV filter, bemotrizinol, were developed for sunscreen formulation using carnauba wax and caprylic/capric triglycerides through ultrasonication technique. A Box-Behnken design was used to evaluate the influence of three variables on the particle size with the purpose of choosing the best system for further characterization. The particle size decreased as the surfactant concentration increased, reaching an average size of 122.4 ± 0.3 nm at 30 days of storage. Scanning electron microscopy showed intact and spherical particles. Thermal analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy suggest that bemotrizinol was incorporated into the NLC. The X-ray diffraction showed a reduction in the crystallinity of the NLC. In vitro analysis indicated an improvement in the photoprotective activity of bemotrizinol when incorporated into NLC. These findings suggest a promising, stable, and biocompatible system.
