Buscando investigar as consequências psíquicas da diferença anatômica entre os sexos, podemos admitir a existência de traços dessas consequências na obra O deslumbramento, de Marguerite Duras, especialmente no que diz respeito aos dois personagens principais, Hold, do lado do masculino, e Lol, do feminino. Tomaremos, como gozo fálico, aquilo que Hold tem a dizer sobre Lol e seu impulso constante por dizê-la", causando o que denominaremos deslumbramento, o qual constitui o sintoma masculino. Pois, para não ter de lidar com sua própria falta, o homem se ocupa da falta na mulher, de lhe oferecer semblantes. Se deslumbra por essa falta fálica e causa deslumbramento à mulher com os semblantes que oferece. A parceria sintomática entre um homem e uma mulher pela via do deslumbramento, ou, ainda, pela lógica fálica, entrega, portanto, ao portador do falo a responsabilidade de oferecer semblantes, ditos e discursos à sua parceira faltosa na partilha sexual. O termo "devastação" estaria presente para além da lógica fálica, quando o deslumbramento fracassa e evidencia os danos da permanência da mulher em uma posição de objeto sustentada por tais semblantes e ditos

A autora propõe uma articulação entre a histeria e a devastação nas relações mãe-filha como obstáculo ao acesso da filha à feminilidade. O fio condutorda elaboração é a feminilidade como imagem (semblant), validada pelo olhar e o desejo masculino e a figura mítica da mulher (no caso, a mãe) que deslumbraria este olhar e este desejo, deixando a filha destituída de sua própria imagem de mulher. Como paradigma, o texto coloca em relevo a protagonista do romance O deslumbramento de Lol V. Stein, de Marguerite Duras, e também a noção de devastação introduzida por Lacan em 1972. (AU)

Desde Freud o feminino é objeto de instigante pesquisa teórica e clínica, propondo a existência de um estágio pré-edipiano nas mulheres, caracterizado por uma relação singular entre a menina e sua mãe. A devastação do sujeito feminino, segundo Lacan, está relacionada ao enigma estabelecido pelo gozo feminino da mãe; o outro gozo ao qual somente os seres femininos teriam acesso, que define a ligação entre o feminino e a devastação que aparecerá na relação mãe e filha e nas parcerias amorosas.
