RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) stands as a prominent global platform for professional mixed martial arts, captivating audiences worldwide. With its continuous growth and globalization efforts, UFC events have garnered significant attention and achieved commendable results. However, as the scale of development expands, the operational demands on UFC events intensify. At its core, UFC thrives on the exceptional performances of its athletes, which serve as the primary allure for audiences. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to enhance the allure of UFC matches and cultivate exceptional athletes by predicting athlete performance on the field. To achieve this, a recurrent neural network prediction model based on Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) is proposed. The model seeks to leverage athlete portraits and characteristics for performance prediction. METHODS: The proposed methodology involves constructing athlete portraits and analyzing athlete characteristics to develop the prediction model. The BiLSTM-based recurrent neural network is utilized for its ability to capture temporal dependencies in sequential data. The model's performance is assessed through experimental analysis. RESULTS: Experimental results demonstrate that the athlete performance prediction model achieved an overall accuracy of 0.7524. Comparative analysis reveals that the proposed BiLSTM model outperforms traditional methods such as Linear Regression and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), showcasing superior prediction accuracy. CONCLUSION: This study introduces a novel approach to predicting athlete performance in UFC matches using a BiLSTM-based recurrent neural network. By leveraging athlete portraits and characteristics, the proposed model offers improved accuracy compared to classical methods. Enhancing the predictive capabilities in UFC not only enriches the viewing experience but also contributes to the development of exceptional athletes in the sport.

RESUMO

The depth discrimination in confocal microscopy is based on the digital analysis of depth response signals obtained by each camera pixel during measurement. Various signal-processing algorithms are used for this purpose. The accuracy of these algorithms is inter alia restricted by the axial symmetry of the signals. However, in practice response signals are rather asymmetrical especially in case of measurement objects with critical surface structures such as edges or steep flanks. We present a novel signal-processing algorithm based on an exponential function with a cubic argument to handle asymmetrical and also symmetrical depth response signals. Results obtained by this algorithm are compared to those of commonly used signal processing algorithms. It turns out that the novel algorithm is more robust, more accurate and exhibits a repeatability of a similar order compared to other algorithms. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: A novel, more robust algorithm with improved accuracy in peak extraction especially for asymmetrical response signals in confocal microscopy is introduced and validated. Improved accuracy is demonstrated for height and layer thickness measurements.

RESUMO

Background: Scars are a natural consequence of the healing process, but with an impact on the psychological and social level for the individual, which can even lead to withdrawal and social stigmatization. We aimed to analyze the psychosocial impact determined by post-traumatic scars, using psychometric scales, to assess the effectiveness of the Mekereș' Psychosocial Internalization Scale (MPIS), and to identify relevant predictors of traumatic and surgical scar internalization. Methods: Our cohort included 293 participants, 149 women and 144 men, aged 18-64 years who were screened for scar characteristics and completed a set of psychological scales. We compared the results obtained in two subgroups: 153 subjects with posttraumatic scars and 140 with surgical scars. Results: Relevant predictors for posttraumatic scar internalization (R 2 = 0.721) are adaptation time, age of the occurrence and subjective appraisal, while for the depression, and hopelessness relevant predictors are the subjective appraisal of the scars and the posttraumatic quality of life. Conclusion: The psychological and social reporting of the aftermath of trauma, that has been followed by scar-ring, is an indicator of how a person will react and could indicate the susceptibility to psycho-pathology.

RESUMO

This study aimed to characterize the adverse events of dietary supplements provided by medical professionals and to examine whether there are challenges when applying each case to the causality evaluation algorithm. Data from 290 individual cases collected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in cooperation with the Tokyo Medical Association and Tokyo Pharmaceutical Association were analyzed. The causality evaluation algorithm that was used in this study was reported previously. Female patients accounted for 73% of those who experienced adverse events. Both male and female patients who had adverse events were in their 60s and 70s. Many of the participants had underlying diseases and aimed to improve their medical conditions. Furthermore, skin symptoms were the most common. Many of the supplements were made from natural substances, with an average of 7.7 ingredients in each product. More than half of the products were used for less than one month. In most cases, symptoms improved after discontinuation of the products or after the administration of medications. When each event was applied to the causality assessment algorithm, it was necessary to understand the information as follows: in cases of product discontinuation with simultaneous medications recovery was not concluding the product discontinuation, and the physician's judgement should be place as objective evidence. The algorithm was successfully applicable to cases provided by medical professionals and the evaluated results for all cases were 30% possible and 62% highly possible. The evaluated results indicate the relationship between products/ingredients and the symptom, and by adding information on the symptom and its severity, it is possible to clarify the phenomenon to be noted.

RESUMO

MET amplifications (METamp) occur in 5% of NSCLC and represent in most case mechanisms of resistance to ALK and/or EGFR-targeted therapies. METamp detection can be performed using different techniques, although Fluorescence In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) remains the gold-standard, especially in the context of subclonality. To date current evaluation algorithms of MET amplifications are time consuming. Aim of the study was to identify a faster, equally reliable diagnostic algorithm for the detection of METamp, which is currently classified in negativity and low/intermediate/high-level amplification. N=497 NSCLC cases with available MET-FISH data had been selected. The results based on the first evaluated 20 cells had been re-calculated and compared with the definitive results based on 60 cells. For n=464 (93.4%) identical results had been obtained when counting 20 cells instead of 60 cells. Thirty-three cases (5.6%) showed a discrepancy, leading to an incorrect upgrade to a higher diagnostic category (n=25) and to an incorrect downgrade (n=8). We propose a simplified, yet equally reliable MET FISH-algorithm: after accurate screening of the whole tumor slide, twenty tumor cells have to be evaluated and results calculated: If the result is negative, or if all criteria of high-level METamp are fulfilled, the case can be signed out as such. All other cases should be considered as equivocal and additional 40 cells have to be counted. Given that, reliable results can be obtained by counting 20 cells only and an "equivocal" category for cases that need further investigation have been clearly defined.

RESUMO

As a novel technology, wearable physiological parameter monitoring technology represents the future of monitoring technology. However, there are still many problems in the application of this kind of technology. In this paper, a pilot study was conducted to evaluate the quality of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals of the wearable physiological monitoring system (SensEcho-5B). Firstly, an evaluation algorithm of ECG signal quality was developed based on template matching method, which was used for automatic and quantitative evaluation of ECG signals. The algorithm performance was tested on a randomly selected 100 h dataset of ECG signals from 100 subjects (15 healthy subjects and 85 patients with cardiovascular diseases). On this basis, 24-hour ECG data of 30 subjects (7 healthy subjects and 23 patients with cardiovascular diseases) were collected synchronously by SensEcho-5B and ECG Holter. The evaluation algorithm was used to evaluate the quality of ECG signals recorded synchronously by the two systems. Algorithm validation results: sensitivity was 100%, specificity was 99.51%, and accuracy was 99.99%. Results of controlled test of 30 subjects: the median (Q1, Q3) of ECG signal detected by SensEcho-5B with poor signal quality time was 8.93 (0.84, 32.53) minutes, and the median (Q1, Q3) of ECG signal detected by Holter with poor signal quality time was 14.75 (4.39, 35.98) minutes (Rank sum test, P=0.133). The results show that the ECG signal quality algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively evaluate the ECG signal quality of the wearable physiological monitoring system. Compared with signal measured by Holter, the ECG signal measured by SensEcho-5B has the same ECG signal quality. Follow-up studies will further collect physiological data of large samples in real clinical environment, analyze and evaluate the quality of ECG signals, so as to continuously optimize the performance of the monitoring system.

RESUMO

Historically, metatarsalgia was approached as a forefoot condition, most often associated with hallux valgus. Consequently, surgical treatments were limited to that anatomic zone, disregarding more proximal structures. In order to assess this entity properly, it is necessary to consider anatomic and biomechanical factors, as well as general and local conditions of the affected patients. A thorough understanding of the multiple potential causal factors is essential to ensure selection of the optimal treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Reports are conflicting on whether serum uric acid (sUA) levels are independently associated with increased cardiovascular (CV) death risk. METHODS: This post hoc analysis assessed the relationship between sUA levels and CV death risk score in 7531 patients from the cross-sectional, multinational EURIKA study (NCT00882336). Patients had at least one CV risk factor but no clinical CV disease. Ten-year risk of CV death was estimated using SCORE-HDL and SCORE algorithms, categorized as low (<1%), intermediate (1% to <5%), high (≥5% to <10%) or very high (≥10%). RESULTS: Mean serum sUA levels increased significantly with increasing CV death risk category in the overall population and in subgroups stratified by diuretics use or renal function (all P<0.0001). Multivariate ordinal logistic regression analyses, adjusted for factors significantly associated with CV death risk in univariate analyses (study country, body mass index, number of CV risk factors and comorbidities, use of lipid lowering therapies, antihypertensives and antidiabetics), showed a significant association between sUA levels and SCORE-HDL category in the overall population (OR: 1.39 [95% CI: 1.34-1.44]) and all subgroups (using diuretics: 1.32 [1.24-1.40]; not using diuretics: 1.46 [1.39-1.53]; estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR]<60ml/min/1.73m2: 1.30 [1.22-1.38]; eGFR≥60ml/min/1.73m2: 1.44 [1.38-1.51]; all P<0.0001). Similar results were obtained when using SCORE. CONCLUSIONS: Higher sUA levels are associated with progressively higher 10-year CV death risk score in patients with at least one CV risk factor but no CV disease.

RESUMO

One of the issues of the Hungarian Water Management Strategy is the improvement and upgrading of the water of Lake Balaton. The Water Framework Directive (WFD) specifies and sets forth the achievement of the good ecological status. However, the assessment of the water quality of the lake as a complex system requires a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation procedure. Measurements were carried out around the Lake Balaton at ten different locations/sites and 13 physical-chemical parameters were monitored at each measurement site. For the interpretation of the water chemistry parameters the Aquatic Environmental Assessment (AEA) method devised by authors was used for the water body of the Lake Balaton. The AEA method can be used for all types of the water bodies since it is flexible and using individual weighting procedure for the water chemistry parameters comprehensive information can be obtain. The AEA method was compared with existing EIA methods according to a predefined criterion system and proved to be the most suitable tool for evaluating the environmental impacts in our study. On the basis of the results it can be concluded that the status of the quality of studied area on the Lake Balaton can be categorized as proper quality (from the outcome of the ten measurement sites this conclusion was reached at seven sites).

RESUMO

The Water Framework Directive aims at reaching the good ecological status of the surface and ground water bodies (László et al. Microchem J 85(1):65-71, 2007). The paper deals with quality evaluation of waters with special focus on the water chemistry parameters as defined in the Water Framework Directive and pertaining legal regulations. The purpose of this paper is to devise a quantitative type of water quality assessment method which could provide rapid, accurate, and reliable information on the quality of the surface waters by using water chemistry parameters. Quality classes have been defined for every water chemistry parameter in light of the legal limit values of the water parameters. In addition to this, weight indices were calculated on the basis of the outcome of the paired comparison of water chemistry parameters and normalized matrix. This was followed by the parametric level analysis of the water chemistry parameters, and finally, the aquatic environment index (AEI) was calculated, which provided general information on the quality of water regarding the water chemistry parameters. The method was illustrated on Lake Balaton, Hungary in which case water samples taken from Balatonfüred City lake area were analyzed and evaluated with the method devised.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clinical assessment scales are the most common means used by physicians to assess tremor severity. Some scientific tools that may be able to replace these scales to objectively assess the severity, such as accelerometers, digital tablets, electromyography (EMG) measurement devices, and motion capture cameras, are currently available. However, most of the operational modes of these tools are relatively complex or are only able to capture part of the clinical information; furthermore, using these tools is sometimes time consuming. Currently, there is no tool available for automatically quantifying tremor severity in clinical environments. NEW METHOD: We aimed to develop a rapid, objective, and quantitative system for measuring the severity of finger tremor using a small portable optical device (Leap Motion). RESULTS: A single test took 15s to conduct, and three algorithms were proposed to quantify the severity of finger tremor. The system was tested with four patients diagnosed with essential tremor. COMPARISON WITH EXISTING METHOD: The proposed algorithms were able to quantify different characteristics of tremor in clinical environments, and could be used as references for future clinical assessments. CONCLUSIONS: A portable, easy-to-use, small-sized, and noncontact device (Leap Motion) was used to clinically detect and record finger movement, and three algorithms were proposed to describe tremor amplitudes.

RESUMO

Despite the 5-10% prevalence of developmental disability, the early identification for such problems remains difficult. Pediatricians tried to diagnose developmental delay early to promote early intervention and thus to reduce long-term disability in these patients. Identification of a delayed young child by routine pediatric screening mandates a careful search for an underlying etiology. Accurate etiologic determination, despite the fact that many disorders have no specific therapeutic interventions, has specific implications regarding treatment, prognosis, ongoing medical management of associated conditions, assessment of recurrence risk, counseling of families if there is a risk of recurrence, and implication of prevention programs. In this article, we shall review the available approaches for identification of developmental delay in infants and young children. In addition, we shall review the algorithm for the etiologic evaluation of the child with developmental disability.
