RESUMO

Polymer-inorganic composite electrolytes (PICE) have attracted tremendous attention in all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) due to facile processability. However, the poor Li+ conductivity at room temperature (RT) and interfacial instability severely hamper the practical application. Herein, we propose a concept of competitive coordination induction effects (CCIE) and reveal the essential correlation between the local coordination structure and the interfacial chemistry in PEO-based PICE. CCIE introduction greatly enhances the ionic conductivity and electrochemical performances of ASSLBs at 30 °C. Owing to the competitive coordination (Cs+…TFSI-…Li+, Cs+…C-O-C…Li+ and 2,4,6-TFA…Li…TFSI-) from the competitive cation (Cs+ from CsPF6) and molecule (2,4,6-TFA: 2,4,6-trifluoroaniline), a multimodal weak coordination environment of Li+ is constructed enabling a high efficient Li+ migration at 30 °C (Li+ conductivity: 6.25×10-4 S cm-1; tLi +=0.61). Since Cs+ tends to be enriched at the interface, TFSI- and PF6 - in situ form LiF-Li3N-Li2O-Li2S enriched solid electrolyte interface with electrostatic shielding effects. The assembled ASSLBs without adding interfacial wetting agent exhibit outstanding rate capability (LiFePO4: 147.44 mAh g-1@1 C and 107.41mAhg-1@2 C) and cycling stability at 30 °C (LiFePO4:94.65 %@200cycles@0.5 C; LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2: 94.31 %@200 cycles@0.3 C). This work proposes a concept of CCIE and reveals its mechanism in designing PICE with high ionic conductivity as well as high interfacial compatibility at near RT for high-performance ASSLBs.

RESUMO

Antibiotic wastewater contains a variety of pollutant stressors that can induce and promote antibiotic resistance (AR) when released into the environment. Although these substances are mostly in concentrations lower than those known to induce AR individually, it is possible that antibiotic wastewater discharge might still promote the AR transmission risk via additive or synergistic effects. However, the comprehensive effect of antibiotic wastewater on AR development has rarely been evaluated, and its treatment efficiency remains unknown. Here, samples were collected from different stages of a cephalosporin production wastewater treatment plant, and the potential AR induction effect of their chemical mixtures was explored through the exposure of the antibiotic-sensitive Escherichia coli K12 strain. Incubation with raw cephalosporin production wastewater significantly promoted mutation rates (3.6 × 103-9.3 × 103-fold) and minimum inhibition concentrations (6.0-6.7-fold) of E. coli against ampicillin and chloramphenicol. This may be attributed to the inhibition effect and oxidative stress of cephalosporin wastewater on E. coli. The AR induction effect of cephalosporin wastewater decreased after the coagulation sedimentation treatment and was completely removed after the full treatment process. A Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the reduction in the AR induction effect had a strong positive correlation with the removal of organics and biological toxicity. This indicates that the antibiotic wastewater treatment had a collaborative processing effect of conventional pollutants, toxicity, and the AR induction effect. This study illustrates the potential AR transmission risk of antibiotic wastewater and highlights the need for its adequate treatment.

RESUMO

Aspergillus tubingensis spondylitis (AS) is a rare spinal infectious disease with severe clinical symptoms and a challenging diagnosis. Treatment of AS is challenging due to its prolonged duration, substantial side effects, and complex drug-drug interactions. However, there is a lack of experience in individualized pharmaceutical care of AS by clinical pharmacists, especially in the presence of rifampicin, which has sustained liver enzyme induction after discontinuation. Our case described an immunocompetent patient infected with Aspergillus tubingensis spondylitis. Clinical pharmacists proposed an individualized treatment regimen for AS, after considering the effects of sustained liver enzyme induction of rifampicin (after discontinuation) on voriconazole, and utilized caspofungin as a bridge-connection scheme. We also paid attention to changes in indicators during treatment and managed adverse reactions. Therapeutic drug monitoring of voriconazole was also used to optimize the dosing regimen. With the individualized pharmaceutical care of clinical pharmacists and the efforts of clinicians, the patient's incision healed well after 33 days of hospitalization, and she was discharged with significant improvement. Therefore, individualized pharmaceutical care by a clinical pharmacist can help optimize the treatment of Aspergillus tubingensis spondylitis. In clinical practice, drug-drug and drug-diet interactions may affect voriconazole efficacy, and individualized dose adjustment using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is critical to improve efficacy and reduce adverse reactions.

RESUMO

The current sorbents used to remove Cr (VI) from electroplating wastewater are faced with some challenges including the difficulty in separating, regenerating, and safely disposing of adsorbed Cr species. To address these challenges, CuSx/TiO2 was developed to recover Cr (VI) from electroplating wastewater. CuSx/TiO2 had superior performance in removing Cr (VI), with the rate and capacity of approximately 9.36 mg g-1 h-1 and 68.8 mg g-1 at initial pH 4.0, respectively. Additionally, Cu2+ released from CuSx/TiO2 during Cr (VI) removal would come back to its external surface as the Cu(OH)2 precipitate at initial pH 4.0, which helped to prevent the generation of secondary pollution. The Cu(OH)2 precipitate would be decomposed into CuOx after calcination, which would then be transformed back into CuSx by re-sulfuration for regeneration. Hence, CuSx showed a magical induction effect on Cr (VI) recovery, and Cr (VI) from electroplating wastewater might be gradually enriched as Cr2O3 in the sandwich between CuSx and TiO2 through multiple regenerations and removals, which could be considered as a chromium ore resource for industrial applications when the amount of enriched Cr2O3 reached more than 30 wt%. Overall, CuSx/TiO2 showed great potential as a promising sorbent for Cr (VI) removal from electroplating wastewater.

RESUMO

Here we investigate the aggregation behaviours of three prepared dyes in the liquid phase to pick out one possessing J-aggregation characteristic that is of significant interest for organic materials used in multiple bio-applications. The self-assembly of dyes usually leads to various forms of aggregates, for example, H-aggregates or J-aggregates and it is easy to distinguish bathochromic J-aggregation from hypsochromic H-aggregation using UV/vis light spectroscopy. Enlightened by the cyanine dyes that have shown a great tendency to self-associate, we designed and synthesized three cyanine dyes: Cy7-Ph, DCy7-Ph, and SN-Cy7-Ph, followed by the study of the influence of multiple factors on their aggregation behaviours, including solvent polarity, ionic strength, and temperature. Finally, we found that of the three molecules only SN-Cy7-Ph could self-assemble into J-aggregates conveniently and stably in the aqueous phase under normal conditions.

RESUMO

Plant somatic cells can reprogram into differentiated embryos through somatic embryogenesis (SE) on the condition of plant growth regulators (PGRs). RNA sequencing analysis was performed to investigate transcriptional profiling on cotton redifferentiated callus that was induced by different auxin types (IAA and 2,4-D), different concentrations (0, 0.025, and 0.05 mg L-1), and different incubation times (0, 5, and 20 days). Under the 2,4-D induction effect, signal transduction pathways of plant hormones were significantly enriched in the embryogenic response stage (5 days). These results indicated that auxin signal transduction genes were necessary for the initial response of embryogenic differentiation. In the pre-embryonic initial period (20 days), the photosynthetic pathway was significantly enriched. Most differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were downregulated under the induction of 2,4-D. Upon the dose effect of IAA and 2,4-D, respectively, pathways were significantly enriched in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, fatty acid metabolism, and carbon metabolic pathways. Therefore, primary and secondary metabolism pathways were critical in cotton SE. These results showed that complex synergistic mechanisms involving multiple cellular pathways were the causes of the induction and dose effect of auxin-induced SE. This study reveals a systematic molecular response to auxin signals and reveals the way that regulates embryogenic redifferentiation during cotton SE.

RESUMO

Concerning the emissions of hydrogen cyanide (HCN) and other N-bearing air pollutants from the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) regeneration units, this paper has conducted a comprehensive testing and surface characterisation of four industrial spent catalysts, aged catalysts and hard coke sample in three different schemes, Ar-TPD, O2 -TPO and rapid heating to elaborate the transformation of N upon the influence of the heterogeneity of coke and N speciation. In the Ar-TPD scheme, the surface N is responsive for the emission of gaseous NH3 from pyrrolic N-5 and HCN from both pyridinic N-6 and quaternary N-Q. The removal of soft coke is beneficial in promoting the surface exposure of hard coke, thereby increasing the HCN emission dramatically. In the O2-TPO scheme, the oxygen accessibility is the principal factor governing the emission of HCN. The external soft coke is able to access the bulk O2 firstly, the combustion of which in turn provides heat back to promote the cracking of internal hard coke from the same and neighbouring particles to release more HCN. The induction effect of bulk O2 is also superior over the spent catalyst properties in formulating a nearly identical trend of HCN emission for all the four spent catalysts tested. Finally, for the use of rapid heating scheme that is typical in a commercial FCC regenerator, it is effective in accelerating the volatilisation of soft coke quickly, thereby promoting the oxygen accessibility to hard coke and the internal N-bearing precursors so as to mitigate the emission of HCN effectively. The use of a large superficial velocity of gas is further effective in sweeping the volatiles including HCN away from the catalyst, promoting their oxidation extent accordingly.

RESUMO

Soaring developments in wearable electronics raise an urgent need for stretchable electrets. However, achieving soft electrets simultaneously possessing excellent stretchability, longevity, and high charge density is still challenging. Herein, a facile approach is proposed to prepare an all-polymer hybrid composite electret based on the coupling of elastomer and ePTFE membrane. The composite electrets are fabricated via a facile casting and thermal curing process. The obtained soft composite electrets exhibit constantly high surface potential (-0.38 kV) over a long time (30 days), large strain (450%), low hysteresis, and excellent durability (15,000 cycles). To demonstrate the applications, the stretchable electret is utilized to assemble a self-powered flexible sensor based on the electrostatic induction effect for the monitoring of human activities. Additionally, output signals in the pressure mode almost two orders of magnitude larger than those in the strain mode are observed and the sensing mechanism in each mode is investigated.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The use of medicinal agents to augment the fetal hemoglobin (HbF) accretion is an important approach for the treatment of sickle-cell anemia and ß-thalassemia. HbF inducers have the potential to reduce the clinical symptoms and blood transfusion dependence in the patients of ß- hemoglobinopathies. OBJECTIVE: The current study was aimed to examine the erythroid induction potential of newly synthesized thiourea derivatives. METHODS: Thiourea derivatives 1-27 were synthesized by using environmentally friendly methods. Compounds 3, 10 and 22 were found to be new. The structures of synthesized derivatives were deduced by using various spectroscopic techniques. These derivatives were then evaluated for their erythroid induction using the human erythroleukemic K562 cell line, as a model. The benzidine-H2O2 assay was used to evaluate erythroid induction, while HbF expression was studied through immunocytochemistry using the Anti-HbF antibody. Cytotoxicity of compounds 1-27 was also evaluated on mouse fibroblast 3T3 cell line and cancer Hela cell line using MTT assay. RESULT: All the compounds (1-27) have not been reported for their erythroid induction activity previously. Compounds 1, 2, and 3 were found to be the potent erythroid inducing agents with % induction of 45± 6.9, 44± 5.9, and 41± 6.1, at 1.56, 0.78, and 0.78 µM concentrations, respectively, as compared to untreated control (12 ± 1 % induction). Furthermore, compound 1, 2, and 3 significantly induced fetal hemoglobin the expression up to 4.2-fold, 4.06-fold, and 3.52-fold, respectively, as compared to untreated control. Moreover, the compounds 1-4, 6-9, 11, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 23, and 25 were found to be non-cytotoxic against the 3T3 cell line. CONCLUSION: This study signifies that the compounds reported here may serve as the starting point for the designing and development of new fetal hemoglobin inducers for the treatment of ß- hemoglobinopathies.

RESUMO

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS) non-radical reactions possess high catalytic activity for specific pollutants under complex water environments. However, the synthesis of high-performance catalysts and the discussion of non-radical reaction mechanisms are still unsatisfactory. Here, a novel and efficient non-radical catalyst (O-CuCN) was successfully assembled using the scheme of Copper (Cu) and oxygen (O) co-doping. The O element with great electronegativity induces graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) to act as a medium to change the phase properties and electron density distribution of g-C3N4, and provides a support for the targeting of Cu. Cu is introduced into g-C3N4 as an active site in the phase structure, and an electron-rich center with the Cu site is formed, which forms a metastable intermediate after the adsorption of PMS by Cu as the active site. The new catalyst O-CuCN has outstanding activity in the PMS system, and its degradation rate for bisphenol A (BPA) is increased by more than 20 times compared to that of g-C3N4, and it has excellent environmental tolerance and stability. This work demonstrates that the formation of metastable intermediates and the initiation of effective non-radical reactions can be achieved by constructing differentiated electron density structures.

RESUMO

Sodium (Na) metal batteries have attracted increasing attention and gained rapid development. However, the processing, storing, and application of Na metal anodes are restricted by its inherent stickiness and poor mechanical properties. Herein, an MXene (Ti3C2Tx)-coated carbon cloth (Ti3C2Tx-CC) host is designed and synthesized, which shows a highly metallic conductive and sodiophilic surface. After a thermal infusion treatment, a Na-Ti3C2Tx-CC composite with rigidity and bendability is obtained and employed as a metal anode for Na ion batteries. The Na-Ti3C2Tx-CC electrodes present stable cycling performance and high stripping/plating capacity in both an ether-based (up to 5 mA·h·cm-2) and a carbonate-based (up to 8 mA·h·cm-2) electrolyte. The fundamental protection mechanism of MXene Ti3C2Tx is investigated. Ti3C2Tx efficiently induces Na's initial nucleation and laterally oriented deposition, which effectively avoids the generation of mossy/dendritic Na. The arrangement of Na atoms deposited on the MXene surface inherits the MXene atomic architecture, leading to a smooth "sheet-like" Na surface. Meanwhile, a flexible Na-based Na-Ti3C2Tx-CC∥Na3V2(PO4)3 device is assembled and exhibits capable electrochemical performance.

RESUMO

Novel purine nucleoside derivatives containing a sulfonamide moiety were prepared, as well as their antiviral activities against potato virus Y (PVY), cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) were evaluated. The antiviral mechanisms of the compounds were investigated. Results showed that most of the compounds had good antiviral activities. Compound 5 at 500 µg/mL exhibited excellent curative and protective activities of 52.5% and 60.0% and of 52.0% and 60.2% for PVY and CMV, respectively, which are higher than those of ningnanmycin (48.1%, 49.6%; 45.3%, 47.7%), ribavirin (38.3%, 48.2%; 40.8%, 45.5%), and chitosan oligosaccharide (32.5%, 33.8%; 35.1%, 34.6%). Moreover, compound 5 displayed good inactivating activity against TMV, with an EC50 value of 48.8 µg/mL, which is better than that of ningnanmycin (84.7 µg/mL), ribavirin (150.4 µg/mL), and chitosan oligosaccharide (521.3 µg/mL). The excellent antiviral activity of compound 5 is related to its immune induction effect which can regulate the physiological and biochemical processes in plants, including defense-related enzyme activities, defense-related genes, and photosynthesis-related proteins. These results indicate that purine nucleoside derivatives containing a sulfonamide moiety are worthy of further research and development as new antiviral agents.

RESUMO

Electrical activities of excitable cells produce diverse spiking-bursting patterns. The dynamics of the neuronal responses can be changed due to the variations of ionic concentrations between outside and inside the cell membrane. We investigate such type of spiking-bursting patterns under the effect of an electromagnetic induction on an excitable neuron model. The effect of electromagnetic induction across the membrane potential can be considered to analyze the collective behavior for signal processing. The paper addresses the issue of the electromagnetic flow on a modified Hindmarsh-Rose model (H-R) which preserves biophysical neurocomputational properties of a class of neuron models. The different types of firing activities such as square wave bursting, chattering, fast spiking, periodic spiking, mixed-mode oscillations etc. can be observed using different injected current stimulus. The improved version of the model includes more parameter sets and the multiple electrical activities are exhibited in different parameter regimes. We perform the bifurcation analysis analytically and numerically with respect to the key parameters which reveals the properties of the fast-slow system for neuronal responses. The firing activities can be suppressed/enhanced using the different external stimulus current and by allowing a noise induced current. To study the electrical activities of neural computation, the improved neuron model is suitable for further investigation.

RESUMO

Nicotine-diet interactions have a particular importance on human health. Some food substances are subject to change hepatic CYP2A6 metabolism rate for nicotine and its levels in smokers consequently. This study investigates the effect of pomegranate and licorice drinks on nicotine metabolism, by a new developed and validated method for simultaneous determination of nicotine with its major metabolites (cotinine and nicotine N-oxide) in human urine, utilizing LC ESI-orbitrap-MS. Twenty-four Jordanian healthy and smoker volunteers were participated in two equal groups, crossover design for each of pomegranate and licorice test drink. In the study periods each group assigned either to drink test juice three times a day or to be avoided from test drink for 7 successive days, and then both groups switched their drink treatment in subsequent period. Early morning urine samples were collected from all volunteers after each period. Nicotine metabolism rate was evaluated from nicotine/cotinine and nicotine/nicotine N-oxide ratios in urine. A consistent trend of increase in metabolism rate for nicotine was observed from urine analysis under pomegranate or licorice drink conditions compared to control conditions. Pomegranate and licorice drinks are increasing the metabolism rate for nicotine in terms of induction effect for hepatic cytochrome p450 enzymes.

RESUMO

The aim of this study is to establish the in vitro methods for the study of induction and inhibition on CYP450 by drugs, and to validate the analytical method and incubation system. A method for the simultaneous determination of eight metabolites of seven subtypes of CYP450 enzymes probe substrates in human liver microsomes (HLM) was established and validated. The incubation system was optimized to confirm the incubation time and protein concentration of HLM, the enzyme activity of seven subtypes of CYP450 enzymes in HLM was determined, and the inhibition effects on each CYP450s were checked by positive controls. The method for the simultaneous determination of three metabolites of subtypes of CYP450 enzymes was established and validated in human primary cultured hepatocytes (HPCH) using the incubation medium. The enzyme activity of three subtypes of CYP450 enzymes in HPCH was determined, and the total RNA was extracted from HPCH after incubation. The expression of CYP450 enzymes were measured by Taqman fluorescence probe method. The induction effects on each CYP450s were examined using the positive controls. The established methods for the determination of metabolites of probe substrates were fully validated, and the results were conformed to the requirements of bioanalytical method validation. The induction and inhibition effects on each CYP450s were checked by positive controls. The established in vitro methods for the study of drug induction and inhibition on CYP450 were simple and reliable, which could be used in the investigation of enzyme induction or inhibition properties of new drug candidates and to evaluation the metabolic interactions of concomitant medication in clinical.
