RESUMO

The precise placement of antennas is essential to ensure effective coverage, service quality, and network capacity in wireless communications, particularly given the exponential growth of mobile connectivity. The antenna positioning problem (APP) has evolved from theoretical approaches to practical solutions employing advanced algorithms, such as evolutionary algorithms. This study focuses on developing innovative web tools harnessing genetic algorithms to optimize antenna positioning, starting from propagation loss calculations. To achieve this, seven empirical models were reviewed and integrated into an antenna positioning web tool. Results demonstrate that, with minimal configuration and careful model selection, a detailed analysis of antenna positioning in any area is feasible. The tool was developed using Java 17 and TypeScript 5.1.6, utilizing the JMetal framework to apply genetic algorithms, and features a React-based web interface facilitating application integration. For future research, consideration is given to implementing a server capable of analyzing the environment based on specific area selection, thereby enhancing the precision and objectivity of antenna positioning analysis.

RESUMO

A combination of acrylate formulations and SiO2 nanoparticles is investigated with the aim to improve the optical properties of low-refractive index polymers that are used for the fabrication of planar optical waveguides. A decrease in refractive index and also in the thermo-optic coefficient of nanocomposite materials is clearly demonstrated, while some formulations exhibit an increase in the glass transition temperature. The possibility of using these nanocomposite materials to fabricate waveguiding layers with low optical propagation losses at telecommunication wavelengths around 1550 nm is also shown. The nanomaterials can be applied in optical microchips on polymer platforms.

RESUMO

A medium frequency (MF) communication system operating in an underground coal mine couples its signals to a long conductor, which acts as an MF transmission line (TL) in a tunnel to permit communications among transceivers along the line. The TL is generally the longest signal path for the system, and its propagation characteristics will have a major impact on the performance of the MF communication system. In this study, the propagation characteristics of three types of MF TLs in two layouts-on the roof and on the floor of a coal mine tunnel-were obtained in an effort to understand the propagation characteristics of different TLs in different locations. The study confirmed a low MF signal loss on all of these TLs. The study also found that the TLs in different layouts had substantially different propagation characteristics. The propagation characteristics of these different TLs in different layouts are presented in the paper.
