RESUMO

Sabe-se que para uma restauração ser considerada um sucesso clínico é preciso que haja uma concomitância saudável entre a estrutura dentária, o material restaurador e as estruturas biológicas periodontais. As restaurações transcirúrgicas caracterizam-se como procedimentos alternativos para possibilitar a restauração de dentes com cárie dentária extensa, restaurações subgengivais desadaptadas e fraturas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo realizar um relato de caso de um procedimento cirúrgico-restaurador, através de uma técnica de restauração transcirúrgica. Este estudo tem como justificativa relatar um caso clínico, colaborando com maiores informações sobre a escolha da técnica a ser empregada, mostrando em quais situações devemos escolher uma restauração transcirúrgica e quais seus benefícios. Também, salientar se devemos fazer a recuperação do espaço biológico do periodonto ou não(AU)


It is known that for a restoration to be considered a clinical success, there must be a healthy concomitance between the tooth structure, the restorative material and the periodontal biological structures. Transsurgical restorations are characterized as alternative procedures to enable the restoration of teeth with extensive dental caries, maladapted subgingival restorations and fractures. The present study aims to carry out a case report of a surgical-restorative procedure, using a transsurgical restoration technique. This study is justified by reporting a clinical case, providing more information on the choice of technique to be used, showing in which situations we should choose a transsurgical restoration and what its benefits are. Also, highlight whether we should recover the biological space of the periodontium or not(AU)

RESUMO

Restaurações diretas em resina composta são amplamente utilizadas em odontologia para restaurar dentes posteriores. Todavia, quando há grande destruição coronária, onde a distância do istmo excede dois terços da distância intercuspídea, as restaurações indiretas em resina composta são indicadas. O presente estudo teve como objetivo relatar a análise de um prontuário de um paciente que recebeu uma restauração indireta em resina composta em dente posterior amplamente destruído. Através da análise de prontuários de pacientes atendidos nas disciplinas de Estágios Supervisionados do Curso de Odontologia da FSG Centro Universitário no ano de 2023, foi selecionado um prontuário de um paciente que compareceu a clínica odontológica da FSG com uma restauração em amálgama fraturada com reparo em resina composta que apresentou sintomatologia dolorosa. O procedimento diagnóstico ocorreu através de exame clínico e radiográfico, que constatou a indicação de substituição da restauração insatisfatória e realização de uma restauração indireta em resina composta. Os resultados estéticos e funcionais apresentados demostraram a viabilidade da técnica restauradora indireta em resina composta para reabilitar dentes posteriores com ampla destruição coronária(AU)


Direct composite resin restoration are widely used in dentistry to restore posterior teeth. However, when there is large coronary destruction, that the distance from the isthmus exceeds two- thirds of the intercuspal distance, indirect composite resin restorations are indicated. This study aimed to report the analysis of a dental record of a patient who received an indirect restoration in composite resin in a badly destroyed posterior tooth. Through the analysis of dental records of patients seen in the disciplines of Supervised Internship of the Dentistry Course at FSG Centro Universitário in the year 2023, the dental record of a patient who attended the FSG dental clinic with fractured amalgam restoration with composite resin repair was selected who had painful symptoms. The diagnostic procedure took place through clinical and radiographic examination, which revealed the indication of replacing the unsatisfactory restoration and carrying out an indirect restoration in composite resin.The aesthetic and functional results presented demonstrated the viability of the indirect composite resin restoration technique for rehabilitating posterior teeth with extensive coronal destruction(AU)

AIM: To evaluate the volume of dentin removal and volume of remnants of restorative material after removal of aesthetical restorative coronal set and cervical barrier in endodontically treated mandibular molars with aid of different magnification methods, using 3D MicroCT morphometric analysis. METHODS: A sample of 30 mandibular first molars (n=30) were used. All teeth were endodontic treated, and the specimens were initially scanned in MicroCT and reconstructed. The molars were filled by single cone technique, and immediately the material at the initial 2 mm cervical level were removed. Cervical barriers were confected using ionomer glass cement added with fluorescein 0.1%, filling the 2 mm at the cervical level of the canals and 2 additional millimeters as base. Coronal restoration set was performed using aesthetical resin composites. Simulated tooth aging process was performed with 20,000 thermocycling cycles. The sample was distributed in three groups (n=10) for the removal of the restoration set and cervical barrier with diamond burs based on the magnification aid: No magnification aid (naked-eye); Operative microscope aid; REVEAL™ device aid. After removal, final 3D MicroCT scanning and reconstruction were conducted with same parameters as the initial, and superposition of final and initial scanning was done. Morphometric analysis was conducted using CTAn to assess volume of remnant restorative material (mm³), volume of dentin removal (mm³), and the direction and site of dentin removal. Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA (p<0.05). RESULTS: REVEAL™ group showed better results regarding the volume of remnant material (3.17 ± 1.65) and the percentage of dentin removal (2.56 ± 1.34). Microscope group showed no statistical difference to the REVEAL™ group of dentin removal (3.30 ± 1.48), and was statistically similar to the naked eye group in volume of remnant material (9.63 ± 4.33). Naked eye group showed the worst results for volume of remnant material (7.60 ± 2.68) and percentage of dentin removal (6.60 ± 3.70). CONCLUSION: The use of fluorescence associated with magnification was the method that presented the best results, with lower percentages of dentin removal and smaller volumes of remaining restorative material. This is an innovative technology in Endodontics that shows potential to overdue the challenge of re-accessing root canals in the context of endodontic retreatment.

In recent years, significant advancements in dental and periodontal diagnostics have paved the way for improved care. Among the available approaches, laser fluorescence (LF) is a promising method. This case report explores the utilization of a 405 nm diode laser as a diagnostic tool in the non-surgical treatment of biofilm-induced gingivitis, as well as its application in routine daily practice for diagnosing restorations and dental caries. A 24-year-old male patient and a 21-year-old female patient were included. A 405 nm diode laser (Smart M, Lasotronix, Poland) was used as a diagnostic tool with a tip diameter of 8 mm. In case one, the utilization of the 405 nm diode laser enhanced the patient's ability to perceive the presence and extent of plaque and calculus, aiding in motivation and education regarding supra-gingival dental biofilm control and it assisted the operator in precisely localizing plaque and calculus, thereby enabling more effective mechanical debridement and ultimately improving treatment outcomes. In the second case, the utilization of the laser facilitated the detection of defective composite fillings aiding in both accurate diagnosis for the operator and effective communication with the patient regarding the need for re-treatment. This study illustrates the potential of the relatively new 405 nm diode laser as a promising diagnostic tool in the daily management of periodontal patients and the detection of defective dental fillings in daily practice.

PURPOSE: To present an addendum to existing fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) classification system for maxillary prostheses. The new classification identifies the relationships between FP-1 (fixed prostheses) designs and newly developed clinical interdental gingival contours. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinical and laboratory descriptions of the various types of full-arch fixed prostheses are described with photographic illustrations. Benefits and limitations of the various prosthetic designs are explained. Surgical differences in the amount of alveolectomy are illustrated. One clinical case is demonstrated. RESULTS: A new classification system for maxillary implant fixed complete dentures is presented. The new system will serve as an improved communication aid for clinicians, patients, and laboratory technicians. Treatment of patients with edentulous maxillae and/or terminal dentitions and implant fixed complete dentures include several options relative to design and materials. Restorative space can have a major impact on prosthesis design and longevity. Early on in dental implant therapy, prostheses were generally made with cast metal frameworks, denture bases and denture teeth. Prosthetic complications were widely reported. With increased clinical experience and improved materials, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) protocols were developed that allowed stronger prostheses to be constructed in reduced or small restorative volumes. FP-1 ceramic implant-supported fixed prostheses (CISFPs) are designed to replace only the dental hard tissues and to promote preservation and rehabilitation of gingival soft tissues. The physical properties and minimum thickness requirements in full arch prostheses are influenced by several factors including distances between implants and rigid connector sizes. CONCLUSION: FP-1 CISFPs may be the closest prostheses the profession can offer edentulous patients that mimic the look, feel, and function of missing dentitions. Aesthetic outcomes of FP-1 CISFPs are variable and depend on a multitude of factors. This article presented a classification system that builds on existing classification by identifying the level of papilla heights achieved with FP-1 CISFPs.

This study aimed to evaluate the environmental impact of dental materials: commercial composite Tetric EvoCeram®, glass ionomer Equia Forte® HT Fil, laboratory-prepared composite, alkasite Cention® Forte, amalgam Amalcap® Plus, and samples from dental chair drainage systems (DCDS). Methacrylate monomers were detected in the eluates of experimental and commercials composites, and alkasite. In DCDS samples solely mercury was found at concentrations of 0.08-1.86 µg/L. The experimental composite (48 h incubation) exhibited the highest toxicity on zebrafish Danio rerio (LC50=0.70 g/L), followed by amalgam (LC50=8.27 g/L) < Tetric EvoCeram® (LC50=10.94 g/L) < Equia Forte® HT Fil (LC50=24.84 g/L) < Cention® Forte (LC50=32.22 g/L). Exposure of zebrafish to DCDS samples resulted in decreased larval body length and increased occurrences of edema and blood accumulation. The results obtained highlight the need for additional monitoring and further research on the release of unreacted monomers and mercury from dental materials and their environmental impact.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate dental esthetic screening index (DESI) Intraoral component scores among patients attending Qassim University dental clinics and the factors affecting these scores. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective study that included 150 participants aged 18 years or older with full upper and lower anterior dentitions. Standardized intraoral frontal photographs of the patients' upper and lower dentitions were acquired from their dental records, and the mean rank DESI intraoral scores were evaluated and compared across the demographic and dental characteristics of the study patients.The mean age of the patients sampled was 33.56; 57 % were female and 43 % were male. The mean DESI Intraoral score was 15.33. DESI scores were significantly higher in patients older than 35 years compared with subjects 35 years old or younger (p = 0.015). DESI scores were increased in patients who had anterior restorations compared with those who did not (p = 0.016). Conclusions: This was the first study of its kind to use the DESI in a large clinical setting. According to the DESI, most patients attending Qassim University dental clinics had good dentofacial aesthetics. Age and the presence of anterior restorations negatively impacted patients' dentofacial aesthetics. Sex, the nature of the chief complaint, a history of orthodontic treatments, and teeth bleaching did not affect the DESI scores.

Background Glass ionomer cement (GIC) serves as a crucial biomaterial in dental restoration, offering applications in filling, lining, and adhesive procedures. Nevertheless, its mechanical properties often fall short, particularly in regions subjected to considerable stress. To address this issue, zirconia nanoparticles are incorporated at specific levels. Aim To assess the antimicrobial efficacy and compressive resilience of GIC modified with zirconia nanoparticles synthesized through green synthesis methods. Material and methods Zirconia nanoparticles were synthesized via a green method utilizing aloe vera extract in solvent form. These nanoparticles were then mixed into GIC at different concentration levels. Group I incorporated zirconia nanoparticles at a concentration of 3%, Group II at 5%, and Group III at 10%, while Group IV was the control, consisting of traditional GIC. Following that, samples were prepared and underwent characterization through various analytical techniques. The ability to inhibit microbial growth and the compressive resilience of the groups were examined. Microbial inhibition against the bacterial strains was assessed through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and the ability to withstand compression was gauged by measuring the maximum force the specimen could endure before fracturing. Data underwent analysis with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp., Version 24.0, Armonk, NY). Repeated measures of analysis of variance (ANOVA) were utilized to gauge average MIC values and compressive strength. Following this, Tukey's post hoc test was employed for pairwise comparisons. Results The findings indicated, incorporating zirconia nanoparticles into GIC led to an improvement in its antimicrobial effectiveness, with a noticeable enhancement observed as the weight percent (% wt) of the additive increased. This improvement was notably noticeable in its effectiveness against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus, exceeding that of the control with a noteworthy distinction. Furthermore, there were significant enhancements in compressive strength, in Group I (180.48 ± 1.02), Group II (191.25 ± 0.52), and Group III (197.52 ± 0.75), compared to Group IV (167.22 ± 1.235), with significant disparities (p < 0.05). Conclusion The research illustrates that introducing green-synthesized zirconia nanoparticles into GIC leads to heightened bactericidal potency and compressive resilience when contrasted with the control group (Group IV). Notably, the highest concentration of 10% demonstrated the most favourable antimicrobial attributes alongside enhanced strength. Consequently, integrating green-synthesized zirconia nanoparticles into GIC holds potential as a proficient material. In future studies, there should be an exploration of molecular chemistry and bonding mechanisms to enhance our comprehension of its capabilities.

While the restorative benefits of residential environments are known, the influence of residents' physical activity on their perceptions of restorativeness in different settlements is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the mediating and moderating roles of residents' physical activities and seasons on restorative perceptions using survey data from three settlements in Harbin, China, involving a baseline survey conducted in June 2023 and questionnaires administered at 30-day intervals from July to December 2023 (534 interviews). Residents' restorative perceptions and physical activity levels were highest in autumn, with settlement quality having a seasonal moderating effect and physical activity having a mediating effect.

Objectives: To determine which components in a new restorative material (Renewal MI) improve its ability to form resin tags within demineralized dentine. Methods: Varied components included polylysine (PLS), monocalcium phosphate (MCP), powder to liquid ratio (PLR), 4-methacryloyloxyethyl trimellitate anhydride (4META), and polypropylene glycol dimethacrylate (PPGDMA). Urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), containing PPGDMA (24 wt%) and 4META (3 wt%), was mixed with glass filler with MCP (8 wt%) and PLS (5 wt%). PLR was 3:1 or 5:1. Reducing MCP and/or PLS to 4 and 2 wt% respectively or fully removing MCP, PLS, 4META or PPGDMA gave 16 formulations in total. Renewal MI, Z250 (with or without Scotchbond Universal adhesive) and Activa were used as commercial comparators. Collagen discs were obtained by totally demineralizing 2 mm thick, human, premolar, coronal dentine discs by immersion in formic acid (4M) for 48 h. The restorative materials were then applied on top (n = 3), before dissolving the collagen in sodium hypochlorite (15%). SEM/EDX was employed to determine resin tags length, composition, and surface coverage. Results: Tags were >400, 20 and 200 µm and covered 62, 55 and 39% of the adhesion interface for Renewal MI, Scotchbond and Activa, respectively. With experimental formulations, they were 200 and >400 µm long with high vs. low PLR and composed primarily of polymerized monomers. Percentages of the adhesion interface covered varied between 35 and 84%. Reducing PLS or MCP caused a decline in coverage that was linear with their concentrations. Reducing MCP had lesser effect when PLS or PLR were low. Removal of 4META caused a greater reduction in coverage than PPGDMA removal. Conclusion: PLS, MCP, 4META, PPGDMA and low PLR together enhance Renewal MI tags formation in, and thereby sealing of, demineralized dentine.

In clinical dentistry, addressing unique conditions such as tilted, elongated, and torsion teeth during preparation can be effectively managed through digital tooth morphology design. The production of a multi-stage 3D-printed guide offered a more efficient and accurate solution. This article presented a case of significant inclination, elongation, and torsion in the maxillary and mandibular canines that were successfully treated using crown restoration modification. A crown preparation guide was fabricated based on the final form design of the restoration using the target restorative space analysis technique to ensure precise tooth preparation. A tooth preparation guide was also designed and utilized further to enhance accuracy and efficiency during complex tooth preparation. The combined application of these multi-stage guides demonstrated promising clinical prospects.

OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aimed to identify and describe the available evidence on the effect of magnifying devices (loupe or microscope) on the performance of restorative dental preparations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines for scoping reviews and registered on the INPLASY database. An electronic search was performed in four databases and Grey literature for articles published until November 2023. Eligibility criteria were determined using the PICOS strategy and comprised studies that evaluated the performance of magnification devices for restorative dental preparations. A bibliographic mapping of the evidence was conducted. RESULTS: Sixteen studies met the inclusion criteria. Most of the studies (n = 12) compared the performance of dental preparations using magnification loupes vs. no magnification. The magnification for loupes and microscopes ranged from 2.5x to 4.0x and 6.4x to 10x, respectively. The use of magnifying loupes improved the performance of restorative preparations in 66.6% of the evaluated studies. However, when the magnifications were compared, the greater magnification provided by microscopes did not improve preparation performance compared to magnification loupes. Regarding the place of publication, the American continent concentrates the most significant number of evidence. CONCLUSIONS: Although evidence for magnification improving the performance of dental preparations has increased over the last decade, basically only in vitro studies (most of which have taken place in the Americas) have been reported in the literature. The evidence suggests that magnification significantly improves restorative preparation performance when compared to non-magnification. However, higher magnifications (e.g., microscopes) do not appear to improve tooth preparation performance compared with lower magnification devices (e.g., magnification loupes). CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Available evidence supports that using magnification can improve the performance of restored tooth preparations. However, high magnifications have no advantages over lower magnifications.

Aim: Resin-modified glass ionomer cement tends to shrink due to polymerization of the resin component. Additionally, they are more prone to syneresis and imbibition during the setting process. This in vitro study evaluates the impact of chitosan, a biopolymer that is, both biomaterial and biocompatible, on the strength of dentin bonding and compares it with ACTIVA Bio-ACTIVE Restorative. The present study was aimed to assess the impact of including chitosan into Fuji II on the shear bond strength between. the restoration material and tooth dentin, in contrast to Bioactiva in permanent teeth. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 premolar teeth were recently extracted. The study involved three distinct sample groups. Group 1 (10 teeth) is the negative control (Fuji II), Group 2 (10 teeth) is the positive control (ACTIVA Bio-ACTIVE Restorative), and Group 3 (10 teeth) is treated with a mixture of Chitosan and Fuji II (CH-Fuji II). Each tooth's buccal and palatal cusps were eliminated to achieve a horizontal surface. Using a periodontal probe, 1.5 mm from the mesial pit to the mesial marginal ridge were removed. Restoration was implemented in all groups following manufacturer directions. Thermocycling the teeth by immersing them in a water bath with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 55°C (± 1-2°C) for 30 s (500 cycles). Each sample was attached to the universal testing machine's jig at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Shear force was used until breakage, and the bond's adhesive strength was then calculated. Statistical analysis using ANOVA with Dunnett's T3 post hoc test. Results were significant at P < 0.05. Results: Statistically significant difference was present between Chitosan and Fuji II and between Chitosan and Activa by reducing the shear bond strength. Conclusions: Addition of chitosan to Fuji II had a negative effect on the shear bond with a significant difference while Activa and Fuji II exhibited favorable shear bond strength.

This report describes multidisciplinary care combining orthodontics and restorative dentistry for a patient with Class II occlusion and stained mandibular and maxillary resin composite veneers. The orthodontic treatment improved severe overjet and malocclusion prior to restorative care. Occlusal assessment was provided with a novel digital device (PlaneSystem, Zirkonzahn) that is integrated with digital workflows for the evaluation of the occlusal plane and condylar path inclination. Diagnostic digital impressions and digital wax-up for intraoral mock-ups led to the patient's treatment acceptance. Minimally invasive tooth preparation, final digital impressions, and bonding under dental dam isolation fulfilled the patient's esthetic and functional demands with all-ceramic restorations.

Adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing recodes the genetic information. Apart from diversifying the proteome, another tempting advantage of RNA recoding is to correct deleterious DNA mutation and restore ancestral allele. Solid evidences for beneficial restorative editing are very rare in animals. By searching for "convergent recoding" under a phylogenetic context, we proposed this term for judging the potential restorative functions of particular editing site. For the well-known mammalian Gln>Arg (Q>R) recoding site, its ancestral state in vertebrate genomes was the pre-editing Gln, and all 470 available mammalian genomes strictly avoid other three equivalent ways to achieve Arg in protein. The absence of convergent recoding from His>Arg, or synonymous mutations on Gln codons, could be attributed to the strong maintenance on editing motif and structure, but the absence of direct A-to-G mutation is extremely unexpected. With similar ideas, we found cases of convergent recoding in Drosophila genus, reducing the possibility of their restorative function. In summary, we defined an interesting scenario of convergent recoding, the occurrence of which could be used as preliminary judgements for whether a recoding site has a sole restorative role. Our work provides novel insights to the natural selection and evolution of RNA editing.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly prevalent in biomedical and industrial development, capturing the interest of dental professionals and patients. Its potential to improve the accuracy and speed of dental procedures is set to revolutionize dental care. The use of AI in computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) within the restorative dental and material science fields offers numerous benefits, providing a new dimension to these practices. This study aims to provide a concise overview of the implementation of AI-powered technologies in CAD/CAM restorative dental procedures and materials. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using keywords from 2000 to 2023 to obtain pertinent information. This method was implemented to guarantee a thorough investigation of the subject matter. Continuous enhancements are being made to overcome its limitations and open new possibilities for future developments in this field.

Purpose: We aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of different cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan modes with and without the application of a metal artifact reduction (MAR) option under 5 different restorative materials. Material and methods: Our research was an in vitro study with 150 caries-free premolars and molars. The teeth were randomly divided into experimental (with artificially induced caries, n = 75) and control (without caries, n = 75) groups and were prepared based on 5 types of restorative materials, including conventional composites (Filtek Z250, Gradia), flow composite, glass ionomer, and amalgam. The teeth were examined under 2 CBCT scan modes (high-resolution [HIRes] and standard) with and without MAR application. Finally, the diagnostic accuracy index values (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC], sensitivity, and specificity) were calculated. Results: The AUC of standard scan mode with the MAR option was significantly lower than that of HIRes with MAR (p = 0.018) and without MAR option (p = 0.011) in detecting recurrent caries. Also, without MAR option, the diagnostic accuracy (AUC) of the standard mode was significantly lower than that of the HIRes (p = 0.020). Similar findings were observed for sensitivity and specificity. Moreover, diagnostic performance of standard and HIRes scan modes with and without MAR in the amalgam group was lower than that in other restorative material groups. Conclusions: Diagnostic performance of HIRes CBCT mode was higher than that of standard mode for recurrent caries and remained unaffected by MAR application. However, the accuracy in detecting recurrent caries was lower in the amalgam group compared with other restorative material groups.

Aims: This study aims to comprehensively examine the surface morphology of fiber posts after undergoing various disinfection methods, utilizing scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Materials and Methods: Twenty-one fiber posts were randomly allocated into seven experimental groups, each consisting of three samples. The disinfection methods employed were as follows: GC - no disinfection treatment; GAL - immersion in 70% alcohol, following the manufacturer's recommended protocol; GHP - soaking in 2.5% sodium hypochlorite for a duration of 10 minutes; GCL - soaking in 2% chlorhexidine gluconate for a period of five minutes; GAC - 30-second etching with 35% phosphoric acid; GPH - soaking in 10% hydrogen peroxide for a duration of 20 minutes; and GSL - autoclave sterilization. Following the disinfection procedures, SEM was employed to scrutinize the surface topography of the posts, while EDX was utilized to identify the chemical elements present on the sample surfaces. Subsequently, a descriptive analysis was conducted on the SEM images and EDX data. Results: SEM analysis revealed that all groups exhibited regions with epoxy resin-coated fibers alongside sections with exposed glass fibers. Analysis of the EDX data indicated that there were no significant differences in the predominant chemical elements across the groups. Carbon (C) and oxygen (O) registered the highest peaks, followed by silicon (Si), zirconium (Zr), sodium (Na), aluminum (Al), and calcium (Ca). Conclusions: The disinfection methods under investigation did not induce substantial alterations in the surface morphology of the fiber posts.

BACKGROUND: Non-restorative sleep (NRS) is a core symptom of insomnia that has considerable consequences for daily life. However, the association between NRS and psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) remains unclear. The current study was designed to explore the relationship between NRS and PLEs as well as the mediation/moderation role of rumination and resilience among college students in China. METHODS: 3060 college students were recruited from two universities in South China from September 21st to October 26th, 2022. Non-restorative Sleep Scale, 8-item Positive Subscale of the Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences, Ruminative Response Scale, and 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were administered. Latent profile analysis and moderated mediation analysis were performed. RESULTS: 11.3 % participants reported frequent PLEs in the past one month. Three profiles of rumination were identified and named as "low rumination" group (27.7 %), "medium rumination" group (55.3 %), and "high rumination" group (16.9 %). NRS directly predicted PLEs, and rumination played a significant mediation role between NRS and PLEs. Resilience significantly moderated the association between NRS and rumination as well as the association between NRS and PLEs. CONCLUSIONS: NRS, rumination and resilience are important predictors to PLEs. Strategies on increasing restorative sleep, decreasing rumination, and enhancing resilience are of great significance in the prevention of PLEs.

Young people that offend evidence higher rates of trauma and post-traumatic distress than non-offending peers. Effects of post-traumatic distress also parallel research on some young people that participate in restorative justice (RJ) meetings who struggle with communication, emotionally withdraw, become agitated or defiant, evidence poor understanding of harms they have caused, or fail to demonstrate empathy or remorse. In this paper I suggest post-traumatic distress may explain some variation in RJ process and outcomes hitherto ignored in existing research. I also suggest research on trauma in young people raises four areas of concern for thinking about RJ as a "trauma-informed" practice, including impacts of trauma and post-traumatic distress on (1) oral language proficiency and non-verbal communication; (2) the experience and expression of emotions; (3) offender perceptions of fairness and respect; and (4) difficulties in behavioural changes following participation in RJ meetings. I conclude with discussion of challenges to and suggestions for using RJ as a trauma-informed practice in youth justice settings.
