RESUMO

Among the 26 roughness parameters described in ISO 25178 standard, the parameters used to characterize surface performance in characterization parameter set (CPS) lack scientificity and unity, resulting in application confusion. The current CPS comes from empirical selection or small sample experiments, thus featuring low generality. A new method for constructing CPS in rough surfaces is proposed to solve the above issues. Based on a data mining method, statistical theory, and roughness parameters definitions, the 26 roughness parameters are divided into CPS and redundant parameter sets (RPS) with the help of reconstructed surfaces and machining experiments, and the mapping relationships between CPS and RPS are established. The research shows that RPS accounts for 50%, and CPS, of great significance for surface performance, and has the ability to fully cover surface topography information. The birth of CPS provides an accurate parameter set for the subsequent study of different surface performance, and it provides more effective parameters for evaluating the workpiece surface performance from the same batch.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the adhesion of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) on lithium disilicate ceramics, submitted to different intraoral polishing protocols, and the degree of surface smoothness obtained. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty lithium disilicate specimens were divided into 5 groups (n=10): G1-Glaze Group (positive control); G2-Glaze Group + Wear + Glaze; G3-Wear Group (negative control); G4-Ceramisté Wear Group; G5-Optrafine Wear Group. Surface roughness (Ra - µm) was evaluated and the surface characteristics were assessed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM); to assess S. mutans biofilm, the number of cultured cells was evaluated by counting colony-forming units (CFU/mL). The data underwent one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test (P⟨.05). RESULTS: There was a significant difference in the surface roughness of all groups compared with G3. There was no significant difference between the G4 and G5 groups that received polishing. G1 group had the lowest mean roughness values. There was a difference in Log values (CFU/mL) between the G3 group and the groups that received glaze (G1 and G2). The G3 group had the highest adhesion of S. mutans (4.53 Log). CONCLUSION: The most effective polishing protocol after wear is glazing, presenting the lowest roughness and CFU/mL values.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate a Y-TZP ceramic sintered by a microwave protocol on volume shrinkage and surface roughness. Material and Methods: Twenty four (N=24) Y-TZP discs were fabricated by milling in CAD/ CAM for size standardization. The mean final dimensions of the specimens were 15 mm X 1.6 mm. Samples were divided into 2 groups (n=12): conventional resistive heating sintering protocol (C - Control) and microwave sintering protocol (MO - experimental). For the characterization of the specimens, surface roughness (Ra and Rz parameters) was evaluated with a roughness tester, and volume shrinkage was measured with a hand micrometer. Data were statistically evaluated by Student's t and Mann-Whitney U tests (α=0.05). Results: The roughness results were: 0.25 µm ± 0.02 (Ra) and 2.68 µm ± 0.666 (Rz) for the MO samples; 0.26 µm ± 0.04 (Ra) and 2.73 µm ± 0.461 (Rz) for the C group (Ra: p = 0.19; Rz: p = 0.81). The shrinkage results was: MO (21.02% ± 2.70) and C (20.10% ± 0.52) (p = 0.274). Conclusion: The conventional and microwave sintering methods were similar regarding surface roughness and volume shrinkage of Y-TZP dental ceramic (AU)


Objetivo: avaliar uma cerâmica de zircônia estabilizada com óxido de ítrio (Y-TZP) sinterizada por um protocolo em micro-ondas quanto à contração volumétrica e a rugosidade superficial. Material e Métodos: Vinte e quatro discos (n = 24) de Y-TZP foram fresados em CAD / CAM para padronização do tamanho. A dimensões finais médias dos corpos de prova foram de 15 mm X 1,6 mm. As amostras foram divididas em 2 grupos (n = 12): protocolo de sinterização convencional por aquecimento resistivo (C - Controle) e protocolo de sinterização por microondas (MO - experimental). A caracterização das amostras foi realizada pela avaliação da rugosidade superficial, com um rugosímetro (parâmetros Ra e Rz) e da contração volumétrica, medida com um micrômetro manual. Os dados foram estatisticamente avaliados pelos testes de t-Studant e U-Mann-Whitney (α=0,05). Resultados: Os resultados de rugosidade foram: 0,25 µm ± 0,02 (Ra) e 2,68 µm ± 0,666 (Rz) para o MO; e 0,26 µm ± 0,04 (Ra) e 2,73 µm ± 0,461 (Rz) para o grupo C (Ra: p = 0,19; Rz: p = 0,81). A contração volumétrica foi de: MO (21,02% ± 2,70) e C (20,10% ± 0,52) (p = 0,274). Conclusão: os métodos de sinterização convencionais e de microondas são semelhantes, no que diz respeito à rugosidade superficial e retração de volume da cerâmica dental Y-TZP. (AU)

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different polishing protocols on surface roughness and morphology of lithium disilicate ceramics (IPS e.max CAD). Fifty ceramic bars (2.0x3.0x2.5 mm) were produced and randomly divided into five groups (n=10), according to surface treatments: C: Control; Cer: Ceramaster (60 s); CW: cloth wheel with large-grit diamond (30 s) + cloth wheel with fine-grit diamond paste (30 s); E: grey Exa-Cerapol (20 s) + pink Exa-Cerapol (20 s) + Cerapol Super (20 s); F: Felt wheel with large-grit diamond paste (30 s) + Felt wheel with fine-grit diamond paste (30 s). The samples were evaluated quantitatively for surface roughness (Ra) and qualitatively by SEM, at different moments: initial (prior to roughening), after roughening and after polishing procedures. Ra means were submitted to two-way ANOVA and Tukey test (p<0.05). After the different polishing protocols, no statistically significant differences were observed between the Cer and E groups (p=0.6347), E and CW groups (p=0.1366), and CW and FW groups (p=0.5433). Comparing different stages in the same group, it was possible to observe that CW (p<0.0001) and FW groups (p<0.0001) showed significant differences. SEM analysis revealed that both Cer and E groups exhibited a surface morphological pattern similar to that of control group. All polishing systems were effective in reducing the surface roughness of the studied ceramic type.


Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes protocolos de polimento sobre a rugosidade e morfologia superficial de uma cerâmica à base de dissilicato de lítio (IPS e.max CAD). Foram confeccionadas 50 barras cerâmicas (2,0x3,0x2,5 mm), separadas aleatoriamente em cinco grupos (n=10), conforme os tratamentos de superfície: C: Controle; BC: Borracha Ceramaster (60 s); RP: Roda de pano impregnado granulação grossa (30 s) + Roda de pano impregnado granulação fina (30 s); BE: Borracha Exa-Cerapol cinza (20 s) + Borracha Exa-Cerapol rosa (20 s) + Borracha Cerapol Super (20 s); RF: Roda de feltro com pasta diamantada grossa (30 s) + roda de feltro com pasta diamantada fina (30 s). As amostras foram avaliadas quantitativamente quanto à rugosidade superficial (Ra) e qualitativamente em MEV, em diferentes momentos: inicialmente (antes da asperização), após asperização e após os polimentos. As médias de Ra foram submetidas aos testes estatísticos ANOVA (two-way) e Tukey (p<0,05). Após os diferentes protocolos de polimento, não foi possível observar diferenças significativas entre os grupos BC e BE (p=0,6347), entre BE e RP (p=0,1366) e RP e RF (p=0,5433). Comparando as diferentes etapas de um mesmo grupo foi possível observar que os grupos RP (p<0,0001) e RF (p<0,0001) apresentaram diferenças significativas. Em MEV, os grupos BC e BE apresentam um padrão morfológico superficial semelhante ao grupo controle. Todos os sistemas de polimento foram efetivos na redução da rugosidade de superfície para o mesmo padrão de cerâmica.

En este estudio se realizó una evaluación clínica y radiográfica entre un grupo de pacientes con implantes de superficie maquinada y otro grupo con superficie modificada para determinar si existe alguna diferencia significativa que justifique la utilización de una u otra superficie; para ello se trabajó con dos tipos de implantes de la casa comercial Lifecore®, un grupo con 30 implantes de superficie maquinada o lisa (SuperCAT®) y 30 implantes de superficie modificada o rugosa (RBM®), de conexión externa, tipo tornillo, para la restauración de diente único. El procedimiento quirúrgico se realizó de acuerdo con las recomendaciones del fabricante y a los seis meses se realizó la cirugía de destape y se colocó una restauración temporal. Se siguieron los parámetros de Roos y colaboradores (1997) para la evaluación clínica y radiográfica. Se obtuvo el 100% de oseointegración de los implantes para ambos grupos. La pérdida ósea promedio fue de 0,78 mm. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la evaluación clínica y radiográfica entre los dos grupos de implantes de superficie maquinada o modificada para la restauración de diente único.


The aim of this study is to undertake a clinical and radiographic evaluation between two different patient groups: machined versus modified surface, to find out if there is statistically significant difference that support the use of implants with different surface properties. Sixty screw, external hex connection implants were examined: one group with 30 machined surface implants (SuperCAT®), and a second group with 30 implants with modified surface (RBM®), for restoring a single tooth. The surgical procedure was performed according with the manufacturer’s protocol. After six months the second phase surgery was performed and the temporary restoration was placed. At this point, the first radiographic evaluation was made. The Roos et al (1997) parameters were followed for the clinical and radiographic evaluation. A 100% of osseointegration was accomplished in both groups. The average marginal bone loss was 0.78 mm, without significant differences between the groups. All implants were reported as success grade 1, with no complications. There are not significant differences between the two groups of machined and modified implant surfaces for single tooth restoration.
