RESUMO

Epstein‒Barr virus (EBV) is a human herpes virus that is saliva-transmissible and universally asymptomatic. It has been confirmed that more than 90% of the population is latently infected with EBV for life. EBV can cause a variety of related cancers, such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and Burkitt lymphoma. Currently, many clinical studies have demonstrated that EBV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes and other cell therapies can be safely and effectively transfused to prevent and treat some diseases caused by EBV. This review will mainly focus on discussing EBV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes and will touch on therapeutic EBV vaccines and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy briefly.

RESUMO

Increasing prevalence and incidence of diabetes mellitus(DM)-the most common chronic consumptive disease worldwide-has a devastating impact on people's daily lives, particularly through the deterioration or complete loss of vision brought on by diabetic retinopathy(DR). Therefore, it is imperative to investigate the pathogenesis and effective treatment of DR. Meanwhile, Pueraria lobata is the extensively used dried root of kudzu or dried kudzu, also known as Pueraria flavonoids. Moreover, its roots are primarily composed of isoflavones, Pueroside ABC, triterpenes, and alkaloids, which can calm cardio-cerebrovascular smooth muscle and enhance microcirculation. Currently, it is widely employed for the treatment of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, osteonecrosis, DM and its complications, neurodegenerative disorders, endometriosis and tumor diseases. Inhibiting retinal neovascularization, alleviating ischemia and hypoxia, decreasing advanced glycation end products in diabetes, raising insulin-like growth factor(IGF)expression while decreasing tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-a)expression, decreasing vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)expression, reducing retinal nerve cell death, inhibiting the NOD-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)inflammatory pathway and inhibiting ferroptosis are all mechanisms by which puerarin(Pue)has been found to protect the retina in recent studies. Thus, this article summarizes the current comprehension of the mechanism and protective effect of Pue on diabetic retina, serving as a guidepost for its future development and application.

RESUMO

Background: Tong-fu therapeutic method (TFTM) is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment method for ulcerative colitis, which is a novel treatment strategies and have purgative effect. As the most representative medicinal of TFTM, Rhubarb has been reported to have a therapeutic impact on ulcerative colitis by regulating intestinal flora, anti-inflammation, and improving intestinal microcirculation. Although rhubarb has been widely used in Chinese medicine for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, the appropriate protocol is still demanded to its rational use in clinic, which promoted to evaluate the efficacy and safety for rhubarb-based therapy on ulcerative colitis. Method: Clinical trials were searched through PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Excerpta Medica Database, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, WAN FANG Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. The subgroup analyses were performed with three groups: medication, course of treatment, and route of administration. The statistical analyses were performed on Review Manager software (version 5.4.1). Results: A total of 2, 475 patients in 30 original studies were analyzed in this article. It was found that rhubarb-based therapy could increase clinical efficacy and reduce the recurrence rate. Subgroup analyses showed that rhubarb-based therapy was more effective than 5-aminosalicylic acid or sulfasalazine alone. In addition, the hypercoagulable state of ulcerative colitis could be ameliorated by decreasing platelet (PLT) and fibrinogen (FIB), and increasing prothrombin time (PT) significantly. Moreover, C-reaction protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and IL-1ß expression were significantly reduced, while IL-10 production was increased, which mediated the alleviation of intestinal inflammation stress. Conclusion: Rhubarb-based therapy could effectively improve ulcerative colitis. Of note, the rhubarb-based medicinal formulas combined with 5-ASA or SASP are more effective than the 5-ASA or SASP alone. In addition, although rhubarb has side effect, the results of our analysis showed that rhubarb-based therapy did not exhibit significant side effects. This means it has a high safety profile in clinical use. Moreover, the use of rhubarb-based therapy is recommend to use within 1-13 weeks or 3 months via administered orally or by enema, which is contributes to ensure the curative effect and avoid its toxic and side effects. As an important case of TFTM, rhubarb-based therapy provides evidence for the practical application of TFTM.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This meta-analytic study examined the effects of exercise training on depressive symptoms in mild stroke patients and the moderating effects of exercise type, therapeutic method, culture, sex, and gross domestic product (GDP) in the patient's country. METHODS: The Metafor package in R was chosen to conduct the meta-analysis, and the quality of each empirical study was evaluated according to the grading system in Cochrane. We included 36 empirical studies and 1477 patients. RESULTS: The results showed that the treatment effect of exercise training on depression in mild stroke patients was significant. The moderating effects of culture and therapeutic method were significant, but not for exercise type, sex, or GDP in the patient's country. The moderating effect of culture can be explained by the therapeutic method in different cultures. CONCLUSION: Fitness exercise is an effective method for improving depressive symptoms in mild stroke patients. Its effectiveness is moderated by the therapeutic method but is not affected by demographics, exercise type, gender, or GDP level.

RESUMO

Objective: The outcome of surgical treatment for thalamic tumors is poor. Hydrocephalus is one of the most frequent postoperative complications after unilateral thalamic tumor resection. This study examined the relationship between surgical approaches, pathological grade, image characteristics, preoperative complications, extent of resection, and incidence of postoperative hydrocephalus. Methods: The study retrospectively reviewed clinical data from 80 patients who underwent resection of thalamic tumors between 2015 and 2021. Data on patient survival and disease progression status were obtained retrospectively to calculate overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS). Results: No patients died during the perioperative period and two patients suffered postoperative coma. Tumors were totally resected in 44 cases (55 %), subtotally resected in 21 cases (26.25 %), and partially resected in 15 cases (18.75 %). Thirty-five cases of hydrocephalus occurred within 1 month after operation(43.75%). Surgical approaches associated with hydrocephalus were as follows: hydrocephalus occurred in seven cases after trans-frontal lateral ventricle approach for tumor resection (62.9%), in 17 cases after through parieto-occipital transventricular approach tumor resection (43.58%), and in one case after trans-frontal lateral ventricle approach for tumor resection + third ventriculostomy (7.1%). Postoperative muscle strength decrease occurred in 41 patients (51.25%). Longer PFS and OS were correlated with degree of resection in patients with thalamic glioblastoma (P < 0.05) and had no relationship with hydrocephalus. Conclusion: Surgical treatment of thalamic tumors is an effective therapeutic method. The incidence of postoperative hydrocephalus is not associated with tumor size, degree of tumor enhancement, peritumoral edema, tumor invasion, midline crossing, and pathological grade. The incidence of postoperative hydrocephalus was higher in patients with preoperative hydrocephalus and low resection degree, and lower in patients with endoscopic third ventriculostomy. The risk of early postoperative hydrocephalus in thalamic tumors is high. Intraoperative third ventriculostomy could reduce the incidence of early postoperative hydrocephalus. PFS and OS were longer in patients with thalamic glioblastoma with a high resection degree (P < 0.05) and were not associated with hydrocephalus.

RESUMO

Considering the physical, and psychological impacts and challenges brought about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), art therapy (AT) provides opportunities to promote human health and well-being. There are few systematic analysis studies in the fields of AT, which can provide content and direction for the potential value and impact of AT. Therefore, this paper aims to critically analyze the published work in the field of AT from the perspective of promoting health and well-being, and provides insights into current research status, hotspots, limitations, and future development trends of AT. This paper adopts a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative analysis including bibliometric analysis and keyword co-occurrence analysis. The results indicate that: (1) the current studies on AT are mostly related to research and therapeutic methods, types of AT, research populations and diseases, and evaluation of therapeutic effect of AT. The research method of AT mainly adopts qualitative research, among which creative arts therapy and group AT are common types of AT, and its main research populations are children, veterans, and adolescents. AT-aided diseases are trauma, depression, psychosis, dementia, and cancer. In addition, the therapeutic methods are mainly related to psychotherapy, drama, music, and dance/movement. Further, computer systems are an important evaluation tool in the research of AT; (2) the future development trend of AT-aided health and well-being based on research hotspots, could be focused on children, schizophrenia, well-being, mental health, palliative care, veterans, and the elderly within the context of addressing COVID-19 challenges; and (3) future AT-aided health and well-being could pay more attention to innovate and integrate the therapeutic methods of behavior, movement, and technology, such as virtual reality and remote supervision.

RESUMO

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) refers to abnormal renal structure and function for more than 3 months, and is characterized by abnormal urine, blood and kidney structure. As an important clinical manifestation of CKD, proteinuria is closely related to glomerular damage. It is not only a pathological manifestation of CKD, but also an important pathological factor to accelerate the development of CKD. After thousands of years of development, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a systematic theoretical foundation and rich clinical experience in the treatment of CKD. By referring to the treatment principles and methods of "leakage of vital essence", "low back pain", "asthenia", "blood urine" and "edema" in TCM, the general treatment principle of proteinuria is to coordinate the body Yin and Yang and restore the balance of Yin and Yang. Specific methods include removing blood stasis, sweating, urinating, invigorating the spleen and strengthening the kidney, smoothing liver and activating collaterals, and removing dampness and detoxification. Both ancient and modern physicians have established effective prescriptions according to the treatment principles and methods. Modern studies have showed that the mechanism of TCM to reduce proteinuria is mainly to improve the pathological manifestations of large area fusion of podocyte processes and complete disappearance of poddout, up-regulate the expression of nephrin and podocin, regulate immune, alleviate systemic inflammation, and improve the serum superoxide dismutase (SOD)level and the ability of the body to remove free radicals. The method and mechanism of treating renal proteinuria are discussed from three aspects:classical prescriptions, empirical prescriptions and the Chinese patent medicine. It provides a theoretical reference for the clinical treatment of chronic kidney disease, reducing the excretion of proteinuria and improving the clinical symptoms of the patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a high incidence disease with no effective therapeutic method (mortality rate > 40%). The aim of this study was to find a new and effective therapeutic method for ALI. METHODS: After the isolation of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSCs) from cesarean fetus, we transfected the HUMSCs with Lenti-ACE2 (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2) viral particles. Then we evaluated the therapeutic effect of HUMSCs harboring ACE2 on ALI, which induced by bleomycin (BLM) in rat model. RESULTS: Our results showed that HUMSCs harboring ACE2 could attenuate ALI degree through reducing pulmonary inflammatory infiltration and degree of vascular permeability, repressing the mRNA level of pro-inflammatory cytokines, activating the mRNA level of anti-inflammatory cytokines and ACE2. Besides, results also demonstrated that HUMSCs harboring ACE2 gene had higher therapeutic effects to ALI than the single factor of HUMSCs or ACE2. CONCLUSIONS: This research provided clues for the development of effective therapeutic methods to ALI using stem cell transplantation and gene therapy.

This article proposes a critical reflection on the identity basis of art therapy, a relatively new field of study, aiming to encourage more qualified dialogue in general context of psychotherapies. One of the main discussions is the designation as the expression "art therapy" refers to boundaries between two wide areas of human knowledge: arts and psychology. It establishes a direct connection between theoretical and methodological basis of analytical psychology and art therapy claiming that probably no other psychotherapeutic clinic resorts to so many diversified expressive recourses as the jungian clinic does. In spite of the theoretical and methodological background observed in analytical psychology for art therapy, the author approches the effects of this praxis - still in development - discriminating artistic and therapeutic experiences and questioning if that the art therapist proposes to their patients in their studio or office may be called "arts" - when it refers more specifically to a set of expressive techniques that explores the patient's animic and emotional world. The author concludes with a proposal for renaming art therapy to "the therapy of doing" considering that we cannot say the production of most patients in art therapy is properly artistic even if some plastic productions keep an aesthetic appeal (AU)

The author states that the work of interpretation (Deutungsarbeit) in Freudian work may be approached as a rational-conscious process or an unconscious process that occurs between the analyst - analyzed.. The fundamental rules to be born in mind in the interpretation work (Deutungsarbeit) of any manifestation of the unconscious (dream, symptom, insolvent action, etc.) when this is a rational - conscious process are established. This article is the first one to make a major contribution - an index of forty-eight (48) entrances of bibliographical references - in the research area of work interpretation (Deutungsarbeit) within the scope of Freudian work, in three different languages: German, English and Spanish.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of therapeutic method of eliminating phlegm, tranquilizing and calming wind on essential hypertension (EH) with accumulation of phlegm-wetness and influence on biochemical parameters. Methods One hundred cases of EH were selected and randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group (50 cases for each group). The two groups were given the same western treatment. The therapeutic method of eliminating phlegm, tranquilizing and calming wind (with recipe of eliminating phlegm, tranquilizing and calming wind) was given to the treatment group additionally. The course of treatment was 60 days. Grade of phlegm-wetness syndrome, blood pressure (BP), rhythm of the heart (HR), blood lipid, uric acid (UA), blood-glucose, fasting insulin and C-reactive protein of the two groups before and after treatment were observed and compared. Results BP in the two groups were improved after treatment, and BP in the treatment group was improved more than that in the control group (SBP P=0.000, DBP P =0.049). HR in the treatment group was improved notably than that in the control group (P =0.000). After treatment, the blood-glucose, fasting insulin and C-reactive protein in the treatment group were improved notably compared with those in the control group (the former P =0.001, the latter two P=0.000). UA, TC, LDL-C and HDL-C in the treatment group after treatment were improved in comparison with those before treatment (P =0.000). Conclusion On the basis of western treatment, the therapeutic method of eliminating phlegm, tranquilizing and calming wind can improve BP, HR and C-reactive protein in the patients of EH with accumulation of phlegm-wetness, and it can probably improve the blood lipid and UA to some extent.

RESUMO

The prevalence of diabetes is reaching epidemic proportions worldwide.Elevated glucose levels and associated increases in blood pressure and dyslipidemia lead to long-term complications including cardiovascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, kidney disease, and nervous system damage. These complications are largely responsible for the great increase in morbidity and mortality seen in diabetes.Unfortunately, once established, diabetes is very diffi cult to treat, and it is currently exerting tremendous pressure on healthcare systems worldwide. For these reasons, diabetes prevention has become a key target for clinicians, patients and policymakers, and a number of potential strategies are under study. The purpose of this article is fi rst to discuss the defi ciency of current preventing strategies, and the potential role and the advantages of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) to prevent diabetes.Following that, based on observational studies as well as on prospective trials, and with respect to the prevention and treatment of diabetes, the authors, therefore, suggest that the best way to approach prevention is through lifestyle modification guided by TCM theory. And those interventions should include not only herbs, but acupuncture, massage, food therapy and mind-body exercise, and they must examine cost-effectiveness as well.Future studies should also be designed with using such interventions and should be of suff icient duration to differentiate between genuine diabetes prevention as opposed to simple delay or masking of the disease.
