RESUMO

Condylomata acuminata are very rare in children, although the prevalence of clinically or cytologically visible human papilloma virus infections is high. We report on a 28-year old G IV, P II with genital warts at the time of delivery, who had a baby boy without any signs of HPV-infection. The condylomata of the mother persisted, and subsequently laser vaporisation was performed one year after delivery. One year after laser therapy, a recurrent HPV-infection in the mother was detected. At this time, her two year old son had condylomata on his scrotum. The same serotypes, HPV 6 and 11, could be identified in the mother and child. With this case report, we discuss the possible ways of transmission and consequent clinical management of HPV infections in pregnancy.

RESUMO

An infant was born with condylomata acuminata by caesarean section to a mother who had the same disease during the antenatal period. Prior to delivery amniocentesis done to obtain fluid for surfactant test revealed meconium stained amniotic fluid (MSAF). There was no history of premature rupture of membranes neither did the infant get into direct contact with maternal lower genital tract. The circumstances here suggest congenital (prenatal) transmission of the human papilloma virus (HPV). This is the only documented case of such transmission with fetal membranes remaining intact upto the time of delivery. The baby was noticed to have hydrocephalus at delivery. This raises a possible association between congenital transmission of HPV and this congenital anomaly. Confirmation of this however, must await more case reports and further scientific validation.

RESUMO

Genital condylomas complicating pregnancy pose several management problems for the obstetrician, including the issues of mechanical difficulties in women with large lesions and possible viral transmission to the fetus during delivery. Although respiratory papillomatosis is infrequent, this complication can be catastrophic and produce significant long-term morbidity in affected children. Hence, we believe that condylomas in pregnancy should not be ignored. In view of the precision, high success rate, and low risk of complications, CO2 laser surgery appears to offer the best option in patients with extensive condylomas and those whose disease proves resistant to simpler therapies.

RESUMO

Penile condyloma acuminatum is a rare pediatric entity. We report on a 17-month-old boy with penile and urethral condyloma acuminatum. The presence of cervical dysplasia in a histological setting suggestive of condyloma in his mother supports congenital acquisition of the disease. Histological and histochemical evidence for a viral etiology of the disease in the mother and patient is presented.
