Introduction: Laboratory practices provide the ability that allows corroborating the diagnosis of skin and adnexal diseases after a presumptive diagnosis, with the use of the clinical method. This is supported by the requirements established in the standardization documents of this training process. Objective: To propose a system of procedures for the interdisciplinary training of the skill to diagnose dermatological diseases in Dermatology residents, based on insufficiencies detected in the specialty program. Methods: The research was qualitative and consisted in a descriptive study carried out in Hospital General Docente Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola, of Ciego de Avila, from 2018 to 2022. The work was done with the entire population made up of 16 first-year residents in Dermatology. Theoretical, empirical and statistical methods were used. Results: In the proposed system of procedures, strengths and weaknesses are specified, together with general objective, methodological guidelines, precision of specific objectives and system of actions for each procedure, as well as system of control and evaluation of the effectiveness of the actions. All around the globe the population has limited access to dermatologic care, and there are too few dermatologists to accommodate the high demand for skin care. Education of the community and frontline health workers is key to obtaining long-term impact in the skin health of a population. Reaching a community as a whole is challenging for dermatologists coming from distant cities, because cross-cultural obstacles often arise. This article describes some simple and positive ways of addressing the community directly while training health care workers in the recognition of prevalent skin diseases and effective pathways of management of these conditions.

Dermatopathology represents a unique field at the intersection of dermatology and pathology. Although programs are approved by the ACGME, there is neither uniformity in application materials, timetables, and deadlines, nor a centralized application process. Despite the competitive nature of dermatopathology fellowships, no formal studies have thoroughly examined the selection criteria by program directors. Our study fills this gap in the literature and evaluates the impact of selection criteria for dermatopathology fellows. Applicants can now gain insight into the most important and meaningful aspects of their application.

Formative feedback is considered an important tool of formative evaluation, that allows the teacher to provide information to the students about their performance, in order to highlight their strengths, identify weaknesses and plan how to overcome them. The way in which this is carried out is fundamental and has a direct impact on the outcome of the process. We sought to evaluate the perceptions and ideas on the training feedback loop, based on the autobiographical report of a Senior Faculty whose core activities are directed towards the teaching of Medical Residents and Dermatology trainees. The analysis of past experiences in light of knowledge constructed while becoming a Teacher shows the crucial need and interrelationship of teaching and timely feedback. The latter provide much needed tools for Students during their learning process. (AU)

AbstractBackgroundThe mortality rate for melanoma continues to rise and the greatest improvement in melanoma survival is attributable to early detection with skin cancer screening exams. However, physicians feel that limited training in the examination of skin and limited clinical time both serve as barriers to adequately assess high-risk lesions.ObjectiveTo test the use of The Integrated Skin Exam film as an instructional tool to teach the examination of skin in a live classroom setting, outside of the purview of the original formal study.MethodsIdentical cross-sectional surveys were administered pre- and post-film to a class of first-year medical students at the time of viewing The Integrated Skin Exam film. Results were compared to the initial assessment of this film as a teaching tool in a research setting.ResultsOf the maximum 182 possible surveys administered, we collected 148 pre-surveys and 142 post-surveys (81.3% and 78.0% 33 response rates, respectively). After viewing the film, students showed improvement in identification of high-risk demographic 34 groups (79.3% vs 58.9%, p<0.001) and high-risk anatomic sites in both women (91.9% vs 59.6%, p<0.001) and men (92% vs 35 62.1%, p<0.001). Students demonstrated increased confidence in the skin cancer examination (SCE) (52.2% vs 6.9%, p<0.001) and a greater proportion (74.4% vs 48.3%, p<0.001) of students believed less than 3 minutes was required to integrate a skin cancer exam (SCE) into the routine examination.ConclusionsThe Integrated Skin Exam film is a valuable training tool as proven by increased knowledge of, and improved attitudes about the 2 SCE after viewing the film. In addition, there was a striking similarity in outcomes when using this film in a live classroom 3 environment compared to the original study setting.

BACKGROUND: Some research indicates that physicians do not dominate the expected dermatological content for the proper exercise of the profession. This fact compromises their diagnostic and therapeutic performance, generating unnecessary costs. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relevance of Dermatology and the knowledge acquired in the specialty during the undergraduate course in clinical practice of graduates at the State University of Campinas Medical School (FCM/UNICAMP). METHOD: A questionnaire with 22 closed questions and two open ones was electronically sent to physicians who had graduated more than 10 years ago and others for less than 10 years. In the first group, physicians were trained by the same curriculum and in the second group there were subjects trained by the old and the new curriculum. RESULTS: Of the 126 respondents, 83% had completed a specialization course. Among all, 82% did not study dermatology after graduation. The majority considered that Dermatology has high relevance in clinical practice, regardless of the group. There was a statistically significant difference between non-dermatologist doctors graduated for more than 10 years and those graduated for less than 10 years regarding confidence about lesion diagnosis, diagnostic investigation and treatment of skin diseases. Physicians who have graduated for a longer time feel more insecure in relation to patients with dermatoses. Concerning contributions offered by graduation program completion they prioritized outpatient care, ability to diagnose, knowledge of pathology, research and knowledge of lesions. CONCLUSION: This study has shown that Dermatology is relevant in medical practice and more recent graduates from the FCM/UNICAMP feel less insecure when treating a patient with dermatoses.

The information and communication technologies (ICT) have broaden the possibilities of knowledge and information transmission, in which the pupil plays the predominant role, leaving the educator with a second role. The ICT sustain the learning objectives, digital entity, self-sustained and reusable with objectives, constituted by three editable internal components: contents, learning activities and contextualization components. Moreover, the metadata facilitates its identification, storage and localization. Also must be present other characteristics: educability, interoperability accessibility, self-regeneration, flexibility, etc. In this study we put forward the task of characterizing the learning objectives as well as other characteristics of the teaching-learning process in the virtual field. Various reviews were carried out on electronic articles, databases of national and international pedagogical journals. Conclusions: It is important the implement and development of the LO in order for the pupil to develop abilities and strategies at any learning situation, and it´s application in Dermatology is useful(AU)
