Microquimerismo em glândulas salivares labiais de pacientes submetidas a transplante de células tronco hematopoiéticas / Microchimerism in labial salivary glands of hematopoietic stem cell transplanted patients

Objetivo: o Microquimerismo se refere a uma pequena quantidade de células ou DNA de um indivíduo presentes em outro indivíduo. O seu papel nas doenças autoimunes com semelhanças à doença do enxerto contra o hospedeiro tem sido muito estudado. Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar se o microquimerismo do cromossomo-Y está presente em glândulas salivares labiais de mulheres submetidas a transplantes de células tronco hematopoiéticas com doadores do gênero masculino. Metodologia: onze amostras de glândulas salivares labiais de pacientes submetidos a transplante de células tronco hematopoiéticas alogênicos foram obtidas dos arquivos do Laboratório de Patologia Bucal da Faculdade de Odontologia da UFMG. Nenhum dos autores teve conhecimento prévio do graus de cGVHD das mesmas. Destas amostras, cinco eram de transplante entre gêneros feminino-feminino (grupo controle) e cinco entre masculino-feminino (grupo estudo), além de uma do gênero masculino (controle positivo)...

Congenital bilateral lower lip pits associated with fistulae of the minor salivary glands: case report of the principal Van der Woude syndrome's trait.

BACKGROUND: Van der Woude syndrome (VWS; OMIM 119300) is an autosomal dominant developmental malformation presenting with bilateral lower lip pits related to cleft lip, cleft palate, and other malformations in about half the patients. These congenital lip pits appear clinically as a defect in the vermilion border of the lip. They are commonly related to fistulae of minor salivary glands with or without excretion. Usually the cause of cosmetic defects, VWS is preferably treated through simple excision. This report aims to describe a case of VWS involving a patient who presented with isolated congenital bilateral lower lip pits related to fistulae of the minor salivary glands, which were treated successfully through simple excision. CASE REPORT: A 5-year-old girl with a diagnosis of congenital bilateral lip pits associated with fistulae of minor salivary glands was treated successfully through simple excision. The diagnosis was confirmed by clinical examination, sialography, and scintigraphy. A good aesthetic result was observed after 2 years of follow-up evaluation. CONCLUSION: Physicians must be aware of VWS because, although underreported and frequently not diagnosed, it is the most common cleft syndrome.

Anterior lingual mandibular salivary gland defect. Evaluation of twenty-four cases.

Lingual mandibular salivary gland defects in the posterior part of the mandible are not uncommon. Analogous defects in the anterior region, however, are rare, and the four new cases presented in this report bring the total number of reported cases up to 24. The purpose of the present study was to review and analyze the clinical, radiographic, and histologic features of the previously reported cases together with those of the present study. The majority of these defects were located in the cuspid and/or premolar area and were diagnosed in men in their fifth and sixth decades of life. Almost all defects contained normal salivary gland tissue. The differential diagnosis, treatment, and pathogenesis of these defects are discussed.
