[Use of vilozen and ketotifen combination for increasing the effectiveness and prevention of complications of antibiotic therapy of streptococcal infections]. / Primenenie kombinatsii vilozena i ketotifena dlia povysheniia éffektivnosti i profilaktiki oslozhnenii antibiotikoterapii streptokokkovykh infektsii.

The clinical efficacy of a vilozen and ketotifen (zaditen) combination in the treatment of streptococcal infections along with the routine therapy was studied. The use of the combination was shown advisable in the complex therapy and prevention of relapses in patients with streptococcal infections. The combined pharmacotherapy promoted better clinical indices, normalization of the immune status and a reduction in the incidence of allergic reactions to antibiotics and a decrease in sensitization to bacterial allergens.

[Use of selective media with lincomycin for the directed screening of antibiotic producers]. / Ispol'zovanie selektivnykh sred s linkomitsinom dlia napravlennogo poiska produtsentov antibiotikov.

Relation between lincomycin resistance of Micromonospora cultures freshly isolated from soil samples and their capacity for production of antibiotics related to lincomycin by the structure or mode of action was shown. 32 cultures of Micromonospora were isolated from soil platings containing 50--100 microgram/ml of lincomycin. Crude antibiotic substances were recovered with the method of organic solvent extraction from 10 cultures possessing pronounced antibiotic activity. Selective inactivity (MIC more 1000 microgram/ml) of the crude substances with respect to the lincomycin resistant variant of Staph. aureus 209 p was observed, 2 of them having no inhibitory effect on the erythromycin resistant variant of the staphylococcus. The crude antibiotics inhibited the growth of the initial strain of the staphylococcus and its other antibiotic resistant variants in concentrations of 0.5--10 microgram/ml. It was demonstrated with the use of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry that one substance was lincomycin and 4 substances were known macrolides. Efficiency of the simple method of directed screening of antibiotics belonging to definite groups is indicated. Resistance of actinomycetes freshly isolated from natural substrates to various antibiotics is used as the criterion for antibiotic screening. The method provides detection of various antibiotics which are analogs in the structure or mode of action of the selecting antibiotic used for the screening.

[Plasmid-determined streptococcal resistance to antibiotics]. / Izuchenie determinirovannoi plazmidoi rezistentnosti streptokokkov k antibiotikam.

The analysis of the genetic organization of the determinant ERLI by means of obtaining and studying the antibiotic sensitive mutants from the strain resistant to erythromycin and lincomycin provided experiment data in favour of the fact that inducable resistance to erythromycin and lincomycin determined by the plasmid might be defined by the same or closely linked genes.

Interaction between erythromycin and lincomycin in Streptococcus pyogenes.

Ten strains of Streptococcus pyogenes isolated were moderately resistant to erythromycin and highly but paradoxically resistant to lincomycin, and they showed antagonism between the two antibiotics. Another strain was moderately resistant to erythromycin and sensitive to lincomycin, and it showed synergism between the two antibodies.

Neostigmine and 4-aminopyridine antagonism of lincomycin-pancuronium neuromuscular blockade in man.

Seven anesthetized patients were studied to determine the interaction between pancuronium and lincomycin and the ability of neostigmine and 4-aminopyridine to antagonize the block. Lincomycin 600 mg given IV alone did not decrease twitch tension. An 8 to 10% decrease in twitch tension occurred when lincomycin was given after neostigmine antagonism of pancuronium. Lincomycin augmented a partial pancuronium neuromuscular blockade. The combined lincomycin-pancuronium neuromuscular blockade was effectively antagonized by both neostigmine and 4-aminopyridine although the latter produced a slower rate of antagonism. The authros conclude that lincomycin, 600 mg IV, augments a pancuronium neurovascular blockade. 4-Aminopyridine offers no advantage over neostigmine and, in fact, may offer a disadvantage because of a slower rate of antagonism.
