RESUMO

The present study was undertaken to examine experimentally and clinically whether a 100-mm roll-film digitizer and image processing device could preserve or increase the diagnostic accuracy of 100-mm roll films used in the mass screening of patients for lung cancer and provide picture archives of high enough image quality to replace the original films. The quality of the processed digitized CRT image was found to be only slightly less than that of the original films. There was only a slight decrease in diagnostic accuracy, and the system was judged to be potentially useful as a miniature picture archiving and reference system.

RESUMO

Microfilming of X-ray films has become more topical owing to the amendment of the X-ray regulations. The storage of X-rays as reproductions on an image or data carrier is expressly envisaged as a possibility in the text of the regulation. The quality of transfer must be insured and the copies must be legible. In microfilming, the latitude and the resolution capacity of the microfilm and remagnification are appropriate as parameters of image quality. Testing of seven filming systems shows a major range of variation of both parameters; in some cases, the results led to reexamination of the camera adjustment and developer chemistry. A test of constancy of filming analogous to direct radiography appears necessary. A corresponding norm does not exist at present.

RESUMO

This article has been written to assist the records manager who may be faced with the task of determining qualitative standards for microfilm services. While the discussion will cover a wide spectrum of microform products, it is aimed primarily at those who are considering the conversion of source documents to conventional roll film or jackets. It includes an explanation of the impact of poor quality on the use of film in a records management program, and offers suggestions for the establishment of minimum standards for both inhouse and service bureau filming. A sample contract is provided to aid in developing a more specific contract. The article is based on experience gained in the operation of a microfilm service bureau, and is a result of having observed the consequences of microfilm conversion efforts which were entered into without adequate preparation and without a definition of specific standards. Recommended standards are based upon AIIM criteria for source document microfilm and articulated in such a manner as to permit inclusion in a contract proposal or inhouse working policy.

RESUMO

The new Federal German Roentgen Law in operation for the last two years governs not only the proprietary rights in respect of x-ray documentation but also the obligation regarding its accountability. Similar regulations are in preparation in other European countries. Since the discussions on individual problems of maintaining and cataloguing x-ray films and on approaches towards solving the production of duplicates, are common knowledge, there is no need to go into them once again, not lease because of their complex nature. Nevertheless, these problems are touched upon in the present article in the manner of key words in order to illustrate to what extent the Linear System meets the requisite demands.

RESUMO

A general overview of microform usage in libraries is provided, emphasizing the impact of conversion of print materials to microforms on library patrons and library staff members. Diagnostic techniques are analyzed to determine the adaptability of both collections and clientele. Problems concerning the standardization of hardware, selection of the proper microform formats, and the use of silver halide, diazo, or vesicular films are discussed.
