[PC-assisted planning and documentation of the surgical schedule]. / PC-gestützte Planung und Dokumentation des Operationsbetriebes.

A computer program for personal computers was developed to support and control the schedule in the operation theatre. With this program a great amount of operational and medical data will be recorded (e.g. the duration of operation and anesthesia, the number of operating rooms occupied, the personnel involved, the diagnosis and surgical therapy). The screen shows up-to-date information about the ongoing events. All data can be easily evaluated for different criteria. In a four years period the program presented has proved valuable for daily routine planning and documentation in a great operation unit.

Using change dynamics to implement a new software system in the OR.

Even though goals are essential, maintenance of rapport and communication must not be overlooked when the leader focuses on the overall plan. When the leader shows understanding toward those living with the day-to-day challenges of change, the staff and leader are brought together as a team. The effective leader also must learn to distinguish between barriers that must be confronted and those that should be avoided to lessen potential for permanent damage to relationships. Change managed effectively provides opportunities for growth as a team as well as integration of new practices.

A data collection system on microcomputer connected with an automatic medical report system for operations, was developed to facilitate both medical report as well as documentation. Linking different commercial software products by use of a Pascal programme, we were able to speed up daily routine work as well as establish efficient graphical statistics of patient data.
