Conhecimento de mulheres submetidas ao Bypass Gástrico em Y de Roux sobre a Síndrome de Dumping: um estudo transversal descritivo / Knowledge of women submitted to the Gastric Bypass in Y Roux on Dumping Syndrome: a descriptive transversal study

RESUMO

Introdução: A obesidade é uma doença crônica multifatorial que cresce exponencialmente em todo o mundo. A cirurgia bariátrica tem se mostrado eficaz contra obesidade, porém, podem ocorrer algumas complicações decorrentes do processo cirúrgico, destacando-se a síndrome de Dumping. Objetivo: Analisar o conhecimento de mulheres submetidas à cirurgia bariátrica sobre a síndrome de Dumping. Métodos: Estudo transversal descritivo realizado em uma clínica particular especializada em cirurgia da obesidade em Brasília-DF. A amostra foi constituída de 43 mulheres, adultas, submetidas à cirurgia bariátrica. Foi aplicado um questionário padrão para avaliar o conhecimento em relação à síndrome de Dumping. Resultados: Constatou-se que 90% (n=39) das mulheres afirmaram conhecer a síndrome de Dumping, sendo que 58% (n=25) persistiram com os sintomas. Os principais sintomas apresentados foram náuseas em 51% (n=22) e palpitações em 48% (n=21). A conduta mais utilizada referida pelas mulheres para aliviar os sintomas foi deitar-se em 55% (n=24) e sentar-se em 25% (n=11) imediatamente após as manifestações clínicas. Conclusão: A maioria das mulheres referiu possuir conhecimento sobre a síndrome de dumping, mesmo na vigência dos sintomas específicos dessa síndrome.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Obesity is a chronic multifactorial disease that grows exponentially all over the world. Bariatric surgery has proven effective against obesity, however, some complications may occur due to the surgical process, especially Dumping Syndrome. Objective: To analyze the knowledge of women undergoing bariatric surgery on the Dumping syndrome. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at a private clinic specializing in obesity surgery in Brasília-DF. The sample consisted of 43 adult women undergoing bariatric surgery. A standard questionnaire was applied to evaluate the knowledge regarding the Dumping syndrome. Results: It was found that 90% (n = 39) of the women reported knowing about the Dumping syndrome, and 58% (n = 25) persisted with the symptoms. The main symptoms presented were nausea in 51% (n = 22) and palpitations in 48% (n = 21). The most commonly used approach for relieving symptoms was lying down in 55% (n = 24) and sitting in 25% (n = 11) immediately after clinical manifestations. Conclusion: Most of the women reported having knowledge about the dumping syndrome, even in the period of the specific symptoms of this syndrome.
