RESUMEN
Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo describir los hechos más trascendentales que ocurrieron en el siglo XIX con relación al desarrollo de la medicina de Trujillo y el rol del Hospital de Belén en el avance de práctica médica, identificar los facultativos que ejercieron la medicina, las principales epidemias ocurridas y las medidas de salud pública que tomaron ensu presentación. Concluimos que el Hospital de Belén constituyó el centro principal de salud y su administración compleja fue compartida a inicios del siglo XX por el cabildo Secular y Eclesiástico y posteriormente por la sociedad de Beneficiencia Pública. En este trabajo se mencionan algunos médicos que ejercieron la profesion en Trujillo y que iniciaron la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Trujillo. De las principales epidemias ocurridas, este siglo, permitió difundir la vacunación masiva.
ABSTRACT
The main objetive of this investigation were to describe the most important facts that happened in the history of medicine in Trujillo in the XIX century and the contribution of the Belen Hospital in the advance of the medical practice, as well as to identify the main physicians and the main diseases of this time. We conclude that the Belen Hospital represented the major center o the public health in Trujillo and its complex administration was managed in early years by Municipal and Ecclesiastical Councils and afterwards by the Public Beneficence Society. this paper identifies some physicians who worked in our city and some of them participated at he beginning of the Trujillo School of Medicine. The most important epidemic during this century was smallpox that withoud doubt was the main problem of the health during this perid and the Philalantropic Expedition of Balmis - Salvany contributed ti tge nassive diffusion in our region.
