ABSTRACT
The paper aims to study the suicidal behavior of medical students from a Peruviam university. 1115 subjects were surveyed by means of the Brief Mental Health Questionnaire validated in Peruvian population. The lifetime prevalence rate of suicidal ideation was 23% and 4% that of suicidal attempet. Last year prevalence rate of suicidal ideation was 7.3% and 1.2% that of suicidal attempt. Suicidal ideation and attempt were significantly more frequent in female than in male students. Logistic regression analysis showed as predictive variables of suicidal ideation anxiety, suicidal attempt and desire to kill someone; and the ones of suicidal attempt antisocial behavior, suicidal ideation and desire to kill someone. These findings support the hypothesis of a continuum dimension between suicidal ideation and attempt and that aggressive feeling towards others and to oneself are associated to both behaviors.
