Estudio observacional, transversal, descriptivo, correlacional.

ABSTRACT

Introduction:

The measurement of health-related quality of life (HROOL) is an useful tool for assessing the impact of chronic diseases, as diabetes type 1. This disease affects several areas of lifestyle and it could decrease the quality of life of these patients.

Objectives:

To determine the HRQOL in children and adolescents with diabetes type 1.

Design:

A cross-sectional study was performed. Thirty-three individuals from nine to eighteen years old were enrolled, they all were members of the Association de Diabetes en Niños y Adolescentes (ADINA). PedsQL tool was applied following the administration of informed assent and informed consent forms. T Student's test, Wilcoxon rank-sum's test Pearson correlation and Spearman's rho test were used.

Results:

The mean total score of the PedsQL was 82.71±11.10, according to the scale is a "good" HRQOL. Physical Health dimension was considered "good", too. Psychosocial Health dimension was considered "good", but its emotional and scalarsubdimensions were considered "poor", in accordance with the scale. The last control glycosylated hemoglobin was statistically significant with the HRQOL dimension (p=0.021, P<0.05). No other variable showed any statistically significant relation with the studied dimensions.

Conclusions:

HRQOL was considered "good". Emotional and scholar subdimensions were considered "poor". The last control glycosylated hemoglobin had a statistically significant relation with HRQOL dimension.
