Rescate del uso tradicional de plantas medicinales en el patrimonio inmaterial de Baracoa, Cuba / Rescue of the traditional use of medicinal plants in the intangible heritage of Baracoa, Cuba

RESUMEN

Introducción: El uso de las plantas con fines curativos forma parte importante de la cultura de los pueblos. A través de la tradición oral o escrita las diferentes culturas han mantenido la vigencia de su empleo. Para el estado cubano es un desafío la realización de inventarios nacionales del patrimonio cultural inmaterial como es el uso tradicional de plantas medicinales. Objetivo: Identificar el uso tradicional de las plantas medicinales de la comunidad de Quiviján para su preservación e integración dentro del sistema de salud cubano. Método: Entre los años 2015 y 2019 se trabajó con los pobladores del consejo popular de Quiviján, ubicado en el macizo montañoso del oriental municipio de Baracoa. Para realizar el estudio se tomaron en cuenta la historia, costumbres y características de esta zona, así como la exposición de las experiencias y el conocimiento por parte de sus pobladores sobre el uso tradicional de plantas medicinales. Resultados: Se identificaron 123 especies vegetales, relacionadas con el uso tradicional de las plantas medicinales en la región, para el tratamiento de diferentes enfermedades. Esta información permitió la preservación del conocimiento y la apertura hacia la investigación científica en los temas de salud. Conclusiones: El respeto hacia los saberes tradicionales permitió la plena comunicación de dichos conocimientos entre los pobladores de la región y los profesionales de la salud, con lo cual se abre el camino para la realización de futuros trabajos acerca de la cultura y la salud.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The use of plants for healing purposes is an important part of people's culture. Through oral or written tradition, different cultures have maintained the validity of their use. For the Cuban state, it is a challenge to carry out national inventories of intangible cultural heritage such as the traditional use of medicinal plants. Objective: To identify the traditional use of medicinal plants in the community of Quiviján for their preservation and integration within the Cuban health system. Method: Between 2015 and 2019, it was worked with the inhabitants of the popular council of Quiviján, located in the mountainous massif of the eastern municipality of Baracoa. In order to carry out the study, there were taken into account the history, customs and characteristics of this area, as well as the exhibition of the experiences and knowledge on the part of its residents about the traditional use of medicinal plants. Results: 123 vegetable species were identified, related to the traditional use of medicinal plants in the region, for the treatment of different diseases. This information made it possible to preserve knowledge and open up to scientific research on health issues. Conclusions: The respect towards traditional knowledge allowed the full communication of such knowledge between the inhabitants of the region and the health professionals, which opens the way for the realization of future works about culture and health.
