Aproximación a la historia de la Psiquiatría en Camagüey, Cuba / Approach to the history of Psychiatry in Camagüey, Cuba

RESUMEN

RESUMEN Se realizó un estudio historiográfico sobre el desarrollo de la psiquiatría en Cuba con énfasis en la provincia de Camagüey para el cual se utilizaron métodos del nivel teórico, como el histórico-lógico, y análisis de documentos como empírico, además de entrevistas a profundidad al principal protagonista para ahondar en el quehacer provincial de la especialidad, todo llevado a cabo durante el año 2020. La psiquiatría camagüeyana cuenta con indiscutibles resultados y disfruta del prestigio y reconocimiento ganados en el país. Allí se ha formado más de un centenar de especialistas para Cuba y otras partes del mundo, en el primer hospital creado por la Revolución. Entre sus logros resalta haber contado con el primer y mayor hospital de día de psicóticos y la segunda unidad de intervención en crisis de la nación(primera en el interior del país). Fue la provincia fuera de la capital donde se creó el primer centro comunitario de salud mental y también la pionera en completar la red municipal de dichos centros. Encima, la Psiquiatría camagüeyana como especialidad de postgrado fue la primera en el país en someterse al proceso de acreditación de la Educación Superior, donde obtuvo la categoría de Certificada. La novedad del presente artículo estriba en proveer memoria escrita a la historia de la especialidad en Camagüey, de la cual no hay antecedentes publicados.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This paper is a historiographical study about the development of Psychiatry in Cuba with emphasis in the province of Camagüey, by using theoretical level methods such as historic-logic and document analysis as empiric. Depth interviews were used as well, during 2020. Psychiatry in Camagüey has gained acknowledge and prestige all over the county because of its results. More than one hundred specialists have obtained their degree for the country and other places. Its Psychiatric facility was the first hospital created by the Cuban Revolution. This province had the first and biggest day care hospital for psychotic patients and the second crisis intervention unit in the nation (the first outside the capital), the first in which a mental health community center was created (outside the capital) and also the first in concluding the municipal network of these centers. Besides, Camagüey an Psychiatry as post graduate specialty was pioneer in the country to undergo the process of accreditation and got Certificated category. The novelty of this paper consists in create a written memory of the history of the specialty in Camagüey, of which there are no previous publications.
