ABSTRACT
Report of a pilot study of the system of therapy with negative pressure for the prevention of infections in the surgical site in Obstetrics. Infections associated to health care still continue as a severe sanitary problem due to the assistential, economical and social impact that their represent. At present it is estimated that more than 100 millions of persons in the world will suffer yearly at least one of these kind of infections and that more tan 20 millions will die due to this etiology. Infections of the surgical site are responsible of between 15-20 % of the nosocomial infections, by which they constitute a severe health problem. This study represents the first experience with the use of negative pressure therapy following Cesarean section in morbid obese patients in our country. Of the total of the pregnants admitted none presented infections following surgical wound infection after Cesarean section. The aim of the experience was to evaluate prospectively in 10 patients the use of negative pressure wound therapy in patients deemed at high risk for wound infection.
