RESUMEN

La evaluación de los resultados de una investigación es necesaria para determinar su relevancia, sustentar decisiones sobre la promoción de proyectos de investigación y traducir la producción científica en herramientas útiles para el crecimiento de nuestra sociedad. El valor de impacto y las métricas en las publicaciones científicas desempeñan un papel crucial en la evaluación de la investigación médica. En 1972 se crea el factor de impacto, descrito inicialmente por Eugene Garfield1 para evaluar las revistas científicas. Consistía en medir la importancia de una revista según el número de veces que se citan sus artículos, reconociendo a la referencia de otros autores como un método de evaluación de calidad, pues de esta manera se asume la lectura y consideración de su relevancia por el nuevo investigador. Con la aparición de este tipo de métricas aparecen listados de evaluación dedicados a escalafonar y puntuar a las revistas con base en este factor, tales como Scimago Journal & Country Rank y Journal Citation Reports, entre otras tantas

ABSTRACT

The evaluation of research results is necessary to determine their relevance, to support decisions on the promotion of research projects and to translate scientific production into useful tools for the growth of our society. The impact value and metrics in scientific publications play a crucial role in the evaluation of medical research. In 1972, the impact factor, initially described by Eugene Garfield1 , was created to evaluate scientific journals. It consisted of measuring the importance of a journal according to the number of times its articles were cited, recognizing the reference of other authors as a method of quality assessment, since this way the new researcher is assumed to have read and considered its relevance. With the appearance of this type of metrics, evaluation lists dedicated to ranking and scoring journals based on this factor have appeared, such as Scimago Journal & Country Rank and Journal Citation Reports, among others.
