ABSTRACT
The surgical reconstruction of large defects in head and neck helps to lessen the severity of desfiguration and loss of facial expressions and the communication and swallowing problems, and to cope well with the loss of self-steem, anxiety, and tendency to depression and social isolation. The introduction of microvascular surgery allowed the transference of tissues with better and more reliable vascular supply to a radiated, scarred or contaminated wounds. The reliability of the transference of different types of well-vascularized tissues directly where needed, has allowed us to focus on give a better solution to functional and cosmetic deficiencies and lessen donor site morbidity.
