ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to describe the perspectives of the graduating students of Dentistry in relation to the labor market and to compare their expectations according to the researched institutions. This is a cross-sectional study in which 184 university students from three private institutions of Belo Horizonte participated in the year 2013. A structured and self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. A descriptive and comparative statistical analysis was performed using the chisquare test at a significance level of 5%. It was observed that most of the students felt prepared to practice (83.2%), but considered that the lack of experience (66.8%) and insecurity (66.8%) were difficulties to be faced in the early career. The market was considered unfavorable by 46.7%, but did not influence satisfaction with the chosen profession, since 54.9% were very satisfied and would choose the Dentistry course again (84.8%). Most of them want to work in a private practice (60.9%), in the capital city (57.6%) and with a salary claim of 2 to 6 minimum salaries (36.4%). Regarding the desire to work in the Family Health Team, there was a statistically significant difference between the institutions (p <0.05). Students from college A presented greater interest in working in the North or Northeast region when compared to students in colleges B and C (p <0.05). It was concluded that despite the perception of a saturated labor market, most of the participants were satisfied with the chosen profession. Most of the students wanted to be autonomous, in private practice, located in large urban centers, receiving salaries within the standards of reality (AU).
