RESUMO
Discute a inserção laboral e institucional do agente comunitário de saúde no sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). Fundamenta-se em dois pressupostos a) que essa inserção seja efetuada com base em relações formais de trabalho, capazes de assegurar o atendimento a seus direitos sociais de trabalhador; e b) que seja adequada a seu perfil social de trabalhador sui generis, caracterizado pela identificação com a comunidade de onde se origina e o pendor para a ajuda solidária.
