ABSTRACT
The association of glaucoma and retinopathy was studied in 52 patients with type I and type II diabetes mellitus, without retinopathy and with it (non proliferative, proliferative and with macular edema). In the case material the 56 - 65 years old group and masculine sex predominated. The relation cupping-disc with the diabetic retinopathy was of 0,3-0,5, 0,6-0,8 and 0,9-10; in 38,46 percent of the whole group, the retinopathy was proliferative and in 34,6 percent non proliferative. The ocular tension was of 31 mm/Hg in 42,3 percent of the affected ones by proliferative retinopathy, which demonstrated that the vascular changes caused by diabetes mellitus favoured the bad perfusion of nervous fibbers, with the consequent atrophy, greater risk of complications and worsening of the visual prognosis
