RESUMEN
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y prospectivo con el objetivo de describir algunos aspectos que caracterizan a la morbilidad y mortalidad geriátrica en la Unidad Cuidados Intensivos. Para ello, se seleccionaron a 130 pacientes de 65 años o más ingresados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del Hospital Universitario Carlos Manuel de Céspedes de Bayamo, Granma, en el periodo comprendido desde el primero de enero del 2005 hasta el 31 de diciembre del 2005. Se incluyeron como variables de interés a la edad, sexo, servicio de procedencia, causas de ingresos, complicaciones y causas de muerte. Como medidas de resumen del análisis estadístico se emplearon a las frecuencias relativas y absolutas. Se encontró que la mayoría de los pacientes estaban comprendidos en los grupos de edades de 65 a 74 años (80 por ciento) y que pertenecían al sexo masculino (60 por ciento)... (AU)
ABSTRACT
A descriptive and prospective study was carried out with the objective to describe some aspects that characterise geriatric morbidity and mortality in ICU. For that purpose. 130 patients of 65 years and older were admitted in ICH of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Hospital in the period from January 1st 2005 to December 31, 2005.There were included as variables of interest age, sex, origin services, and causes of hospitalization, complications and death causes. As measures of summary of the statistics analysis there were used relatives and absolutes frequencies. It was found that the greatest number of patients was in the group of 65 to 74 years old (80 per cent) and they belonged to male sex (60 per cent)...(AU)
