RESUMEN
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal para caracterizar la Epidemia de Dengue en el hospital Pediátrico Provincial en el período comprendido de Enero Marzo del 2002. Se concluye que se ingresaron en el Hospital 195 casos en toda la Epidemia, con su pico máximo en Febrero. El mayor porciento de los ingresos fueron clasificados como sospechosos, seguidos de los probables. El grupo de edad más afectado fue el de 5 a 14 años. El municipio Tunas fue el de mayor incidencia y dentro de ellos el área de salud del Piti Fajardo fue la que más casos reportó. El 48,7 por ciento de los casos tenían entre 1 y 2 días de evolución de los síntomas al momento del ingreso. Los síntomas predominantes fueron la fiebre en el 100 por ciento de los casos, seguido en orden de frecuencia por cefalea, rash y artralgias. La manifestación hemorrágica más frecuente fueron las petequia. El 72,5 por ciento de las muestras se realizaron al 5to día y el 24,8 por ciento al 6to día de evolución de la enfermedad. ABSTRACT
A descriptive transversal study was made to characterize Epidemic of Dengue at the Provincial Pediatric Hospital. In the period from January to March of 2002. 195 cases were admitted in the hospital during the Epidemic, of all them, after the reevaluation in the ward for this cases, were left 154 patients, The epidemic reach its maximum point in February. The biggest percent of admissions were classified as suspicious followed by the probable.The group of age more affected were the one from 5 to 14 years. The tunas municipality was it one with the higher incidence and within them , the area of health or the Piti Fajardo Policlinic was the one that reported more cases. the 48,7 per cent of the cases had between 1 and 2 days of evolution of the symptoms at the moment of admition. The predominant symptoms were the fever in 100 per cent of the cases, followed in order of frequency by headaches, rash and arthalgias. The hemorrhagic manifestation move frequent was the petequic.
