Comportamiento de la Epidemia de Meningoencefalitis Viral / Behaviour of the viral meningoencephalitis epidemic

RESUMEN

Se realizó estudio descriptivo de la epidemia de meningoencefalitis viral de la Provincia de las Tunas de julio a noviembre del 2001, se analizó el comportamiento según las variables de edad, la relación entre la fecha de inicio de los síntomas, necesidad de tratamiento antiedema cerebral, celularidad del liquido cefalorraquídeo, la estadía hospitalaria, así como la presencia de complicaciones, concluyéndose que la edad más afectada fue la escolar, el mayor porciento de los pacientes ingresó antes de las primeras 24 horas de iniciado los síntomas y no requirieron tratamiento o solo pocas dosis, la estadía hospitalaria fue corta y la evolución favorable, por estudios serológicos se comprobó como etiología el enterovirus (ECHO 30)(AU)

ABSTRACT

A descriptive study of viral encephalomeningitis epidemy in las tunas province was made during the period from july to novenber of 2001. The behavior was analysed according to some variablesas age, the relationship between the date of firt symptoms, tht need of treatment for brain edema, the cerebroespinal fluid cellularity, the hospital stay and the presence of complications. It was concluded that scholar age was the most affected, the highest percent of patientswere admited during the first 24 hours of starting symptoms, and required only few dosis of treatment, the hospital stay was short and they had a favorable evolution. Serological studies showed as ethiological agent the ECHO 30 virus, which is an enterovirus(AU)
