RESUMEN
Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal en los 903 pacientes atendidos en el Servicio de Cirugía Refractiva del Centro Oftalmológico de Holguín durante el periodo enero diciembre de 2008, con el objetivo de conocer el comportamiento clínico epidemiológico de sus defectos refractivos. Se seleccionó una muestra de 736 enfermos. Los defectos refractivos fueron más frecuentes en el sexo femenino, en el grupo de 26 a 30 años. Las enfermedades crónicas no trasmisibles predominantes fueron la migraña, hipertensión arterial y asma bronquial. De las enfermedades oftalmológicas asociadas resultó relevante el pterigión. El síntoma astenópico más frecuente fue la cefalea y el defecto refractivo predominante fue el astigmatismo miópico compuesto(AU)
ABSTRACT
An observational, descriptive and croos- sectional study was carried out in patients assisted at Refractive Surgery Service from January to December, 2008, aimed at knowing the epidemiological- clinical behavior of the refractive defects in these patients. The universe was represented by 903 patients. The sample comprised 736 patients. Female sex was the most affected one as well as the age group between 26 and 30 years. The chronic nontransmissible diseases such as migraine, high blood pressure and bronchial asthma were the predominant ones. Pterigium was the most frequently ophthalmological illness associated. Headache was the most frequent asthenopic symptom . The compound myopic astigmatism was the most frequent refractive defect found(AU)
