Eficacia de la ozonoterapia en la degeneración macular seca asociada a la edad / Effectiveness of the ozone therapy in dry macular degeneration associated with the age

RESUMEN

Introducción: El origen de la degeneración macular seca asociada a la edad, es aún incierto. Objetivo: Determinar la eficacia de la ozonoterapia en pacientes con esta alteración. Métodos: Se realizó una intervención terapéutica en afectados por ese proceso patológico, atendidos en la consulta de retina del Centro Oftalmológico del Hospital General Docente Dr Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso de Santiago de Cuba, desde enero de 2008 hasta igual mes de 2009. Los integrantes de la casuística fueron asignados a uno de 2 grupos los tratados con ozono y los que recibieron comprimidos de nutriforte. Resultados: Predominaron el sexo femenino y la edad promedio de 65 años. En el primer grupo, la agudeza visual de 0,51 pasó a ser de 0,63 después del tratamiento; y en el segundo, de 0,47 a 0,5, con mejoría de la sensibilidad retinal en ambos casos. Conclusiones: El procedimiento ozonoterápico fue eficaz para tratar a personas con daño degenerativo de la mácula(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The origin of the dry macular degeneration associated with the age is still uncertain. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the ozone therapy in patients with this condition. Methods: A therapeutic intervention was carried out in those affected by that disease, attended in the Retina Department of the Ophthalmology Center of Dr Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from January 2008 to January 2009. Cases were divided into two groups those treated with ozone and those that received Nutriforte tablets. Results: The female sex and mean age of 65 years prevailed. In the first group the visual acuity of 0,51 became 0,63 after treatment, and in the second group it was 0,47 to 0,5 with improved retinal sensibility in both cases. Conclusions: Ozone therapy was effective to treat people with macular degeneration(AU)
