ABSTRACT
Se analizan los componentes principales de la autonomía como medida de salud en el anciano salud mental, salud física, aspectos sociales, aspectos económicos y actividades del diario vivir. Estas últimas constituyen el área de funcionamiento personal más importante. Se examinan las distintas maneras de evaluar cada área, con las ventajas de cada unay desventajas de cada una. Se concluye que el estudio de la autonomía debe realizarse por medio de la evaluación multidimensional en los adultos mayores (AU)
