ABSTRACT
Non- melanoma skin cancer has increased in the last years in Las Tunas. This increase has motivated the carrying out of a study with the objective of determining the environmental risk factors that have produced it. The clinic- epidemiological, observational, and case and control analytical investigation took place during the period from 2006 to 2008. The group of sick people was formed by 100 patients clinic and histopathologically diagnosed with the disease. The control group was constituted by 200 people who were not sick and were also selected at random. The variables studied were exposure to the sun, high temperatures, carcinogenic chemical substances and radiation. All the information was statistically analyzed through the odds ratio with the level of confidence, chi- square and probability tests respectively. The results were exposed in 2 X 2 contingency charts that allowed determining that exposure to the sun represented the main risk factor related with the appearance of this kind of cancer (AU)
