RESUMEN

Introducción:

el pie diabético es la complicación vascular más grave que se presenta en los pacientes con diabetes mellitus. Es causa importante de morbi-mortalidad en este grupo de población, ya que se estima que el 15 % de estos desarrollarán una lesión en sus pies a lo largo de su vida, lo que puede traer consigo la pérdida de una o ambas extremidades inferiores y consigo el detrimento de la autoestima y la calidad de vida, además de poseer elevados costos económicos para la sociedad y la familia.

Objetivo:

evaluar el estado actual del diagnóstico y tratamiento del pie diabético.Desarrollo se hace un balance sobre diferentes aspectos de la enfermedad y una panorámica sobre el estado actual de su diagnóstico y tratamiento, basada en una amplia revisión de la literatura nacional e internacional.

Conclusiones:

el diagnóstico y tratamiento del pie diabético requiere del esfuerzo de médicos y paramédicos vinculados en la atención directa de los pacientes diabéticos que lo padecen, con la finalidad de minimizar la repercusión psicosocial y mejorar su calidad de vida(AU)
ABSTRACT

Introduction:

diabetic foot is the most serious vascular complication present in diabetes mellitus patients. It is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in this population group since it is estimated that 15% of them will develop a lesion in their feet in the course of time, leading to the loss of one or both lower extremities and deterioration of the self-esteem and the quality of life as well as high economic costs for the society and the family.

Objective:

to assess the current status of diagnosis and treatment of diabetic foot.

Results:

an analysis of different features of the disease and a global overview on the current status of its diagnosis and treatment was made, on the basis of broad review of the national and the international literature.

Conclusions:

the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic foot requires the effort of the physicians and paramedical staff linked to direct care of diabetic patients suffering this condition to minimize the psychosocial impact and to improve the quality of life(AU)
