El mÚdico del asalto al cuartel Moncada

RESUMEN

El golpe militar del 10 de marzo de 1952 instaur¾ en Cuba una tiranÝa militar. Convencidos de su carßcter anticonstitucional, hombres honestos decidieron combatir con las armas al tirano, para esto se gest¾ un movimiento dirigido por el joven abogado Fidel Castro Ruz, que organiz¾ la lucha armada. El grupo de revolucionarios realiz¾ el ataque al cuartel Moncada en Santiago de Cuba. Las experiencias de la heroica acci¾n, en particular su aseguramiento mÚdico, motivaron a redactar el presente artÝculo. El aseguramiento mÚdico a la acci¾n armada se le asign¾ al doctor Mario Mu±oz Monroy, que lo realiz¾ con marcado carßcter profesional y humanitario, como qued¾ testimoniado por el lÝder de la acci¾n en La historia me absolverß. El ejemplo del mÚdico del Moncada, lo convierten en paradigma para las nuevas generaciones de profesionales de las instituciones de salud, en especial, para los mÚdicos militares cubanos.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The military coup of 10 March 1952 brought to power a tyrannical military government in Cuba. Aware of the unconstitutional nature of this government, a group of honest men decided to take up arms and fight the tyrant. To organize armed struggle, a movement was created under the leadership of young lawyer Fidel Castro Ruz. This group of revolutionaries conducted the attack on Moncada Garrison in Santiago de Cuba. The experiences from the heroic action, particularly its medical assurance, motivated the writing of the present article. Medical support to the armed action was entrusted to Doctor Mario Mu±oz Monroy, who carried out the task in a highly professional and humanitarian manner, as was stated by the action leader in History will absolve me. The example set by the doctor in the attack on Moncada turns him into a paradigm for the new generations of health care professionals, particularly for Cuban military physicians.(AU)
