Valores normativos para el Test Mini Mental (Mini Mental State Examination) en adultos mayores cubanos / Normative data of Mini Mental State Examination Test for Older Cuban Adults

RESUMEN

Fundamento y objetivo: El Mini-Mental State Examination, propuesto por Folstein et al en 1975, es una prueba de screening ampliamente utilizada a nivel internacional y en el país, si bien carece de valores normativos para nuestro contexto. En este trabajo presentamos, por vez primera, la adaptación del test, sus valores normativos, así como el efecto de la edad y la escolaridad en su ejecución y la capacidad discriminativa del instrumento en ancianos normales y con demencias. Material y métodos: Se presenta un estudio correlacional, transversal en una muestra probabilística de 101 adultos mayores supuestamente normales (según criterios de inclusión) provenientes de dos áreas urbana y semiurbana de la Ciudad de la Habana , los que fueron remitidos por los Equipos Multidisciplinarios de Atención Gerontológica (EMAG), así como diagnosticados de demencia por la Clínica de la Memoria del CITED. Resultados y conclusiones: Se realizó la adaptación del instrumento a nuestro contexto, se comprobó el efecto de las variables edad y escolaridad en su ejecución, determinándose los valores normativos según esas variables en adultos mayores, así como se demostró la capacidad del test para discriminar entre adultos mayores normales y dementes(AU)

ABSTRACT

Base and objective: The Mini-mental State Examination, proposed by Folstein et al in 1975, is a screening test broadly used at international level and in the country, although it lacks normative values for our context. In this work we present, for first time, the adaptation of the test, their normative values, as well as the effect of the age and level education in their execution and the discriminative capacity of the instrument in normal old adults and with dementia. Material and methods: It is presented a correlational study, traverse in a probability sample of 101 old adults (according to inclusion approaches) coming from two areas urban y semiurban of Havana City, those that were remitted by the Multidisciplinary Teams of Gerontological Attention (EMAG), as well as diagnosed with dementia for the CITED´s Clinic of Memory. Results and conclusions: It was carried out the adaptation from the instrument to our context. It was proven the effect of the variable age and the education level in their execution, being determined the normative values according to those variables in old adults, as well as the capacity of the test was demonstrated to discriminate between normal older adults and with dementia one(AU)
