RESUMEN
Introducción:
La literatura refleja un bajo índice de procesos malignos en los enfermos mentales al compararlo con la población general.Objetivo:
Determinar la prevalencia del cáncer en un grupo de pacientes psiquiátricos.Material yMétodos:
Se realizó el análisis de 3836 autopsias realizadas durante 1970 al 2010 y de 4537 biopsias contenidas entre 1981 al 2010. Los pacientes se agruparon según edad, sexo, localización, variedad de cáncer y su rol en la causa de la muerte. Se realizó un análisis estadístico de frecuencia, cuyos resultados se expresaron en diferentes tablas. Se utilizó la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades y Problemas relacionado con la Salud (CIE-10)Resultados:
Hubo 314 fallecidos con cáncer y en 230 de ellos, la enfermedad maligna constituyó la causa de la muerte, siendo el tumor maligno del pulmón, el más frecuente. (19,74 por ciento). Predominó el sexo masculino (320 pacientes) y el grupo de edad para ambos sexos en conjunto fue entre 55 y 64 años (27,08 por ciento). Se diagnosticaron 262 tumores malignos por biopsias, siendo el de piel el más frecuente (56,1 por ciento).Conclusiones:
Existe una baja prevalencia de cáncer en el paciente psiquiátrico. (8,18 por ciento) en el estudio necropsico, siendo el. adenocarcinoma del pulmón la variedad más frecuente en nuestra serie de autopsia, seguido por neoplasias intraprostáticas (NIP) y la tiroides. En las biopsias, son el Carcinoma Basocelular de la piel, seguido del carcinoma mamario, y los localizados en labio, cavidad bucal y cuello uterino(AU)ABSTRACT

To determine the prevalence of cancer in a group of psychiatric patients. Material andMethods:
An analysis was carried out on 3836 autopsies done during 1970 -2010 and from 4537 content biopsies in the period from 1981 to 2010.Patients were classified according to age, sex, location, type of cancer and its role in the cause of death. A statistical analysis of frequency was done and its results show different figures. It was used The International Classification of Diseases and Problems Related to Health (CIE-10).Results:
There were 314 deceased due to cancer and being the malignant lung tumor the most frequently (19,74 percent). There was prevalence in the masculine sex (320 patients) and the age of the group for both sexes was between 55 and 64 years (27, 08 percent). By means of performing biopsies were diagnosed 262 malignant tumors and being the one related to the skin the most frequent (56, 1 percent).Conclusion:
There is a low prevalence of cancer in the psychiatric patient, (8, 18 percent) in the necropsy study and being the lung adenocarcinoma the most frequent type in our series of autopsies follow by intraprostatic neoplasia (NIP) and the thyroids, meanwhile in the biopsies performed are the Skin Basocellular Carcinoma follows by the Mammary Carcinoma, and the ones located on lips, buccal cavity and cervix(AU)
