ABSTRACT
A clinical trial phase III was carried out on the use of tincture of Calendula officinalls to 20% as cholagogue in biliary drainage in patients who came with the indication to perform such test to the Department of Gastroenterology of the University Hospital "Celia Sánchez Manduley" in the period from November 2001 to May 2002, regardless the specialist who referred it, in order to evaluate its effectiveness as a cholagogue. We selected the first 100 patients who fulfilled the criteria of inclusion and exclusion, and there were assigned two groups; the control one received the magnesium sulfate to 33 percent (20 ml) and another study which received tincture of Calendula to 20 percent (5 ml) through the tube drainage. The results were subjected to statistical analysis such as homogeneity tests to determine possible differences in the composition of the sample in terms of age and sex, tests of proportions and comparison of means, all with a significance level of 5 percent. The analysis of the results evidenced that 90 percent of the patients in the study group had a satisfactory drainage and the amount of each type of drained bile was within the normal values(EU)
