RESUMEN

La conservación de la memoria histórica de los pueblos fortalece la identidad nacional y permite depositar en las nuevas generaciones el acervo cultural, científico y social que durante años ha caracterizado el desarrollo de las civilizaciones. En ocasión de cumplirse cinco siglos de la fundación de Sancti Spiritus, la cuarta villa erigida por los colonizadores españoles en Cuba, se presenta una síntesis de la presencia de la medicina en la historia de la villa con el objetivo de propiciar el necesario acercamiento a este legado patrimonial. Desde el punto de vista metodológico esta reseña se fundamenta en los criterios de la investigación histórica(AU)

ABSTRACT

The conservation of the historical memory of the peoples strengthens national identity and allows to set down the cultural, scientific and social heritage that for years has characterized the development of civilizations in the new generations. On the occasion of the five centuries of the founding of Sancti Spíritus, the fourth village erected by the Spanish colonists in Cuba, a synthesis of the presence of the medicine in the history of the town is presented with the aim of creating the necessary approach to this patrimonial legacy. From the methodological point of view this review is based on the criteria of historical research(AU)
