RESUMEN

Introducción: La perforación timpánica no es más que una solución de continuidad de la membrana debido a una necrosis más o menos circunscrita que afecta sus tres capas. Internacionalmente se han empleado diversos materiales para el cierre y reconstrucción de la membrana timpánica, pero el cartílago es el material que más fiabilidad ha presentado para evitar las reperforaciones.Objetivo: Evaluar el uso de cartílago auricular en la timpanoplastia tipo I para el tratamiento de la otitis media crónica simple, en pacientes del Hospital Provincial docente Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola .Método: Se realizó un estudio preexperimental, en el período comprendido entre noviembre de 2010 hasta noviembre 2012. Se trabajó con un total de 42 pacientes, se consignó edad, sexo, tipo de perforación, tratamiento regional quirúrgico previo, resultado anatómico, resultado auditivo y complicaciones postoperatorias. Resultados: El grupo de edad más representativo fue de 25-46 años, no hubo diferencias según género. El éxito anatómico alcanzó el 95.2 por ciento y la mejoría auditiva fue estadísticamente significativa en los 42 pacientes. Se manifestaron complicaciones en 17 pacientes para un 40.5 por ciento. Con complicaciones post-operatorias mínimas traumatismo del conducto auditivo externo. ABSTRACT

Introduction: The perforated eardrum is a solution of continuity of the membrane due to a circumscribed necrosis involving its three layers. Different materials for the closure and reconstruction of the tympanic membrane have been internationally used, but the cartilage is the material more reliability presented to avoid another perforation.Objective: To evaluate the use of auricular cartilage in tympanoplasty type I in the treatment of simple media chronic otitis in patients from Provincial Teaching Hospital "Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola".Method: A pre-experimental study was carried out from November 2010 to November 2012.
