RESUMEN
Introducción:
el Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida (SIDA) es una enfermedad infecciosa que ha evolucionado de forma epidémica lo que ha provocado muchas muertes en el mundo, pues en pocos años ha alcanzado una distribución universal.Objetivo:
identificar las características clínicas y epidemiológicas de la infección por VIH/SIDA.Método:
se realizó un estudio observacional tipo series de casos para describir las características clínicas y epidemiológicas de la infección por VIH en el municipio Yara en el período de 19862014.Resultados:
se constató que la infección por VIH/Sida en el municipio Yara, afecta predominantemente los asentamientos urbanos, a personas adultas jóvenes y del sexo masculino, cuyo nivel educacional medio, es un factor relacionado con la ocupación, que repercute en la conducta social, predominio de pacientes seropositivos que se identifican con la orientación heterosexual.Conclusiones:
se evidenció la efectividad de la vigilancia epidemiológica en la atención primaria de salud, en la identificación oportuna de casos de VIH/Sida, lo cual constituye una fortaleza del sector en el municipio(AU)ABSTRACT

acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an infectious disease that has evolved as an epidemic, provoking several deaths in the world, because in a few years it has reached a universal distribution.Objective:
to identify the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of HIV / AIDS infection.Method:
it was performed a case series type- observational study in order to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of HIV infection in Yara municipality in the period of 1986-2014.Results:
in Yara municipality it was confirmed that HIV / AIDS mainly affects urban settlements, young adults and males, whose average educational level is a factor related to the occupation, which affects the social behavior, prevalence of HIV-positive patients identified with the heterosexual orientation.Conclusions:
it was evidenced the effectiveness of epidemiological surveillance in primary health care in the timely identification of HIV / AIDS, which is a strength of the sector in the municipality(EU)
