Longitud normal del cuerpo mandibular y la posible erupción de terceros molares inferiores / Normal length of the mandibular body and the possible eruption of third molars

RESUMEN

Se realizó un estudio de investigación descriptivo transversal en la Clínica Estomatológica Universitaria Manuel de Jesús Cedeño de Bayamo, en el periodo comprendido desde Octubre del 2008 hasta Mayo del 2009, con el objetivo de relacionar la longitud normal del cuerpo mandibular y la posible erupción de terceros molares inferiores. El universo estuvo conformado por 168 pacientes en edades comprendidas entre 10 y 13 años, que recibían atención en el servicio de Ortodoncia. La información se recogió en un modelo diseñado para este fin, donde se plasmaron variables de interés. Se determinó el espacio disponible según distancia Xi (Punto centroide mandibular) a Segundo Molar Inferior, para la ubicación de terceros molares inferiores, así como la relación de estos con la longitud del cuerpo mandibular (medición lineal desde XI a Suprapogonion). Los resultados fueron procesados, analizados y expuestos en tablas, resumidos en porcientos. Los principales resultados indicaron el 91,07 por ciento del total de los estudiados con la longitud normal del cuerpo mandibular, de ellos el 100 por ciento a la edad de 11 años y sin diferencias significativas en cuanto a sexo. Predominaron los terceros molares inferiores retenidos (92,86 por ciento), condición que prevalece en los pacientes de 10 años de edad (90,63 por ciento) y en el sexo masculino (80,77 por ciento)(AU)

ABSTRACT

It was performed a descriptive and transversal research at the University Dental Clinic Manuel de Jesus Cedeño in Bayamo during the period of October 2008 to May 2009, with the aim of relating the normal length of the mandibular body and the possible eruption of third molars. The universe consisted of 168 patients between 10 and 13 years old, who were assisted at the Orthodontics Service. The information was collected on a model designed for this purpose, with variables of interest. It was determined the space available according to Xi distance (mandibular centroid point) to Lower Second Molar, for the location of third molars, and the relationship of them according to the length of the mandibular body (linear measurement from XI to Suprapogonion). The results were processed, analyzed and presented in tables, and summarized in percents. The main results indicated the 91.07 percent from those studied with the normal length of the mandibular body, 100 percent of them at the age of 11 years and no significant differences in sex. The third lower molars prevailed (92.86 percent), and this condition predominated in 10 year- old- patients (90.63 percent) and males (80.77 percent)(EU)
