ABSTRACT
The spread of ose of Curcuma longa L., belonging to the Zingiberaceae family, in manylocalities of the municipality of Santiago de Cuba, comes from the French colonies, although itis unknown, in general, for our population, despite the fact that it is massively used as a foodcolorant and as a supplement or herbal for its benefits in the prevention of various degenerativediseases, premature aging and cancer. For these reasons, one chemotaxonomic characterizationof rhizome powder is performed using thin layer chromatographic methods and some referencesolutions, in order to identify some secondary metabolites present therein and corroborate thevariety in question. At the same time, it contributes to the study of this valuable plant, whichfavors their employment with the undoubted benefits that this brings for the health of ourpeople(AU)
