RESUMEN
Las hormonas sexuales femeninas además de desempeñar un rol importante en la endocrinología reproductiva, regulan diversas funciones tisulares. En presencia de placa bacteriana (biofilm) asociada a cambios inflamatorios, estas hormonas influyen en el inicio y progreso de la enfermedad periodontal. En el presente estudio se exponen los aspectos morfofuncionales y fisiopatológicos actuales relacionados con dicha temática, con el fin de incrementar el nivel de conocimientos de los estomatólogos y de esta forma mejorar la calidad de la atención que se brinda a los pacientes(AU)
ABSTRACT
Female sexual hormones besides playing an important role in the reproductive endocrinology, regulate diverse tissue functions. In presence of dental plaque (biofilm) associated to inflammatory changes, these hormones influence in the beginning and progress of periodontal disease. In this study the current morphofunctional and pathophysiological aspects related to that thematic are exposed, with the purpose of increasing the knowledge level of dentists and in this way improving the quality of care offered to patients(AU)
