Características maternas asociadas al abandono de la lactancia materna exclusiva / Maternal characteristics associated with abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding

RESUMEN

Introducción: la lactancia materna exclusiva es la única que proporciona óptima nutrición al infante hasta los seis meses de edad, pero un tercio de las madres no la brindan. Objetivo: determinar las características y creencias maternas asociadas al abandono de la lactancia materna exclusiva en madres que acuden al Servicio de Crecimiento y Desarrollo del Hospital Félix Torrealva Gutiérrez - EsSalud del departamento de Ica. Métodos: estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal en 160 madres que culminaron el parto y acudieron al servicio de Crecimiento y Desarrollo del Hospital Félix Torrealva Gutiérrez - EsSalud con sus hijos de uno a seis meses de edad. Resultados: el abandono de la lactancia materna exclusiva se observó en 61 (38,13 por ciento) madres. Fue más frecuente en madres de 30 a 49 años de edad (36; 46,75 por ciento; p=0,030), con ingreso económico familiar >S/.1000 (39; 32,56 por ciento; p=0,000), solteras (2; 100,00 por ciento; p=0,281), con instrucción superior completa o incompleta (49; 42,98 por ciento; p=0,046), trabajadoras (43; 70,49 por ciento; p=0,000), con vivienda de material noble (59; 49,58 por ciento; p=0,000), de la Costa (59; 50,43 por ciento; 0,000) y con parto abdominal (15; 45,45 por ciento; 0,331). Las creencias maternas Si tomo bebidas heladas no puedo dar de lactar a mi bebé y Si como menestras es motivo para no dar de lactar a mi bebé, así como la discrepancia con la afirmación La lactancia materna exclusiva es suficiente para satisfacer el hambre de mi bebé , se asociaron al abandono de la LME (p<0,05). Conclusiones: las características y creencias maternas se asocian al abandono de la lactancia materna exclusiva, especialmente en mujeres con mejor ingreso económico(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is the only one that can give optimal nutrition for the infant up to six months of age, but a third of the mothers do not provide it. Objective: To determine the maternal characteristics and beliefs associated with the abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding among mothers attending the Growth and Development Service of the Hospital Félix Torrealva Gutiérrez - EsSalud from the department of Ica. Methods: observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study carried out in 160 mothers who completed the delivery and were attended at the Félix Torrealva Gutiérrez Hospital Growth and Development Service - EsSalud with their infants from one to six months of age. Results: The abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding was observed in 61 (38.13 percent) mothers.
