Español frente a inglés como idioma de publicación y factor de impacto de NEUROLOGÍA / Spanish versus English as a language of publication and impact factor of NEUROLOGÍA

RESUMEN

A pesar de que actualmente el inglés está considerado como el idioma vehicular de las publicaciones médicas en el ámbito internacional, algunas revistas españolas de prestigio con factor de impacto en el Journal Citation Reports, como NEUROLOGÍA, apuestan por la publicación en español. En el caso de NEUROLOGÍA, esta decisión responde a su carácter de publicación oficial de la Sociedad Española de Neurología y a la firme convicción de que se puede disponer de una revista de calidad e impacto publicándola en español, al tiempo que su presencia en las bases de datos internacionales más importantes y la posibilidad de acceder libremente a sus contenidos en Internet garantizan su difusión adecuada en todo el mundo. Desde el punto de vista de la citación, la repercusión que tiene el idioma para NEUROLOGÍA viene reflejada por el hecho de que el 46,8% de las citas que recibe proceden de revistas publicadas en español. El principal factor que puede mejorar el impacto de la revista es la necesaria calidad de sus manuscritos, sin olvidar otros como el cumplimiento de las normas internacionales sobre publicaciones periódicas, la puntualidad en su edición y distribución, la presencia en bases de datos bibliográficas nacionales e internacionales, su difusión gratuita en Internet, la formación continuada de investigadores y su sensibilización hacia la consulta y citación de artículos publicados en revistas españolas de calidad, cuando sea pertinente

ABSTRACT

Although the English language is considered nowadays as the international language of medical publications, some important Spanish journals with impact factor in the Journal Citation Reports as NEUROLOGÍA, they bet for the publication in Spanish. NEUROLOGÍA is the official publication of the Sociedad Española de Neurología and there is the conviction that you can have a Spanish language journal with a high quality and a strong impact. Its presence in the most important international data bases and the possibility of free access to its contents through Internet guarantees its proper diffusion around the world. From the point of view of citation, the repercussion of the language for NEUROLOGÍA, is reflected in the fact that the 46,8 % of the citations that receive are from journals that are published in Spanish. The main factor to improve the impact of the journal is the quality of their papers, as well as the fulfilment of the international rules about periodical publications, the punctuality in its edition and distribution, the presence in national and international bibliographical data bases, its free diffusion in Internet, the training of its researchers and their sensitivity to consult and cite articles that have been published in quality Spanish journals, when necessary
